No formal notes, but this was a wine that everyone enjoyed. It was further proof that CA cabernets need time. They will reward you in the great enjoyment - as this wine did.

Wine is still primary but in wonderful balance. Tannins have softened and the fruit and oak are in check. Very extracted dark purple color. Sweet bing cherry cola and sweet nose. More cherry on the palate with a long finish.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like prune. It tastes like raisin and mineral. The body is full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

PNP later in evening and really nice. Still very youthful and dark colored, but not simplistic or heavy and very pleasant after many bottles of funkier European stuff....some big sweet Cali fruit was very easy on the palate...delish

For a wine that is 12 years old it is still amazingly youthful. It truly is coming into its own and the fruit and tannins are beautifully integrated. Mid palate hints of ripe fruit with exquisite tannins. Still very extracted. You can tell so much care was taken in the making of this wine. I am gushing as I drink it!

Spring mountain produces some of the best fruit! This stuff is so velvety at this age, I could call it a big Merlot lover's Cabernet .This one was a huge crowd pleaser. big fruit, soft supple tannins and a solid finish. Sherwin always seems to deliver great new world Cabs

Finally this wine is coming around. Nose has a bit of secondary earthiness to go along with the toast of oak and cassis. The palate is now more in balance as the dark red berry fruit profile folds into the tannins. Finish is moderate. Wine is getting better with time.

Found it in perfect harmony at this point in its life. One of the last years that this winery did traditional CS bottling, and by that I mean not all fruit-forward, and more highly extracted. This wine highlights Spring Mntn fruit from good year with some age to let it integrate. One bottle left and it'll be hard not to drink it in 2012!

Pop and pour. Dark in color with edges a bit red, this was totally open and ready for business. Nose of red fruits with cherries and cassis. Palate showed some aged wine stuff of cedar box, tobacco and worn leather. There was a hint of forest floor. Pure and fully integrated, this was near perfectly balanced. Somewhat Bordeaux-like, it's one of those wines that appeals to both old world and new world guys. Pretty and precise with a finish that remained consistently red fruited. After an hour or two in the decanter it got softer and just a wee-bit thinner. I would not hold these too much longer---if I owned anymore that is.

I would concur with recent tasting notes--this cab is superb and its prime. Opened and let breathe for only about 30 minutes and it was most impressive. Will let my next and last bottle breathe for a couple hours and wait with heightened expectation.

Not decanted; replacement bottle from winery for a previously corked bottle. Blue fruit, berries, cassis and heady leather on the nose, with noticable but not overpowering oak. Just about perfect-tasting for this wine today, with a heavy-to-medium weight, fine-grained tanins, great mouthfeel with a bordeaux-like finish that goes on for 20+ seconds. Juicy, ripe fruit flavors dominated by blue and blackberry, still get some of the glycerin that I picked up on my last tasting of this 4 years ago, but this is in great form. 4 hrs after opening this has integrated even better, with faint cedar and mild black plum along with cigar. Now I'd assume its a bordeaux if I didn't know any better. Should still be very good for another 3 -7 years. I always thought of Sherwin as fruit-bombs until now. Much like a mature Fisher cab from a few miles down the road.

Nice improvement since my last bottle in 2006! This does a great job of managing the fine line of fruit and earth components. I enjoyed the gravel and the mid-palette was a wonderful combination of dark fruits matching the earth. Drinking very well now and likely improves from here.

Opened and glass decanted for about 30 minute before serving and followed over 2+ hours. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of Kirsch, currants, plums, black berries and a bit of sandalwood. Flavors or black cherries, plums, black berries and plums. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or continute to hold. I'm not sure why I quit buying this wine. I've enjoyed every bottle I've opened.

Last night with boneless NY Strips from the grocery store. Popped about 2 hours prior to drinking (took a small sip to see if it was corked then left it uncorked). In the glass this was drinking pretty fantastic. Tannins have really mellow since 2004 when I first purchased. Fruit is seemless, blackberry/cassis and a hint of tobacco leaf on the back end. Good acidity. It's pretty balanced and even a little more understated than I thought it would be. Really enjoyable and definitely in a good drinking place.

Another Steve Sherwin fruit bomb, whose tanin is just starting to mellow into the massive weight of blackberry, cherry, cough syrup grape, and casis that is surrounded by tart cherry, lemon and gooseberry. Drinking this wine now may be infanticide, but killing children has never been so much fun!!!

day1: gave this a dble splash decant. the tannins were overwhelming & i could barely finish the 2 oz pour so I gassed the bottle and placed it back in the cooler. day 2: did not try day 3: medium to full bodied wine with notes of plum, blackcherry, cedar & secondary nuances. the tannins are still present but less pronounced. good structure & acidity but this wine would benefit with a dash of merlot to give it a little lushness & mouthfeel. overall a good effort. definitely mountain fruit. 50+5+13+16+7=91 pts

Popped and poured at Pt. Brugge. Nicely paired w/ grilled ribeye. There is a lot here. Tannin not fierce. As usual, needed more time to aerate and broaden. Nice wine. Not sure if I'd d necessarily buy again at the price, but a very nice drink

Tasted October 1, 2007. Popped and poured. Showing amazingly well right out of the bottle for such a young California Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple to dark purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Big nose of cassis, currants, crushed black berries and a touch of either thistle or dried herbs underneath. Rich and juicy flavors of black berries, black cherries and dark plums. Somewhere between moderate and vibrant acidity, still fairly firm tannins and definitely full bodied. Needs more time in bottle to settle. Hold.

Great fruit, but way too much oak. This unfortunately takes away from the wine quite a bit. Still very enjoyable, and hopefully if given 5 years the oak will work itself out.

Three words come to mind; fruit, glycerin and elegant. A solid effort, but not a wine that will age well. If you are looking for power (as I was) you may be a little disappointed- I bought this after reading a Wine Spectator article on Fran Tarkenton (former Viking QB). Fran said it was powerful- I disagree.

Opened but not decanted, and allowed to sit for 90 mins. Nice coloring, dark fruit aromas with a bit of tar and alcohol. Very fruity upfront, with glycerin but little tannic backbone. Very smooth, nice 20+ second finish, no evidence of the alcohol on the nose, but as noted by others, not sure if this has the legs for longevity.

deep purple teeth staining color--layers and layers of sweet dark fruit, not much “typical” cab nose..no cedar, pencil, etc..in the mouth, full of dark sweet cherries and plums, sweet tannins... but not much on the finish.. this is great now.. ?does it have the structure to age much beyond 5-6 yrs
