Very different on day 2. No decant. Light red color, hedonistic nose immediately when cork was out. Quaffable, light and sweet from the beginning, charming and sexy. Red berries, vanilla, mint. Easy drinking, you always want more. Medium to long finish, silky. On day 2 the wine was kind of shut down, locked. Very reserved, austere. Some red fruit notes, but very distant. Medium finish was tannic. Definitely not as pleasant as the day before. So I assume there has some more years of development ahead.

Drank the last bottle of the 07 on our CO/UT trip. Was the winner in a Coravin tasting with some strong competition. Drinking really well when at the right temperature. The first night we drank it we did not have time to cool it down. At around 75 deg, the alcohol spiked a bit and it was out of balance. But around 60 deg, it was terrific. Last bottle; hope the 06s are as good.

Brownish-red garnet color. Mushy raspberries and a bit of spice on the nose. I find this wine hard to parse by sensory element as the blending of flavors is so thorough. It has passed its apex and is overall a bit muddled. However, it avoids dullness by virtue of its still-sharp acids and medley of tart and overripe red fruit, mostly raspberry with just a passing hint of watermelon somewhere in the palate progression. This was consistent at opening, after a few hours, and the next day after being left overnight on the countertop. I’m shocked at the comparison with my 93-point review last October.

Medium-dark garnet color with the faintest hint of brown. An odd but compelling nose of cocoa, mushrooms, and red berries. Sharp, sweet berries on the front palate. A touch of vanilla cream at the mid palate followed by more red fruit and cocoa. Lingering cocoa and creme in the finish. There is also a bit of funk, which might have blown off if I had met is decant more than an hour, but it was more additive than distracting. Delicious.

Really nice bottle. This is fairly traditional in style, mid-weight, with good red fruit, and some nice secondaries. The tannins are still notable, but this is drinking well now. A very good food wine. Will easily hold for a few more years, but drinking well now. Have one bottle left and would like to see where it is in a couple more years. Was an excellent value at $40

Brought to Lucano for dinner. Was initially somewhat disjointed, but opened up nicely with air over 20-30 minutes. Nice mix of red and black fruits with good acidity and some touches of earth and complexity. This paired well with food and was quite enjoyable. Drinking well now, but I think these will probably still improve a bit and will be good for at least more years.

Attractive red/violet color with a wonderfully perfumed nose. Bright and fresh red cherries, robust minerality, pleasant acidity and a long finish. Balanced and elegant. A terrific wine that is in a great spot and should have a number of years ahead of it.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Lighter color, some change. Nose more subtle. On palate, sweet cherry liqueur, refined tannin. This was a beautiful wine, I thought it was '07 Poggio di Sotto. Really well done.

Really, really good wine. Decanted 2-3 hours. Almost NO sediment. Candy apple red. Tasted more like a PN than a Brunello. The fruit was all red fruit but it was just so elegant, as it was rich but not extracted. A= wine.

I've enjoyed my last bottle of this in the Berlin Swissotel - again. Drinking window is wide open. Medium body (as for all Caparzo's) and a highly perfumed nose.
What will I enjoy when being in Berlin again after not having any more bottles of this beauty? ;-)

Wine Tasting Group: 2007's from around the world (Our house): The nose on this wine was initially giving up nothing -- very closed. It got a little bit better with time, but was still the most aromatically challenged of the 4 wines by far. On the palate, this had traditional brunello character, but was very tight and a bit disjointed. It improved steadily over the course of 2+ hours, and this bodes very well for additional bottle age. This is drinkable now with a long decant, but I think this will be much better in 3-5 years and beyond. Quality stuff with considerable scoring upside. My #2. Group's #2.

This has beautiful candy apple red color. Just lovely. Cherry on the nose and the same with the fore-palate. Full palate. Just wonderful wine. A real keeper. Wish I had more than two more bottles.. Will definitely age for 3-5 more years. Not a full bodied as I think of a Brunello, but really flavorful.

Assez tannique. Encore trop jeune pour être apprécié pleinement. Très longue finale. À revoir dans 4 ou 5 ans

Coravin taste-off: 07 Altesino Montosoli, 07 Lisini, 07 Caparzo La Casa, 09 Scalette Il Carbonaione.: The most restrained nose initially. More similar to the Lisini than the Montosoli, but more fruit forward than the Lisini (nice sour cherry). Also a more viscous mouthfeel than Lisini. Definitely a little bite to the tannins here but this would be approachable to drink with a short decant. No doubt will last a long time too. 91 now, potential for 93

Lighter than the Rust en Vrede 2008 Estate wine, which we were enjoying as well. Lighter Color, already brown at the edges. Is the drinking window closing? Not sure, however, the 2007 seems really to be not as good for the cellar than the 2006. I will have to check on my 2007 Italian reds.
Beside that really nice drinking and highly perfumed.
Enjoyed at Chateau de la Poste, close to Namur, Belgium.

Perfect medium bodied Brunello. High durable quality, I have never been disappointed so far. After opening, the perfume jumps right out of the bottle. Perfect within drinking window. I wonder why people buy expensive Bordeauxs when they could have this perfect Brunello for below 40€. I am impressed. Once again!

J'adore!

Dinner at Philipp’s place: The wine for potato porcini soup.
So far one of my top favorites of a 2007 modern styled Brunello. Expressive elegant nose (typical Caparzo) and long finish (not so very typical).
I wonder why this wine is so seldom seen in the market. Especially considering the winery QPR which is on the top side of the range (from the 2010 Rosso di Montalcino (incl. La Caduta) to the 2007 Brunello / Riserva / La Casa). Could also be consumed without food.
