Clear ruby garnet Bright red fruit aromas Bright but slightly lean fruit on the palate, this is drinking quite nicely currently, and might opt for earlier drinking before the fruit fades too much. YFS

hot nose. feminine and muted fruit but considerably complex. Dances on my tongue in a unique way. I just wonder how much longer this can last with such muted fruit.

This has progressed nicely in the 18 months since I’ve opened one. What were previously tightly wound cranberry flavors have blossomed a bit into some nice secondary flavors that have added more complexity than what previously existed. This is also more balanced and harmonious. Very enjoyable.

Light bodied and one dimensional even an an hour of air. No hard edges but also missing terroir and other complexities for an 11 year old wine. Decent well made wine but not much that points to burgundy. Went well with our cheese. Drink now.

Colour is transparent red, not showing much maturity
Nose is very nice, full of berries (mostly cherries), spice and violet, very typical Volnay and really none of the expected green tones you often find in this vintage.
Medium weight on the palate, good length and balanced
Drinking very well now, probably not improving much from further cellaring, this was a nice surprise given the somewhat bad reputation of the vintage

In early maturity stage. Fine pleasant aroma, first of red berries with floral notes, then spices like cardamom add to the mix. Taste of black and red currant with a bit of licorice. Quite fresh and may need a few years to integrate the acidity... but already complex and beautiful

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Volnay (Overgaauw Wine Estate): (Tasted Blind): A light+ crimson colour with intial muted aromas. After some further agitation, I got undergrowth, Sous Bois, blackberry, sweet oak spices and some redcurrant, too. There was a sappy, slightly green, stalky component in tandem giving freshness (stem inclusion?). A lively redcurrant tartness of acidity supports a fleshy core of summer pudding, berries and fresh herbs. Chewy textured followed through to grainy, narrow tannins and tension on the back palate that, together with savoury edges and a rooibos tea on the close, added to a focus, delightful wine.

Tasted blind. Guessed Santa Ynez pinot. Muted aromas of strawberries, black truffle, and cinnamon. Neither powerful nor elegant. I don’t have much hope this will improve.

Poured into a wide-bottom decanter for 2 hrs before drinking. Just completely shut down: giving essentially nothing on the nose. Hints of rose and red fruit with some green notes in the background. On the palate, much more expressive with lots of cranberry and strawberry. Rather dark with what seem like bitter woody notes. Leads into bitter woody notes on the finish. Will try again tomorrow, but if this bottle is representative meh..
Ok, so I was pouring this back in the bottle to put it away, and this intense scent wafts from the funnel...like candied strawberry and raspberry, mixed with some herbs. So I poured myself a sip. Amazing what a difference 5 hrs makes. By contrast, seems slightly muted on the palate now.
Day 2: sat on the counter unrefrigerated overnight. Much more open, but still a fair amount of woody bitterness on the palate. Better today, but still somewhat meh.

I am so thrilled to be drinking this wine. First, 2011 is that vintage for me that I generally never love, really, from anywhere in the world, for wines that I like. This wine is a glaring exception!. It is limpid red in color; just a beautiful appearance. I am drinking out of Zalto Bordeaux glass. The nose has been a little reticent all night, but there are aromas of red and black pinot fruit, imbued with dark soil. There is a nice aroma of fresh cut meat and irony game blood, very pleasing! It is delicious in the mouth, with more game perceptions, and pretty red and clear black fruit. It is long, but quite subtle, tart. Very good.

At a merchant tasting. Light garnet. Nose of red fruit, some raspberry. Lean and light on the palate, quite sinewy, tannins soft, acidity too pronounced. Aromas ok, but too light. Confirms my view of the weak 2011 vintage.

Warm cherry pie. Lovely nose. Palate offers less fruit than the palate suggests. Light cherry with silky but still austere tannins. Might be closer to 91pts as it matures. Should drink well young and won't be a Long term keeper.

Bright cherry red in the glass. A nose dominated by red fruits. Cherries and raspberries, but also palma violets. Lots of alcohol also present on the nose. From the bottle, not so enjoyable, and slightly bitter/tart; much better after 3 hours. The wine softens and the fruit comes forward. Give this another 3 years at least. I recall thinking this would be a great wine to buy by the case and drink in 20 years.
Update: second try of this I gave it 7 hours of air. Wow. What a difference. The nose softens and becomes dominated by dark fruits, and an almost bordeaux quality. Far more enjoyable and fruit driven.
Drink 2020-40

A big wine with plenty of fruit and good acidity. There is a certain amount of green taste in the wine, if this evens out it will be a great Volnay. Will be much better in 5-10 years.

Monthly Wine Dinner: Black cherries, herb and stems, definitely dipping into green territory. Good poise on the palate, with the fruit showing off in a more flamboyant manner. I like the structure and if the stems don't end up dominating the wine this could be very nice.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy/Champagne Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Red cherry on nose and palate with some black fruit hints on palate. Subtle spice hints. Firm and more power than I'd expect from a 2011 Volnay, but everything is in enough harmony that I expect this will emerge nicely, but certainly needs 5+ more years in the cellar

Knightsbridge 2011 Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Certainly the most complex aromas and flavors of the Pousse d'Or lineup with lots of red and black berry, clove, licorice and green peppercorn. Lots of ripe character, but also firmly structured for the long-haul, so will need some cellar time to soften. Very good potential.

Noe knytt. Ung pinotfrukt i utgangen. Utvikler seg stort i glasset og fremstår dypere, mer konsentrert og tilgjengelig etter en times tid.

Pousse d'Or of Volnay (Bistro 7 (7 N. 3rd St., Philadelphia)): Consistently one of my favorite wines from this producer, and it did not disappoint. Floral, subtle fruit. Light and delicate nose but really complex. Concentrated, complex on the palate. Bursting acidity and nice finish.

***From barrel at domaine: Pure fruit, more elegant than its surrounding vines within cailleret; silkier, light "fruits des bois" with slight cinnamon-spice aspect. Fine tannins and fine wine. Pousse d'or wines seemed to be standouts amongst most 2011's.
