Black cherry core, medium weight, light rim. Ripe black cherry fragrance, soft herbal spice, very well integrated. Cherry, damson, a little blueberry, soft earthy spice, sweet fruits drive it but finishes with well balanced acidity and fine furry tannins that are beautifully structured. Drinks beautifully.

(Dreyfus Ashby & Co. import; purhased on release); fresh and young; bright, deep garnet red in color; earthy beetroot and cranberry on the nose; piquant, chalky red fruit on the palate; the finish has minerals, spice and black cherry; the longer it sat in the glass, the more emotionally involving it became (it kept drawing me back and improved each time I tasted it); this is delicious, but I need to keep my hands off; it has gobs of potential. Even better on night #2. In five years, this will be a 'wow' wine.

Enveloping and sexy nose with floral notes, crushed blueberry, space and savory goodness. Palate is still very youthful, with deep dimension and great verve that slowly unfurls over time. Long finish but this needs more air or another 3 - 5 years to reach its prime drinking window. Certainly upside from here (95-96)

Acker's COVID-Vaccinated BYO Dinner and Auction Simulcast (Craft - New York NY): Served alongside the 1996. Complex array of red and black cherry and berry with savory spice. Nicely harmonious with structure just off-center where it belongs. At a very good place now, but this had been open for several hours when tasted.

93++. Translucent ruby. Very pure but still quite tightly wound with great structure holding the red currant and crunchy red fruits firmly in place. Still feels very young but what purity and precision on both nose and palate. The wine gets better with more and more air and there is an ethereal and haunting pinot nose of the highest class. Not such soil/spice/undergrowth notes at this "young" stage in its development! I think there is quite some upside to this great vintage and would love to revisit this in a few years time.

The 2002 Bonnes Mares is a classic representation of the terroir with masculinity, structure and power. The wine is densely knitted with spice, dark fruit, candied fruit and minerals. When the wine finally opens up in its third hour, it shows its ethereality. It clearly has upside from here, which should be 2-3 years away before it enters its drinking window. Nevertheless, the wine is actually approachable and enjoyable tonight.

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting, in 08/02/95 vertical. Enticing combination of red and black berry, maturing ever-so-gradually with both sweet and savory spice. Everything in place. Great now, but this is still a bit burly, so I fuily expect upside from here.
The Verticals Tasting at 2020 La Paulée de New York (Eventi Hotel, New York): Gorgeous, complete young wine. Sappy with oustanding balance of red and black fruit and soil with terrific length. This was all confirmed tasting a second bottle later. Extreme class. Should carry on well beyond its 30th birthday. Another beautiful 2002.

2002 Burgundy Dinner (Chef Kang, MacKenzie Road, Singapore): Very lovely, even if this felt a tad young. It had a wild nose, with bits of funky meat and sous bois, and wafts bramble and spice, all wrapped around a fragrant core of dark cherries and blueberries. Nice. The palate was still a bit backward, maybe even a bit sullen compared to that expressive bouquet, but boy there was tons of quality on it. This just felt really polished, with velvety tannins and gently integrated acidity forming a backdrop for truly mouth-coating, Grand Cru-scale flavours of dark cherries and blueberries. There was also a firmer underbelly to the wine, with fine, but firm tannins showing up more obviously towards a long, fresh finish of black cherry peel seasoned with a touch of brambly wood spice. Really impressive, but this needs time though; it will be lovely in 4-5 years.

Vouge at its best. Vogue floral tones and complexity, nicely laced fruits, powerful. Very perfumed and well-balanced. Vogue doesn’t always sing but this 2002 is tremendously impressive. Focused on the palate, intense with vibrant fruits and minerality in the finish. Beautifully long and fragrant finish. Energetic. Drinking well now, could could really benefit with another 2 decades of ageing I reckon. Great potential! (94-95/100)

Do they drink 2002 Red Burgundy in Heaven ? This is another lovely 2002 with all the fragrance and lift of the year in a terrific red fruited package of strawberry, red cherry and raspberries with touches of thyme and lavender on the nose. The palate is initially pillowy and caressing but then a lovely finish of mineral and cumquat zest grabs the attention and then gently fades away with the red fruit. Just delicious.

