The nose is a mix of fruity sweetness and savoury complexity. The palate is just as interesting with notes of cranberries on the attack, transitioning to dark cherries then cedar and just a touch of black pudding. The finish is an elegant balance of light acidity and and medium tannins. Beautiful and ready to drink now.

Red fruits and licorice on the nose. The palate is simple but elegant. Not the most complex bottle, but it has a nice tannic structure balanced by moderate acidity, making it a great wine to pair with food.

It feels like such a privilege to drink wine from Priorat. Even the wines at more affordable prices bring so much quality and distinctiveness, and this excellent, high-value ($26 in Ontario) example from Álvaro Palacios, one of Spain's most famous winemakers, a man who helped put Priorat on the map, is no exception. A blend of mostly Garnacha and Cariñena, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah as well, it has the famous freshness, the famous acidity, and the famous minerality derived from the famous llicorella terroir, along with characteristic ripe fruit notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and raspberry backed by savoury notes of earth and spice. It's truly the minerality that stands out, though, and it adds a great deal of complexity in and of itself with graphite, slate, and crushed rock elements. It also has well-integrated tannins, but the acidity, lively bordering on aggressive, needs more time to calm down, and that time would likely push this up a notch or two. Even at this point, though, it's a fantastic entry point into a fantastic, if often inaccessible, region.

Belle allonge (~20 sec)! Coup de coeur!

It's a nice wine and I like it but it's not a overly complex wine nor a great wine. For the price it's a good value wine. Fairly dark, some mouthfilling texture but fairly short finish. It's drinking well but not sure it will last much longer. 86 points

Really dark appearance for a Grenache based wine. I don't know the make up of this blend, but would wager it has a large percentage of another/other varieties. Black and red berry profile, both nose and palate. Some cocoa powder flavours also backed by some medium plus acids. Not much tannin grip, and generally fruit forward. Really an enjoyable romp in the glass. Not a wine for serious reflection; rather to bang down with your favourite comfort food. Worked a treat with my home made Lasagne.

Super fun to drink. This has got to be nearly 100% Garnacha, and shows a lot more character than the CdP that disappointed us on Thanksgiving. The nose is attractive and bright, and the palette shows lots of interaction between bright and dark, smooth mouthfeel and zippy acid.

Medium to full body, inky purple red, highly aromatic, forest red berries, vanilla, spices, tobacco and black pepper aroma, ripe blueberry, raspberry tones, spicy and peppery on the palate, peppery red fruits and mineral on finish, extra-long finish, powerful but elegant, bold, velvety structure, saturated, expressive, still fresh and juicy, still refreshing acidity, complex and balanced, completely integrated tannins, food friendly. Best match to meat but also well associated with grilled vegetables or Mushroom Ravioli. Open at least hour in advance. Serve 18º - 22º. Matured, drink now and next two/three years.

Very interesting, cherry cough drops was the first impression that hit me, but this was delicious and seemingly much higher in alc. than the label would suggest at 14.5, quite tasty however - Dark, full bodied with a nose of extreme cherry, plum, spice, cough drop and vanilla, decent balance, but the alc. is prevalent, interesting, sweet, smooth on the palate with excellent length, tasty! This started out incredibly vibrant, but calmed down after about 30 minutes in the glass. Aromas were very juicy at first, but now a bit subdued, offering charcoal, graphite, some dark raspberries, and a calm, confident intensity and balance. Nice vibrancy on the palate, which enters with good acidity and big beautiful blueberries, tobacco, granite and graphite. Sweet flavors with good intensity of acid and tannin. Sweet tannins on the finish though they do dry the mouth out. Really great balance and depth. A homerun QPR that drinks great today but will continue to be better over 10 years.

Dinner with Lionel and Rachel (Pine Close): Pleasant. Much too young, but it helped that the bottle had been opened for a couple of days before we tried it. I lilked the nose, really perfumy stuff, with violet flowers and fragrant garrigue notes hovering around of core of sweet blackberries and some hot slate stones. A far cry from the tighter, more monollithic black-fruited bouquet from two days before. The palate was still more backward though, showing a rather one-dimensional, but very pure expression of sweet blackberries and cassis. This was certainly very ripe; I would almost have called it candied if not for the lovely juicy acidity and underlying sense of hot, stony minerality that pulled the wine into a more controlled finish. Overall, quite a nice wine though, and given the sense of firm structure that underlies it, I think it will get better given 4-5 more years in the cellar as well.

Bright purple color with a ruby rim; Spices on the nose; Red/dark fruit flavors along with a bit of floral; long, spicy finish with a touch of minerals. Balanced but not overly complex at this point. However I would buy this again as it has some potential to improve. A good buy under $20.

Dark violet color with an unctuous nose of dark cherry skin and stem. Has a harmonious balance and bright acidity. The palate is aggressive with a grainy texture that grips the mouth with flavors of blackberry, sandalwood, pencil shavings, bitter chocolate, anise and a hint of clove. This has a meaty, clasping character that finishes with notes of leafy stem and minerals. Truly extraordinary with a personality of its own. Rugged, untamed in its youth, yet does have the potential to blossom into a soft, velvety spectacle, just like the previous vintages. For now, I'm rating this a point lower than the 2009. Drink now for its unbridled youth or wait until 2015 until 2020 to experience its full potential.

Nice lighter style Priorat. Newest vintage just out on shelves @ 23$ CAN. Have liked prior vintages. Needs a little decant time, but offers light floral/rose kissed fruit. Softer and not overly more complex. I commented on the oak quality on prior vintage, but do not get any hint of that this go around. Will do well in bottle for next 2-5 yrs.

Visual: Color rojo picota con ribete violáceo. Capa media. Lágrima densa que tiñe ligeramente la copa. Limpio y brillante.

Intensidad media.
Boca:
