Nice bouquet of ripe cherries, red berries, jam, spices and a bit of mint and crushed stone. Wonderful palate, lush, jammy yet fresh, red berries, sweetness, minty and spicy notes.

Third bottle of a six-pack, and still on the upswing. Not that surprising, but there is still a lot of red fruit, as well as a lot of structure. If served blind I would have guessed maybe five years old, not thirteen. After a couple of hours it developed a deeper, meatier element, but overall still very young, and promising more for the future. Maybe check in again around 2028-2030.

Pop and pour bottle, at our boozy lunch over the long weekend. Immediately presented itself with lovely floral aromatics and ripe blackberries too. I guessed.. BdM 10 years.
Very concentrated with such ripe blackfruits, and grippy tannins on the mouthfeel too. Nose kept evolving through the afternoon, finishing with polished leather. This is such a complex wine which keeps improving!
SKT was right about guessing that this is a long-hang vintage. It seems in 2010, the estate did not finish picking until the first days of November due to a long, slow ripening season. The tannins are typically structured and rather hard. Oddly I did not find this so "un-ready", but I can't wait to try this in another 5 years.
Thanks Tay for sharing this at the Friends of Tong Woh gathering, celebrating Diwali at SKT and Chef LMK's house party, served with some incredible home cooking including Iberico pork and Angus Tomahawk steak too.

Tuscany WIMPS #169 29th September 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Briars, bonfire embers and a little ripe plum on the nose. Some salted cashew too. With air a little pear drop. Palate is compact but very pleasant. There are some sour cherry notes, good acidity and freshness

Dark black color with a clear meniscus. On nose, black cherry, rosemary, sour cherry and sweet savory tobacco. Palate had similar profile with medium+ body, medium+ acidity, medium tannins and very long finish. This wine has aged beautifully. Best of 5 bottles that I have had. 94-95 range.
Need to buy more recent vintages of this wine.

Still quite deep ruby red in colour. Deep and dark spicy cherry nose. Light touch of damp soil / sous bois on the nose. On the palate - Red and black cherries. Very long. Nicely spiced. Full bodied but with fresh mouthwatering acidity. Nicely resolved, but there is still a very present tannin structure. Cocoa. Nutmeg. Some earthiness on the end palate. This is very good, but still feels very young to me.
93-94 (I think will move to 94 with more age).

Summary: Piccolomini BDM was the best, Giodo/Macchiole/Sodi also delicious… Sodi continues to outperform it’s price. Flaccianello and Percarlo very tight and questionable even after a few days.
Cepparello: somewhere in the middle Giodo BDM: well done, towards the top of the tasting Piccolomini Santa Caterina BDM: best wine of the tasting, open for business, great fruit and finish. Sodi: as always, a price performer and holds up to the more expensive wines. Dark/ black-red color. On nose, Tart cherry, herbs, sweet cherry, glycerin and savory tobacco. On palate, full body, high acidity, smooth tannins and long finish. Flavor profile consistent with nose - didn't put formal rating and drank last weekend so won't put a numerical score. I really enjoyed this - initially it was very tight on the nose but it opened up nicely with air.

At Enoteca 1889, Woolloongabba. This wine was bottled under Stelvin and opened very fresh and zesty with a mid weight cherry red colour and a fine nose of red cherry, redcurrant, wild strawberry with touches of thyme and tobacco. The palate was very light on its feet yet intensely flavoured and persistent demonstrating a beautifully transparent character that contrasted with the Brunello Riserva that followed. Two sides of a high value coin !

Deep purple garnet color. Earthy nose of dark fruit. Medium full body. Rich fruit flavors of black currant, dark cherry, and plum combined with underlying flavors of licorice, cedar and cinnamon. The wine has a powerful tannic and acidic structure. Due to the pronounced, yet balanced fruit, the wine is pleasurable to drink now, but it's still 5 years away from its true drinking window, with another 15 years after that. This is a wonderful expression of Sangiovese at its best. Such a lovely world-class wine. Decant at least an hour before serving to aerate and filter for sediment.

Delicious, needs decanting to develop and best if I wait day 5 years for the next bootle. It has a very ‘house’ style , that is to say fairly consistent over vintages and I have bought and drunk several 2004s and they have developed wonderfully with character only hinted at in this bottle.

More enjoyable than my last tasting in 2/2018. Opened, but did not decant, 1 hour before tasting and enjoyed with dinner. Preferred to an '04 Aglianico it was tasted next to. This really needed air to shine and it opened up over dinner. Black/red color with slight gradient in color from rim to center. Scrub, sour cherry (only with lots of air), black cherry, dried cherry on nose. On palate, black cherry, mesquite, sweet cherry and nice herbal notes. Medium+ body, medium acidity/tannins and very long finish - 91+/- after 1 hour, 93+ with several hours of air. Need to buy some more recent vintages of this wine.

