Bjørnebær, moreller, solbær, lær, lakris og fat. God og fyldig syrefrisk frukt med avslipte taniner. Takler ett kraftig kjøttmåltid og fungerer i glasset etterpå.

Decanted for 90 minutes. Lovely nose of rose, tar and herbs. The palate is medium bodied, graceful but showing the fruit of the vintage. Not having the depth of the old vines cuvee but still very good.

NV Rogna (Marta, NYC): [Double-decanted for a half hour around 5pm.] Gorgeous nose of red fruit. Complex. Long, juicy finish of red fruit, tar and tannin. Needs at least another 5-10 years to show all it's got. 92-93

A beautiful ripe but not overripe nose with terrific purity of fruit and florals. Cherry, rose, some Giacosa like hard candy and balsam notes. Effusively perfumed on the palate with beautiful fruit and florals. It's forward and bordering on Baroque but with terrific balance. This grew over a few hours being open. A forward wine that has the requisite balance to not only be immensely passively pleasurable, but also give you things to think about. Luca does very well in warm years. Better than the last bottle I had last year. Youthfully at peak. 94

Popped and poured, drank a little and then return to it slow oxed three hours later. Nose a little subtle and herbal but the palate is delicious. Red cherry, tar and truffles. Medium to full bodied. Nicely balanced and showing some elegance although not very complex. Excellent.

Bjørnebær, solbær, fat, tobakk og lakris i nesa. Bjørnebær, markjordbær, litt fat med avslipte myke taniner. Middels fylde, men stod godt til grillet entrecote. Fungerer nå også i glasset etter maten.

Slow ox 30 minutes. Nice subtle nose of rose and tar. The palate is medium to full bodied with excellent concentration and acidity at the same time. Red fruit with tart cherry flavors, earth and iron coming through. Really delicious and well balanced if you like Classically styled piedmont in a more restrained style. I think this will be in peak in 3-5 years.

Cherry fruit, rose more than violet florals, amaro, and tar on the nose. The fruit is ripe and forward but not pruny nor turning brown. Lovely perfume really. Supple and rich but not heavy on the palate, it's expansive with excellent depth and quite a fine sense of harmony considering the riper year. More red fruited nebbiolo fruit, lovely inner mouth perfume and spice on the palate, finishing with balsamic notes and fine, ripe tannins. Quite long. It's forward and giving and drinking well already. A more Baroque version of Luca's Paje, but he seems to excel in warmer vintages compared to many producers. For me, this is drinking at early peak. 93.

First half, decanted half an hour. The nose was at first diagreeably dirty and rotten, then deep fragrances of rose-tinted dark fruit became more prominent. In the mouth it was angular and somewhat incoherent, the sweetness, the acidity and the tannin seeming to arrive at the palate at different times. Some lovely aspects while others seemed less good. The fill in the bottle was surprisingly low (top shoulder).
Second half from recorked half-bottle, a day later: Decanted briefly. At the proper temperature this is now a lot better. Beautiful dark floral and spicy nose. Silky harmonious taste, fairly light, very fine now. So needs some air.

Very muted bottle. Nice enough, but not showing much at the moment. Decanted for 90 mins before the first glass. Some stewed fruits, but really very closed up.
Wouldn't seek out more based on this bottle, or open another anytime soon.

1½ hour after opening this appears very approachable (as indeed it did right after opening), the nose showing minerals, some rather organic aromas, a hint of volatile acidity, medicinal notes and dark fruits. The quite friendly tannins soften with time and food. The taste has detail and interest. It might be less good than the 2003 or 2004 but it is a lovely glass of wine.

Salil does Chicago 4; 4/6/2018-4/7/2018 (Chicago, IL): I've had a Roagna in the past where I thought it showed a little modern in terms of the polish that the wine had. This bottle is definitely different from that. The nose is quite high-toned, and there's a particularly pungent hint of red wine vinegar there. This may have been the function of this bottle being opened and most of it consumed a few hours before I got my hands on it. The palate has a lighter red-fruited character as well, but there's a heaviness in the sweetness and the smidgen of alcoholic burn on the finish that brings you back to 2007.

Not a full TN . In a good place, decent balance, not too fruity, firm but also rounding with time. Didn't help that it followed int he wake of the 97 Granbussia (Papies 93). 90-91

Insanely sweet, cherry liqueur on the nose. Crazy expressive. Almost overwhelming. Similar on the nose with orange, cherry, leather, and tobacco. Fantastic, showing great, and just stunning.

This was somewhat closed down after a two hour decant. Did not open up significantly over the next two hours. Either a not great bottle or entering a dumb phase. Pleasant enough, with food, but not as good as the last bottle I had a year ago.

Decanted one and a half hour. Quite muted and even lacking a bit in complexity though true to the Roagna style of detail and traditional nebbiolo (including leasant aromas of fig); slightly disappointing after a glass of Burlotto's fresher and simpler Verduno Pelaverga 2013 which showed more presence. Maybe it is just closing down?

Good showing. There is a serious structure here and the tannins while softening are present. I like the interplay of fruit oak and acidity. Strangely this reminds me more of a young napa cab than a barbaresco.
Good stuff but please wait 5-8 years if you can.

Continues to drink well after a two hour decant. Pretty with nice florals and some tar on a well integrated palate. Can age, and might improve, but to my taste is in a nice place.

Entering a nice place. Decanted two hours, consumed over two days. With air, has a soft and pretty presence for a young wine. Nice aromatics, interesting palate with cherry and flower notes. No great complexity, has good acid so might develop more with time, but a very pleasant wine with or without food.

First half, decanted 1-2 hours: This is fragrant, cool and silky and has good substance and structure. Lovely wine with no trace of heat. Better, I think than the 2004, and more substantial than 2003.
Second half decanted slightly shorter and more reticent. Still, a very elegant effort and for now much more harmonious than Burlotto's 2007s.

From the wine list at Locando, Mission District, SF. First bottle popped and poured, second one decanted for a short while. Beautiful nose of cherry and floral notes. Tannic palate of red fruit and savory flavors. Not noticeably long on the finish. Great pairing with sautéed olives and with wood-fire grilled guinea fowl leg.

Lovely light, lifted nose, full of fresh flowers and red berry fruit. Nice hint of something savoury appearing with time in the glass. Silky smooth with finesse and elegance but a depth and power that grows on the palate. Lovely texture with great ripeness of fruit and a floral character that lingers on the fresh finish. Superb.

Very pleasant young nebbiolo. Decanted one hour, consumed over next three. Bright ruby red. Graceful mouthfeel with tart cherry and some tannin. Good balancing acidity. Pretty on the palate, with a bit of a heavier berry, tar and flower nose. Drinks well now, likely to improve with age, not sure how old this one might go.
