VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): Love me some Marcassin! Sometimes you need a little wood spice in your life! After drinking all those Chablis and Burgs, I do miss drinking these. The 10 is wonderful! Rich and full of butter sauteed apples and apricots...lemon squeeze, citrus oil, pineapple, lifts it nicely. SO much complexities of smoked vanilla bean, toasted campfire marshmallows, butterscotch spice...plenty crushed rock minerality...flint strike...all well in balance, and a delectable mouthful of goodness!

Wow, this was such a lovely wine. Clear and quite deep yellow in colour with a nose of lemons and other citrus. In the glass was a very smooth wine with flavours of lemon, butter, vanilla and nutmeg. Every sip had a very long finish. I wish that I had more of these bottles.

Gold in color. Modest but complex nose. Tart peach, touch of vanilla, multiple complex integrated flavors, subtle, with citrus and vanilla on the finish.

Not as impressive as my last bottle. Enjoyed at Hidden Omakase in Houston. A bit flat and tame, still really good but on the lower end of what Marcassin can achieve (and what I’ve experienced w this vintage).

Three and a half years since I enjoyed this one. Solid 93 then, definitely has appreciated!
Marcassin always delivers. 96 points!
Still quite fresh and vibrant. Poured a light to medium straw colored. Very chalky vibrant yellow fruit with mild to moderate acidity. White pepper on the finish. So good! Going to be posting a lot of wines rapid fire from last night's Fourth Friday get together! Tons of life left. This one is just getting started!

Just lovely. Ethereal finish, all the elements of a great Cali chard but none of the overwrought, overheated flaws that so often seem to go hand in hand with good Cali chardonnay. Truly in a class of its own outside of Burgundy. My biggest question is whether the extraordinary cost is worth it compared to really good stuff in Burgundy. But such a pleasure. Wonderful to enjoy last night of the summer in Avalon.

Drank as a cocktail wine. My favorite Chardonnay producer. Marcassin creates such a rich, full-bodied, and citrusy Chardonnay that I just love to linger over. This nears perfection but could likely use a little more cellar time and would be best served with seafood.

Decanted briefly. Gorgeous nose of grapefruit and banana bread. On the palate, bold, bone-dry fruit with steely minerality. Delicious but better with food.

This clear and mid deep golden in colour wine was decanted for 30 minutes prior to pouring. It had a nose of mixed citrus including lemons and oranges mixed with some butter. In the glass were lemons mixed with butter and a very noticeable amount of nuttiness. This wine was still showing youthfulness despite it's 12 year old age.

PnP. Medium deep gold. Complex nose of herbs and tropical fruits and marzipan, perhaps due to a hint of botrytis. Lovely balance of fruit and phenolic intensity on the palate with a nice long finish. The richness of this wine was an interesting counterbalance to sushi. Less crisp than earlier bottles so I would say drink up.

PnP. Medium dark gold. Initially this is rather mute on the nose with some oxidized character. With air the wine seems to become more lively with good finishing acidity but not the depth and texture of orchard and tropical fruit previous bottles have had. May be better tomorrow but at this point this is disappointing. Drank with a seafood linguine with mussels and bay scallops.

PnP. Medium dark gold. Nose of orchard fruit - peach and pear, with a touch of tropical and marzipan notes. Gorgeous palate impression with unctuous orchard fruit, citrus, and sweet spicy notes. Finish is complex and long with good phenolic intensity and with acid to balance the richness. The balance is superb as noted on previous bottles. Drinking beautifully at age 11 and doesn't seem to be cracking up at all - certainly good for another 2-3 years.

Jailbreak Wine Dinner - Krug 168, Ultramarine, MacDonald and etc. (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): Fully integrated nose displaying ripe rich yellow fruit, yellow peach, pineapple, lemon curd, butterscotch and sweet spices. Not much mineral in the nose. Excellent concentration, dense slightly coiled yellow fruit, rich, round and extracted, medium acidity, low mineral and a medium to long dens yellow fruit driven finish with butterscotch at the end. At this stage, there is not much mineral expression which accentuates butterscotch/crème brulee. If you are a Chablis lover, don’t bother. No need to wait.

PnP. Medium transparent gold. Initially the nose is driven by a saline quality and some herbal notes with the fruit subsumed under this. On the palate this has exquisite balance - intense but not viscous with superb acidity on the finish and a tension to the flavors that is lovely. Although this is clearly riper than a Grand Cru white burgundy it would not be embarrassed in that company. I would say this is entering its peak drinking window at age 10 but will keep without a problem for 2-4 years.