The most enjoyable wine I've had in some time. The structure of the fruit notes is excellent, with blackberry, blueberry, maybe some violet. The tannins are there and yes you could cellar this longer but it really is delicious right now.

Beautiful bottle of wine. Tart cherry nose. The palate shows lush fruit, dark cherries, hint of anise, chocolate. Some plum notes on the mid-palate. Fine tannins, largely resolved, crisp acidity, perfect balance. The wine is lovely in the mouth. Finishes long with tobacco, leather, cherries. In a great place right now but may improve for another 2 to 3 years and drink well for 5 to 8,

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium ruby colour, with fading rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of sour cherry, plum and raspberry, oak notes of vanilla, mineral notes of earth, sweet spice of fennel, pungent spice of licorice, kernel notes of coffee, maturity notes of gamey. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and dusty texture, medium (+) alcohol, with medium (-) body and medium (+) intensity flavours of red fruit of cherry and raspberry, oak notes of vanilla, mineral notes of saline, sweet spice of nutmeg. The wine has a medium (+) finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Tuscany Sangiovese with an intense nose showing good complexity, with ripe red fruit and vanilla notes, supplemented by some fragrant herbs and a nice coffee and earthy characters. The wine is elegant with finesse, having lively acidity and good dusty tannin, a fairly light body with good concentration of flavours and a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Nose: Initially very muted. However patience is a virtue - I left the glass on the side for an hour and retuning to it had a pleasing aroma emerging from the glass: vanilla, smoke, some meatiness, menthol, dark cherries, red plum and a saline minerality
Palate: oak is upfront with vanilla notes followed by juicy cherry and plum. High acidity and whilst tannins are very fine they’re still pretty punchy. Long finish.
Certainly complex but this isn’t as good as it can be just yet. I’d wait until 2023 before trying the next bottle.

Dark fruits, plum, cherry, menthol, herbaceous, oak obvious but not over-powering.
Sweet dark fruit on the tip of the tongue, good acidity, tannin still quite prominent so astringent but not unpleasant. Slight saltiness on the sides of the tongue. Complex.
Long finish, sweet dark fruits and tannin.
Lovely but all the components to be great. Try again 2023.

Wonderful wine. Such deep flavours with heaviness - light and silky on the palate. Dark plum, berries, cherries - all layers of dark fruits. Gentle vanilla oak and hints of herbs and spice. But it’s the depth and length of the dark fruits which rule here.

Lovely nose of blackberry and wild fennel, menthol too. Beautifully scented wine. To taste, cassis dominated but with herbs and a fair dose of tannin. Youthful but can be drunk now. Juicy ripe fruit. Superb and will be superlative once the tannins soften a bit. Needs another five years yet I think though the potential shines through already.

This wine has come around and is drinking great with at least an hour decant. Had this side by side with the 2011. The 2010 is more tannic and dry; but has a lot more depth and richness to it. The finish lasts forever. Drinks well now and will last for awhile. This is a great Sangiovese.

Decanted 4 hrs. Very dark crimson purple - intriguing nose of sweet red licorice mixed with 'Tesco's Finest sweet and fiery beetroot'. On the palate there is dark black fruit, sappy and fresh, like fresh cherries. At the moment just not that expressive so perhaps a bit young. By no means a wasted bottle but will be better in a year or two.
Day 2. Filled out and more rounded although still young. This is really excellent and will only get better. Yum!

I don’t drink a huge amount of Italian wine but I have several vintages of Ceparello and like it very much. Very drinkable now, plenty of fruit: cherry/black cherry and ample acidity. Not at all heavy with excellent balance. Will no doubt drink well for years to come.

Still very primary and fruity, but also has dusty, herbal, Stoney notes that make it interesting. Medium to full bodied on the palate, with solid acidity and moderate tannins. This has a ton of depth, and so lots of development potential, but it’s plenty fun now.

Deep, dark garnet in color; almost opaque. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, herbal notes of sage & rosemary, spices, leather, sandalwood, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, dense, ripe fruit flavors of tart cherries, blueberries & cranberries with spices, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing but it still has the potential for further development with additional aging. A lovely & polished Cepparello destined for a higher score with time.

Not as good as prior bottle (2/2016) but overall a nice bottle of wine. Blackish red in the glass. Black cherry, red currants and tart cherry on nose - nose not as expressive as palate, almost shut down. Cherry, tart cherry on the palate with some nice earthy undertones. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins and long finish. 91+/- today.

Dark ruby red color. Herbs, dried fruit, leather, sandalwood, earthy nose. Tannins evident on first swirl, red cherry, spice, cracked pepper, tight and slightly acidic. Shortish length. Not bad but not best considering vintage, earlier years better imo.

