In the zone with great balance and sneaky opulence. Complex orchard fruit cut with tons of mineral spice. Body is big but concealed in a fantastically graceful mid palate. Everything fully in tune. Fantastic length.

Twelve Vintages of Lafon Montrachet: A fantastic bottle, with excellent structure and balance. Fun having it next to the sublime 2010, and it fully held its own. A class act.
11/12 pairing. So much depth of flavor and concentration, particularly for 2011. Exceptionally detailed and precise with intense flavors and an impressive amount of complex fruit, mineral, spice and nut flavors. I slightly preferred the more raw and powerful 2012.

Happy Birthday to Me (Oriole - Chicago IL): Alongside the 2012, both showing great. This was floral, bright and linear with so much apple, lemon and lemon zest. Long and wonderfully precise. Some people preferred the richness of the 2012, but I found this 2011 to be more energetic and the better of the pair.

Started strong, and went upward from there. From first sniff to it's powerful finish, this is very classy wine indeed. We chose to drink it slowly right from the initial decant, which was a great choice.

Ramonet Montrachet Lunch (Phoenix, AZ USA): Lights out! Juicy tropical fruit on the attack with a massively powerful saline finish. A denser mouthfeel with more viscosity than any of the Ramonet wines. This is the total package, power with focus.
It's like a combination of the body and intensity of a great mature vintage of Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne, but with Montrachet clarity. Supremely impressive, and an instructive contrast to the Ramonet style - this is yang to the Ramonet's yin.

Montrachet and DRC (Chicago, IL): This has a gorgeous, airy nose of rich orchard fruit, white flowers, minerals and spice. Elegantly styled and seamless with a powerful, endless, chiseled finish.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux / Grands-Echezeaux 2002/2010 (State Street Manor - Chicago IL): Darker color than I expected, but incredibly bright and fresh aromas and flavors. Very floral with grapefruit, lemon and lemon peel, this started out subdued but was powerful and explosive once open 30-35 minutes. This kept getting bigger, bigger and bigger as it progressed, seemingly providing an ultra long 100 second (?) finish. Upside from here.

very precise, chiseled and racy, the flavors are multi-dimensional and well delineated, with a clear a sumptuous saline streak from the mid-palate into the finish. we started with the wine a bit too cold, which made it touch austere at first, but it really opened up over time...citrus, saline and minerals.

Rich and precise. Leesy. Lemons and lots of minerality. Super fresh as you would expect. Crisp and clean. Maybe closing down a bit but this is still really fun.

Spicy and classic nose, with loads of peppermint. This wine is so balanced and pure, elegance with rich, vibrant fruit. No hint of POX, thank goodness, but always a risk with Lafon, sadly.

Lush and rich with citrus notes, some stone fruit, deep floral elements but with a balancing sharpness from petrol notes and light spice. Better in the glass after one hour. Bottle consumed over two hours. Good upside here, this will be better with time. 95+

Lafon Montrachet vertical with some great champagne and reds. (Four Seasons, Minneapolis, MN): Vertical tasting of Montrachet 2000-2019: Great structure. Rich and viscous with some honey notes. Wonderful balance with great length. Middle third rating.

Performed better than expected. Fresh and lively. Good depth to this bottle. Upside if it can avoid oxidation. 94-95+

C Roumier in HK. Very strong again. White flower aromatics. Attractively austere with plenty of depth and concentration, but zero heaviness.

AT Xmas. When these are on... white flowers that leap out of the glass. Elegant, candied palate that really built weight over the evening.