Our first Marcassin chard. Wow, what a voluptuous, rich and classy wine. Full bodies, butterscotch, oak, lemon chiffon. Pale yellow. Thick, mouth coating. Dense, complex. A butter bomb, oak bomb to be sure, but very well done.

Kiawah Trip 2019; 8/24/2019-9/4/2019 (Kiawah Island): For me what sticks out here is just a deeper more golden oak. A touch more butter and depth, it's less bright and gold than the Three Sisters, but it has more going on.

Meyer lemon, yellow apple, caramel, honeysuckle, great minerality at the mid palate on, there is a bit of a spritz, could be secondary fermentation, not as far along as the previous bottle I had, drinking very well right now.

Aromas of crushed rock, mineral, tropical fruit and orange marmalade. Flavors of lemon meringue, papaya, mango, macadamia nut and touch of buttered popcorn. Ends with a long finish of 45+ second with nut and buttered popcorn notes. Was a little too cold initially but really came around. The nose wasn’t as open as I would have thought compared to the palate so I dinged it a bit for that but truely a fabulous Chardonnay.

This is my benchmark for Chardonnay! I love this Chardonnay, it is everything I could ask for in a great Chardonnay, i.e., beautiful gold color, intoxicating nose, and luscious palate that keeps drawing you in for another taste! This is a full bodied Chardonnay that is well balanced and integrated. The nose offers up some spring flowers, peaches, lemons, mushrooms and toasted oak aromas, which follow through on the palate along with some minerality, limestone and a hint of butterscotch. The finish is long and memorable, and calls you back for more! A great Chardonnay, and the best I have had to date!

Jason turns 60 (Tilia): Wow, the nose has funk on it, sulfur and some minerality. The palate is quite full-bodied. There is a rich mushroom character to it. This is the best Marcassin chardonnay I have had (bested 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010 3 sisters, 2011)

This wine is a show stopper/rock star! It says "Here I am!" and drops the mike! This everything right about California Chardonnay. I love these wines, and the 2010 is the best Marcassin I have tasted. I just wish I could get off the waitlist and onto their mailing list, but thankfully I know someone who is on the list and he has been kind enough to share on several occasions (Thank you Dan!). This is a full bodied Chardonnay that just explodes with flavors, including peach cobbler, fresh pear, baked brioche, lemon, limestone, butterscotch, and just the right amount of toasted oak. I can't imagine a wine being any better, but I left a point on the table, just to be safe! By far the best Chardonnay I have ever had!

Jason's Big 6-0 Bash (Tilia, Mpls): Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Wow, this almost defies words in some ways. Stunning, extremely complex and multi-layered. The nose is a mix of savory elements, earth and mushroom, golden and white fruits, toasted oak, The palate just soars. It's like crawling inside the barrel of wine itself and licking the juice off the barrel wall in all its glory. So earthy, a complete umami revelation, savory, mushroom and truffle, wonderful salinity and minerality on the mid and back end, full bodied and powerful, yet incredibly deft and almost weightless in sensation. The finsih goes on for over a full minutes as you take ut all in. Probably in the sweetest of spots. Loved it, my and group WWOTN (not including the '09 d'Yquem).

This took a while to open up as it became warmer. I would recommend letting it warm to nearly room temp and a hour or more open to get the full enjoyment from this Chardonnay. Delicious without a lot of caramel/brioche overwhelming the palate.

Enjoyed during a wine dinner with Shawn and the gang in Newton, MA (Sycamore). What a dinner-- the food was amazing! This wine was a show-stopper! Took about 30 mins to open up in the glass. Incredibly expressive with notes of toasted brioche, orange blossom, vanilla, and pineapple. Great mouth feel with elevation on the palate. Good minerality in balance with a California style- perhaps more French in character than typical. This is a great wine!

PnP. Medium yellow. Spice and tropical fruits on the nose with some saline character. Rather restrained. On the palate this is has an unctuous mouthfeel, but has the acidity to carry it off with style. Needs air to show more. Over a couple of days this really didn't improve further, unlike previous bottle.

Jailbreak Wine Dinner - 08 Cristal, 16 PYCM Remilly and etc. (St. Anselm): Like the last bottle, seems riper and heavier. Medium expressive nose displaying very ripe yellow fruit, yellow peach, lemon curd, pineapple, butter scotch, sesame, spicy spices and earth. Excellent concentration, packed very ripe yellow fruit, good acidity, medium mineral, dense and deeply toned, and a medium to long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with sesame at the end. There is a hint of heat. Although there is a lot more material here, not as interesting as the two white Burgundies.

