This is likely drinking at the apex of its profile and will not likely improve further with aging. This was dark garnet and inky purple colored, medium full bodied, nicely balanced black cherry, currant and blackberry fruits with notes of tobacco, toast, spice oak, black tea and hints of cassis and pepper on a smooth lingering moderate tannin finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2020/12/domaine-de-beaurenard-cuvee-boisrenard.html

-- decanted 30 min. before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over a couple hours on Day 1; revisited on Day 2 --
NOSE: expressive; aging aromas; anise; old wood; earthy; much more dark-fruited than it is red-fruited; alcohol fumes a bit noticeable.
BODY: some sediment present; very dark purple-black color of medium-deep depth; there is some bricking throughout, but not much; medium to medium-full bodied.
TASTE: initially very bitter; alcohol pokes through a bit; dark-fruited, with anise on the finish; no brett; tannins resolved; medium-low to medium acidity; "dark". Day 2: a bit smoother and drier than yesterday; less bitter with air, but it remains very "dark", earthy; and still a little bitter. Drink Now.

Monthly Tasting Group: CDP's and Southern Rhones (Porter Creek, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color. Decanted for 2 hours and drank 1 glass over an hour. I was pretty happy with this tonight. Showing pretty classic CdP character with some funk, plenty of Provencal herbs, cherry, black cherry, violets, spice on the nose. The palate is medium full bodied, layered, dark cherry, kirsch, spice, licorice, nice tannins, medium plus finish. Fairly well balanced. I don't think this will be a lot better down the road.

Pop and pour; served at cellar temperature. Menthol and a bit of earth on the nose. On the palate, raspberry, blackberry, plum, and black and white pepper, with hints of iodine and olive tapenade on the medium to long finish, and good acidity. The peppery/spicy notes overshadow the fruit a bit; I have found this happening with other '04 Chateauneufs as they have aged. Not bad, but at the $50 price point it's easy to do better.

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 30 minutes --
NOSE: muted/tight; hint of paste; faint ripe cherry; a bit medicinal (cherry drops; cherry candy); hints of root beer or sassafras and celery salt.
APPEARANCE: medium particulate matter present; garnet color of medium-deep to deep depth.
TASTE: alcohol very noticeable; non-descript red fruits; not impressed; overall, this was shockingly not good --- not appreciably better than a quality Cotes du Rhone, and probably actually worse in some regards. I'm worried about my two remaining bottles --- hopefully a little more cellar time will round things out some, although I won't be holding my breath. There's also a chance the lack of pre-tasting air exposure for this bottle was detrimental ... maybe.

This was the clear winner of our New Years Eve CdP dinner. This one still has a long life left if you have it. Decanted for two hours before drinking. Dark red in color, big fruity nose, nice earthy notes on the complex nose. Cherry, peppery spice on the palate, tannins are well integrated but still very present. I just wish I found more than the one bottle.

NOSE: Australian black licorice; black cherry; a bit savory with a hint of smoke. Day 2: dark fruits - plum; pretty tight (tighter than Day 1); hint of leather.
BODY: medium bodied; fine particulate matter; magenta-ruby color of medium-deep depth.
TASTE: mirrors NOSE: black licorice; a bit spicy - oak; well-balanced; black cherry with a background hint of strawberry; 14.5% alc.; hint of leather; not funky; a bit tannic – good grip; medium-length finish (35-40 sec.). Day 2: tannic (moreso than Day 1); hint of anise; garrigue; bit more closed than Day 1, although the finish is a bit longer today (45-52 sec.); spicy; plums and figs; still needs serious time. Fine Vines Fall Grand Tasting (OneSixtyBlue, Chicago IL): nose: real deep and expressive nose of melted licorice, garrigue, dark red cherries and all sort of perfumes. Great purity on all of the tones and they really jump from the glass
taste: great and sexy medium feel of black fruits, garrigue, dark red cherries, dark red fruits and some real nice bits of perfumes as well. Good tannins give this a nice backbone
overall: This is looking like its starting to come into its window. Well balanced with a real suave and silky feel as well as great depth

Chaupin vs. Boisrenard: Clear black, red color with a purple rim. Aromas of dark berries, pepper and a bit of nail polish, very typical châteauneuf du pape style. Sweet fruit with some oak on the palate. Sour whole milk on the midpalate and more pepper on the finish. Good long taste. Nice young châteauneuf, that will benefit from cellaring.