Ruby red. Intense nose of red fruit and soil. Fruit compote on the soft and balanced palate. Long finish. This is a powerhouse and in a great place to enjoy, and yet no rush to drink.
Slow ox decant for 2 hours. Intense nose of spice and dark fruit with a hint of tobacco. Nose more complex as it sat in glass over next couple of hours. Mineral and earth on the palate with serious concentration of dark fruit with tannins present but really impressive texture. Fortunate to experience a wine of this caliber. Paired with a Wagyu Ribeye.

Really ripe nose of black cherry and exotic dark spices. The texture of the wine is youthful even with a little spritz evident along with typical Vogue structure but then the powerful and ripe black cherry fruit kicks in which is forward and delicious. This is a big Bonnes Mares that is beautifully delineated and while it is years from proper maturity, it is simply delicious tonight with oven-roasted quail. The finish is loaded with fabulous spices and real mineral crunch. Is there anything better than game birds and Grand Cru red Burgundy? 94+

Ruby. Ripe dark fruit, peony, and sous bois on the nose. This shows powerful, ripe fruit in the mouth, yet with such a light touch. The medium-light body dances in the mouth while nice acidity keeps this fresh. A gorgeous Bonnes Mares with great expressions of the vintage. Drink through 2025+.

Clear. Clean (?), it developed a touch of aceton that some of us thougth was all right, but some thought it was to much. After a time in the glass it became too much for me, and it over shadowed the good elements in the wine. But since this was after a little while in the glass, I still got a good impression.
Powerfull purple color. Young. Very good intensity, young, fresh and sweet scented berries, cherries, still some oak spice present, but it contributes instead of overpowering. Slight volatile note, sweet and sour fruits. Mineral. No top notes, more in the deeper, darker aromatics. Seamless and balanced on the palate, some tannins still left from the wood. A mineral and good length on the finish. Good intensity.
A good wine had it not developed badly in the glass.

Sydney Burgundy Celebration Gala Dinner: Wickedly perfumed - violets, dark cherry, a meaty earthiness and tobacco - showing really well for such a young wine. Even the palate isn't entirely standoffish, it's seriously structured but there is enough fruit density and clarity to rise and provide pleasure already. Lovely wine and probably my favourite of these from 1998-2002 that I've tasted.

Bonnes Mares tasting with Jasper Morris; 2/24/2014-3/1/2014 (Berry, Bros & Rudd, St James, London): From magnum, again opened and poured for 1.5 hours. This has more concentration than the 07 and is much fuller and deeper colour. A very perfumed nose with violets and cherries is just lovely. Lots of ripe mouthfilling fruit but it's in no way jammy, there's great clarity and definition of flavour, even something like salinity here, whatever is, this is really lovely and has a good future ahead

Zachys in Chicago (EL Ideas - Chicago IL): Served in a great flight of Vogue 98/00/02 Bonnes Mares. Open an hour+ before serving. I was afraid this would be completely unfriendly and unforthcoming, but that wasn't the case as all. Dense, meaty and ever-so-slightly backward, this was firmly structured but also had so much ripe black fruit, density, richness and spice that everything came across as harmonious. Ok, this would have benefited from a few hours in a decanter or another decade in the cellar, but still a truly "wow" wine tonight.

Beautiful red tone. Great clarity and depth of color in the glass. This naturally elegant wine has an astonishing nose of wild red fruits, with genuine, generous ripe pinot intensity. Some licorice and floral notes complete the ethereal bouquet(100% primary aromas for one or two years). A seductive palate, structured and delicate, with a fine balance of silky but firm tannins, vivid acidity and rich fruit. Such purity too. Very young wine, drink after 2012.