Dan was being very curmudgeonly as he could taste butterscotch in this wine. I say he was right. I'd ALSO say I'll take every last bottle of this he has left and will even volunteer to take them away personally! Poured a medium amber color. Notes of butter and herb om the nose. Entry is overripe stone ground fruits with a nice weighted base. Butterscotch in front and middle but trails away in the finish where this wine just kind of dances more with a tarragon and peach kind of note. The only white I dared to try with the braised pork and pickled peppers. Although neither was a perfect complement, I was shocked at how this one definitely didn't run away! A true Marcassin! If you have these, I think I'd drink now.

PnP. Medium yellow. On the nose this is a bit tight with some toast and tropical fruits. On the palate initially this needs time with good intensity and acidity but not well melded together. With some air the wine still remains quite restrained put with excellent punch and better integration. This is a baby at age 8. Day 2 - stored corked in the fridge. Beautiful wine - clearly needs a decant; would rate 94-5 on day 2.

Straw yellow. Plush, voluptuous style of Chardonnay. Ripe tropical fruit, apricot, butterscotch notes on finish. Superbly balanced, with a crispness not often seen in such a big wine. Paired perfectly with fresh scallops- a candidate for WOTY for us.

Jailbreak Brewery restaurant opening SQN wine dinner with Justin Bonner (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): It seems a bit more mature and ripe than the last bottle drank in October of 2017. Medium expressive nose displaying very ripe yellow fruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, crème brulee, butter scotch, sweet spices and a hint of mineral. Excellent concentration, packed very ripe yellow fruit, medium acidity and a medium to long very dense and ripe yellow fruit driven finish. Seems a bit dull at the moment.

Better than expected. Big? yes. Bold oak flavors mixed with tropical fruit flavors? Yup. But it seems to retain balance, structure, and vibrance, though I'm not sure I get place/terroir. In my book, not worth the price, but a very well made wine. A-

Big 50 lunch (Mi Casa): Youthful ripe yellow fruit driven nose, peach, pineapple, lemon curd, white flowers, a hint of black truffle, sweet spices, butter scotch, honey and limestone. Excellent concentration, nicely layered, generous opulent yellow fruit driven palate impression, medium acidity and mineral and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish. Once again a hint of heat at the end. More primary fruit driven than the 08 and 09. Very opulent and flamboyant showing.

2010 MARCASSIN ESTATE SONOMA COAST CHARDONNAY- 14.3 % abv.; I`ve found many of this bottling to be big and bold and out of balance for my liking; not so with this one; it was definitely a big wine, but somewhat restrained giving way ti balance; it had a pleasant tropical and floral perfume along with honeyed citrus and honeysuckle and an underlying streak of minerals; the creamy mouthfeel added to the experience; I kept going back and finding myself enjoying it more and more; not to be confused with white Burgundy.

This clear and deep yellow in colour bottle was opened at home. It had a wonderful nose of various citrus smells including oranges, lemons and some peaches. When tasting this I had strong flavours of peaches and apricots. The wine had a very long finish and overall this wine was stunning and one of the best bottles of white wine that I have ever tasted.

The Second Avery Family Cellar Wine Dinner - Really old wines (The Grill Room at the Rosewood DC): Feels fresher than the last bottle. Youthful mineral driven nose displaying pineapple, lemon curd, acacia flower, spicy spices, butterscotch and limestone. Fresh and energetic, of course in very Californian way, medium acidity, strong presence of mineral, and a nice spicy spices and mineral driven finish. There is a hint of heat but it is not terribly bothersome. Nice showing.

Golden straw with a greenish edge. Very rich and aromatic. Full bodied white with medium acidity. Flint and honeysuckle on the nose. Unctuous texture. Tropical fruits and melon fruit with a lingering finish. It was much better after being opened a half hour. I enjoyed it but I was not enamored enough to see high 90's, which these wines consistently receive. Very good though and well recommended...albeit hard to find.

First dinner of the L.A. wine trip (The Bazaar at SLS, Beverly Hills, California): Started out with a funky nose with a hint of oxidation, but this mellowed out. Nose of smoke, gunflint, tropical fruits, very explosive. Palate has extremely good concentration, lemon rind, summer squash, background of walnuts, and sea shells. As with most Marcassins the flavor is very explosive but in balance and there is a tons of subtle flavors that come through with no hard edges. Finish lasts 40 seconds. Great wine!

