Hmmmmm.....$19 and released as a 14yr old! Let that sink in. Classically structured in the best possible way. Wonderfully poised tannin and dry red fruits. If you'd told me classified BDX I would have agreed (albeit modest 5th). Love it.

Really really impressive. Balanced, smooth but still serious. Dark berry fruits with just a hint of bitterness before a blackberry finish. Tannins present but nicely positioned in the background with soft fur. Has 3 to 5 years ahead of it. Remains my favourite Australian winery.

Medium-dark ruby with some garnet, pale rim, some initial slight browning signs of development. Lovely bouquet of liquor cherries, musk, just-ripe blackberry and cassis, slight spice. Palate consistent, lovely fruit-driven characters, still juicy but with initial secondary savoury characters proving complexity, fine tannins proving slight pleasant grip. Medium finish, medium alcohol (turns out to be 13.5%). Delicious, perfect drinking now and for next few years. 94/100.

Colour: dark cherry red, hint of brick Nose: lots of dark fruit -- black cherry, plum, cassis. Blackberry jam. Liquorice, tar, aniseed? Juniper berries? V.slight hint of nightshade leaf. Earthy. Palate: plum, blackberry, cassis, perhaps plum. Juniper berry? Liquorice, touch of medicinal character, tar. old French oak. Classic Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium bodied, smooth, fine grained drying tannins, berry-like acidity. Really lovely, complex, long on the palate. Still seems quite young! 13,5% alcohol.

Appearances : medium ruby, with legs and petillance.
Medium+ intensity of nose, medium alcohol, medium body and medium intensity, but with medium and fine tannin, aroma of black fruit, black plum, black cherry, liquorice, clove, oak of vanilla.
On palate , all nose flavour on palate, with savoury and bitterness.
It is a good wine but not too complex, better to drink now and do not expect too much development in the coming years.

Dan Murphy cellar release - not sure of the cost (got it for Christmas so can't be too pricey). Good wine, easy to drink, full bodied but soft and smooth. Nothing fancy, but exactly the sort of good quality you expect from Tahbilk.

Sits very deep, ruby in the glass, to reveal blackcurrant, mushroom, and slight menthol notes. The body packs a punch, with high acidity and high tannins that cling to front of the mouth. Incredibly characteristic and typical of a cabernet sauvignon, to the point where one could use it as a tuning fork for one's palate.

Mindblowing for the price! Haven't got much experience with Aussie wine, but it put to shame the shirazes I got to taste until now in the same price range ($15).
Really interesting and complex aromas and flavors of black fruits, vanilla, toast, earth, parafin, truffles, spices. Tannins still a bit hard and slightly alcoholic, but excellent balance overall. Very good acidity and unsuspecting elegance for a bottle this cheap. Extremely enjoyable!
Deep garnet red, slightly subdued nose of smoky blackcurrants and cherries, big bang if dark fruit, earthy, tobacco, licorice, medium bodied, medium length. Not one to drink young, suspect will develop nicely over 10 years. Will re-visit in 2-3.

Tahbilk visit (Tahbilk winery): {screwcap, 13.5%, $A18} Pure and youthful nose of mulberry and currants. Medium, drying chalky tannins hint at the aging aspiration; it’s no fruit bomb, that’s certain. Herb and currant flavours are present in medium-bodied form, the back palate is a little soft; this will be better in 5 years at least.

Deep red/ purple, some tawny emerging. Pepper and alcohol on the nose. Tannins over power any palate. Drinks like a high alcohol wine.