Eðalklúbbur, vínsmakk #3 haust 2017 (Bólstaðarhlíð 29): Nánast sami litur og á 2011 Cepparello. Svipaður ilmprófíll. Bara þyngri og þroskaðri og flottari. Þarna höfðu bæst við gúmmítónar, aseton og lakkrís. Bragðið var svo alveg geggjað. Mjög dökkt. Dökkir ávextir, brenndur bismark (fyrir þau sem muna eftir því), kaffi, steinefni og jarðartónar. Geggjaður bragðkokteill.

2010 ISOLE e OLENA CEPPARELLO TOSCANA- Sangiovese; this wine had a much different fruit profile than all those before it; with some talc and sandalwood upfront, some strawberry and bing cherry showed up and then dried out toward the end; it seemed to be in a strange place and not having any previous experience, I`m not sure what the norm would be; I had it tied for 4th and last in the blind flight and the others voted it tied for 3rd.

Hmmm, really lacking midpalate depth and fruit, instead feels lean and acidic. Not a bad wine but just nothing special. Wondering if time will help, but I doubt it. I generally love cepparello so this is a disappointment. Decanted and drank over 3 hours. Final judgement tbd but I'm pessimistic on this wine.

Decanted 3 hours to try and soften after my experience at the start of the year. This was too long and softened the wine too much. Everything in hints - vanilla the most dominant, black cherry, some dried herbs. Still prefer earlier vintages. Used to be Burgundian. This isnt. Generous 90.

A very young, but very serious wine, with black fruits, hints of herbs and coffee. The oak is still present, but presented deftly and in a refined manner; this will surely integrate. Layered, deep and long, and something that will age nicely.

Decanted for 3 hours and served with grilled skirt steak.
Blackish red color with no signs of age. On nose, rosemary, sour cherry (with airtime), black cherry, black olives & sage - very complex nose. On palate, black cherry (no sour cherry on the palate), tart cherry, herbal (sage / rosemary) flavor profile on palate - not as complex as nose at this stage. Silky palate feel with high acidity and medium+ tannins and long finish. Held up well over 48 hours.
I really enjoyed this and not at peak. 93-94 range.

2+ hours double decanted but still powerful black fruit and leather nose and a dark fruit, long concentrated palate with hints of Italian herb bitterness and some heat from alcohol. Very different from earlier vintages I know of this wine which I remember as softer, more elegant in style. Over time there is some violet and hints of cherry sweetness and a smoother feel but this is definitely a serious wine. Needs both food and air. Not Burgundian. With plenty of air a complex, brooding and impressive wine, clearly Italian, hints at the elegance of 2001 and 2004 but perhaps a bit overdone, at least for my palate.

Tasted from magnum, this was medium maroon with well developed nose of red fruits and savory meats. Bright, young, and full of life with mouthwatering acidity balancing the sweetness of the fruit/oak and the rustic savory notes. Probably still improving. Medium long.

Wow! I thought this wine might be too young to enjoy. I really loved it tonight with Mario Batali's meat ragu (pork and veal) on pappardelle. Clear dark garnet. Nose of earth, red and dark fruit, flowers, and herbs. Ripe palate of blackberry, cherry, plum, spice, and minerals. Superb length. mouthwatering acidity. Grippy young tannins that were softened by the robust meal.

Well this was a bit of overkill for pizza! I wanted to test out a bottle, and figured what the heck. The 2010 Cepparello is very suave and polished for a young Sangiovese. It's full of red fruit and a subtle spice. There's a warm herb element on the finish that keeps the wine balanced and fresh. I really like this, and may plow through a whole lot of bottles very quickly.

I only had a sip, but this is a great wine. Wonderful nose full of violets and red berries, while on the palate it is more earthy, mineral and with some herbaceouss notes - typical Tuscan flavors. While very young it is very enjoyable at the moment with impeccable tannins.

Medium ruby. Stunning nose of red and dark cherry, violets, mint, cinnamon, eucalypt, sage, liquorice, rosemary and noticeable high quality oak. Medium-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins, impressive fruit definition, balancing acidity and a long aftertaste. Very young but extremely enjoyable with huge aging potential. Sangiovese at its very best!

Sealed under screwcap this is really tight when first poured. It breathes up to show plenty of warm berry fruit coupled with a little spicy oak and some liquorice. It is dense and sappy and quite polished. The finish is carried by sweet, spherical tannins but one is left with a savoury impression once the wine is swallowed.

Medium density dull maroon almost to rim; some high toned new oak is up front on the nose but underneath there are lots of red and dark berry, plum, deep and interesting; soft mouthfeel, great berry and plum with nice acid to keep everything fresh, a bit of alcohol but well integrated, some latent tannin but drinking well now and should last 10+ years; lots of fat with great texture and ripe tannin; very well crafted wine.

First of a case, glass taken via Coravin.

Transparent dark crimson.

Yum!

Developing nicely. Fruit forward but balanced with oak, acid and tons of minerality and spice. Many good years ahead. Blew away several 2010 Brunellos we also tried at this sitting.