Deep yellow. Marzipan, ripe apple and citrus nose. Drank this from a Coravin pour over one hour and at cool cellar temperature. Opened for a bit and and let it warm more than usual for chards. Notes of clove, lemon curd, pineapple, tropical fruit, and sweet vanilla but all balanced with acidity and purity. Tasted side-by-side, double blind, with the Three Sisters bottling from the same vintage, the two wines were almost indistinguishable at first, both on nose and palate. At the evening's end, this bottling started to show a greater sense of depth, though I'm not sure the difference is worth the premium one would pay. Stylistically, the wine was balanced and not over-the-top, as I expected it might be based on reputation. The terroir shows through and I did guess both of the Marcassins to be Sonoma Coast chardonnay, of high quality for the region. Lemon curd notes showed on the palate, and the nose showed the same as well as some mineral. However, this lacks the dynamics, complexity and harmony of a good Burgundy Grand Cru or even a good 1er cru, and is on par with many good Sonoma Coast chardonnays that cost much less. Nice wines though. 92-93

Only had the chance to open and let sit for about 20 minutes. Creamy texture well restrained from over concentration with an explosion of lemon zest, honey dew, toasty brioche, oak, and plenty of minerality. Slightly tart finish so will definitely benefit from more cellaring.
Similar to my other 97 bottle of this, it has almost perfect balance, great extraction and citrus fruit with a strong mineral streak throughout and the right amount of integrated oak. My wife said to never drink this without her now and to save the remaining bottles for her...

Taste buds are happy, palate friendly is an understatement. Flavors swim by like girls in string bikinis, little to see, lots to like. Yes it has oak, but not popsicle stick, more like a faint hint of smoke from a distant fire. Finish is long like a long cord on a grand piano, just so slowly fades away.

Yep, this is the real deal. Marc Estate Chards always seem to hew to the smoky, flinty side, but this one has fantastic balance. I'm not a big hazelnut guy, but the nose on this is just chock full of hazelnut, caramelized sugar, lemon curd and browned marshmallow. It's lovely. Not a hint of heat anywhere even though it's a very ripe wine. The mouth is opulent, rich, round and full of citrus. It is sweet with glycerin but fully dry and gratifying. I accessed this bottle three times prior in the last 4 months via my Coravin, so I think this proves you can at least get away with accessing up to 50 percent of a bottle over 4 month's time and not adversely affect the wine.
The finish is sublime and of the same character as the mouth of this wine. It's just a hint acidic, which makes it a good candidate for aging but actually costs it a point today.
Great juice.

This is utterly fantastic, intense extraction but great balance, loaded with minerals, oyster shell, salty blue stone, butterscotch, orange peel and cream. Only thing keeping this from 99-100 is the nose was open at first but shut down later in the night and the bitter-alcohol monster raised it's head late as well, it should be better kept-in-check in 2-3 years.

Marcassin, the crack of Chardonnay Total masterpiece, long blond girl in a tight dress. This is smoking hot, just shreds my brain, can't explain. Want something technical bla bla. Yellow gold, shimmers in the glass Nose says something speccial going on in this glass. Take a sip, smooth, rich, finish goes on and on. Butterscotch dripped into an oak cup sipped next to a Spanish food truck. Another sip, the oak fades, the mellon and passion fruit fly by. Could drink this all day.

Cloudy-milky, yellow-straw in color. A stylistic wine for sure, not for everyone. Yeasty-apple-ethanol-pear aroma. Very "hot" on the palate too and kinda burns the gums and tongue. Meanwhile, despite the physical sensation of the wine, flavors of pear, pineapple, and custard are there. Finishes hot. Like I said, a "stylistic" wine.

Really nice, maybe my favorite one of these I've had to date. Drink or hold (if you drink now a little air will do it good).

The most mineral driven Marcassin Chardonnay I've tasted. The nose is complicated by honeysuckle, citrus peel, vanilla bean and orange spice. Full bodied, intense, rich and freshness and zip to the lively lemon, lime finish.

Save for a couple years, it's good now but shows serious potential.

Very young, very good. Quince, lemon, apricot and some spice. Some oak noticeable. Good mouthfeel, long finish. This is going to be great in a few years.

Marcassin, the crack of Chardonnay
Total masterpiece, long blond girl in a tight dress.
This is smoking hot, just shreds my brain, can't explain.
Want something technical bla bla.
Yellow gold, shimmers in the glass
Nose says something speccial going on in this glass.
