Light body. 13.5pct alcohol is which nice. Browning robe. Splash decanted for 3 hours and it needed every minute of it. Finally started to come into balance towards the end. Fruit is a bit thin, acidity a bit high although dissipates with time. Good with food but I wouldn’t go seek this out - poor QPR.

I imagine this is beginning to enter a more mature phase. Plenty of fruits but also lovely early maturity with leather, rides, tar etc. Medium-full bodied, this is a great wine, from a less than great vintage.

Biondi Santi Masterclass Shows bottle development of smoke, roasted walnut, wet leaves and forest floor with typical dry orange peel notes. Medium plus flavour intensity and long finish.

Nose was rather reticent at first, after an hr in the decanter really started to open. Dried florals, cherry, spice, a touch of charred wood, really nice nose, palate was elegant with good acidity, astringent tannin and great structure, classic/old school Brunello character, a real joy to drink and great with dinner. Just starting to show some maturity with the structure to age nicely. 92-93+

Birthday Drinks (Casa Esperanza): Decent, but not firing on all cylinders tonight. It did have a nice nose, with black cherries and plums, a touch of spice, and a little ferrous, bloody note, all underpinned by slightly savoury, earthy undertones. Quite classic Brunello notes. The palate took over where the nose left off, with more dark cherry and plum flavours wed to savoury hints of meat and earth, and then hints of spice and mineral towards the backpalate. This felt a little light at points - almost like a mid-weighted Rosso - especially at the finsih. Nevertheless, a pleasant wine, with a good dose of nicely bright Sangiovese acidity that gave it a yummy juiciness. At this point, enjoyable, but a tad simple. It should put on some weight and complexity as it ages a bit more.

A matter of taste - Day 2: *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory *** Glass: Stölzle Universal Nice, rather complex nose, fully open. Good Brunello with potential, smooth, good structure and length. But unfortunately nothing special and I highly doubt the price tag... 92-93

What is Better Than a By-the-Glass Lunch at Wally's? (Wally's - Beverly Hills CA): So interesting in context of the 1990 and 2013 Riservas I tasted last week. So much fruit here, with so much structure. While it was tough to tell which dominated, there is a superb "old school" character here that demanded my attention and wouldn't let go. Further upside from here.

Waited 7 years to drink! Bought directly from the Montalcino as a new release. Beautifully classic brown/red hue and strong fruity nose. Soft smooth first Brunello burst but a little light on the strong red berries typical of these wines. Hints to tobacco and currants. Finish is nicely earthy, lipsmackingly dry with a medium linger. 2009 wasn’t a fantastic year like 2010 so my expectations weren’t huge, but it is an excellent quality wine from an OK year by a producer that we expect to produce excellence.

Deep red berries, with hints of earth on the nose. On the palate high acidity, fairly soft tannin, with refined red fruits, long and elegant rather tha powerfull. Great food-wine.

On nose : medium+ intensity, dark fruit : cherry, good use of oak of smokiness, earthiness, tea leaves, tobacco, leather, still developing.
On palate: dry, high acidity but not overwhelming, medium+ flavour intensity, medium alcohol, a bit like Old Burgundy style, one may find some dry dark fruit, black tea flavour and earthiness on mid palate lingering inside, very elegant, with well integrated tannin and med+ finishing. A very high grade Brunello di Montalcino.
This wine is better to be drunk on its own without food. Drink slowly to enjoy the change from subtle of fruitiness style to territory aroma of elegance. This wine fully embody how great the Sangiovese could be made! Cheers!

Visiting Juliet. Tasted blind. After 1 hour of air in bottle already. Drank slowly over the next 1.5 hours. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of earth, red plum, sour red cherries, animal leather. Developing. On the palate, dry, very high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dusty Tuscan earth, sour red cherries, red plums, tomato juice, some emerging leather. Long finish. Very good quality. Initially quite tight but opened up nicely with more air time. Just entering its early drinking window. Positively Burgandian. Would not appeal to those seeking power. For the traditional purists. I was guessing this was 2005 Biondi Santi Brunello. My score may be on the generous side as I could be biased towards the style. But I also truly believe in the future potential of this bottle. Give it another 4-5 years of age and there will be some good development.

Coravined from a fresh bottle at a restaurant in Siena. Pretty rather than powerful, which is more to my liking. Fresh raspberry, hay, violet flavors. Nice acid, low tannins. Just a pleasure to drink now. I would still expect improvement for a few years but hard to wait. Quite good.

This is very fresh, some even find the acidity a bit too high (they will have to wait then), for me the red fruits, acidity and minerality are well in balance, but do you really need to open this one now? not of course 5-6y as a minimum before consider opening.

Looks quite evolved already for 2009 with hint of tawny in the core. Medium plus length with notes of spice and caoco at the end. Not particularly expressive on the nose for the moment. Dried cherry, herbal, with very slight hint of oak. Probably in an awkward stage right now. Could still use some bottle ageing.

A touch oxidised and a bit of a rusty metal feel. The seasons upright in Cortina have not helped this wine on that front albeit the fruit feel of it was very much there. Will refrain from rating this time.

Dark ruby. Nose of cherry, raspberry, rose, and liquorice. Pure red fruit on the palate. Soft and round, with minimal tannins. I would prefer another bottle or two before passing judgement, but this isn't exciting. Drink now. (Bottle 20712)

Brunello di Montalcino: frutto in gelatina prima di tutto, poi netta la nota minerale complessa tra terra, bosco e pietra bianca, sapone balsamico e una leggera nota alcolica. Medio. In bocca è succo d'arancia puro!

Young, but I would guess for more potential than 2008, but not sure if it is on 2007 level.
