  • 2010 Barolos at Terra Rossa with NLWTS (Terra Rossa, Upper Street): Ruby. Such a pronounced, vibrant red-fruited nose. Sweetly spiced. Tannins astonishingly well rounded as is the wine as a whole; difficult to grab hold of or isolate any particular element! Really a pretty unique experience for me. Deteriorated somewhat in the glass; the ‘gloss’ wore away and it tasted harsher and harsher. No idea why; I initially gave it a 95.

  • 2010 Barolo (Terra Rossa, N1): Fresh, vibrant red fruit. Super clean and energetic with hints of toasted spices accentuating the primary fruit. So aromatic and joyful, albeit with a sense of restraint. It gives the impression that Burlotto has taken pure Nebbiolo fruit of exceptional quality and done as little as possible to mess around with it. Stylistically it's like the best Langhe Nebbiolo you've ever had. Yum!

  • Drinking very well after several hours of air. Excellent balance, lovely fruit with earth and rose petal on the nose.

  • Zalto Burgundy glass. Half the bottle poured into half-bottle, the other half leaft to breathe for six hours. Wonderful harmonious nose with great presence and notes of tar, black fruits, medicine and dust. Quite a lot of alcohol (I prefer it at 13 to 15 degrees) and some tannin. Easy to drink now as Barolo goes but presumably with a long future.

  • Nose with sweet tones and minerality: iron. Good palate, structure and grip acidity. Alcohol sharp finish. Okay but not a winner now. Will be better in 5-10 years time.

  • Needed decanting as it was much better 6 hours after opening - transformed, seemed even fresher. Sappy. Ripe red fruit with tea, orange, tobacco and spice. High alcohol makes its presence felt , but not to its detriment.Super soft texture and tannins. Long.

  • In a nice place. Double decanted. Nice nose, excellent balance on the palate with dark fruits and some earth. Not profound, but a great companion to a meal.

  • Less profound nose than earlier bottles, fruit and tanins still master class

  • On day one it's way too young: fruity, tannic but not Barolo class. Kept in the fridge and drank again on day three. Better but still young. Red fruit, licorice and some sweetness. Hold for some years but it will never be world class Barolo.

  • A relief after a couple of not up to par-performances by the 2009 vintage. This is very young (duh ...) and will develop wings to spread. Still fine today after a couple of hours in the decanter. Classic Burlotto strawberries rather than raspberries go with leather and licorice. Tannins are ripe and absolutely there to give backbone. Nice acidity and a fine balance. Initially, I jot down a questionmark behind some greenish notes, but they work with and integrate and go towards licorice/tar/fennel with time in the glass. 91-93 given the potential.

  • Very elegant wine. Rushed down buying 3 more bottles. Approachable even so young and with a fantastic complex nose of mainly roses. Light in colour, but strong and a long taste. Tanins are present but behind a silky and well integrated burgundy style taste. Wine has a good overall balance. Only minus is a sour aftertaste.

  • A beautiful aroma, although dark. This had a good deal of roses, soot, dark fruit, and cherry with fine tannins and nice balance. Despite it being so young, it's already showing some beautiful floral character on the palate and while there's a hair of heat on the end, time will take care of that. Should be a rockstar in a 15+ years.

  • Five days in Barolo: A visit at Comm. G.B. Burlotto with winemaker Fabio Alessandria (Verduno, Piedmont): A blend of all the Verduno Crus. Fabio says, "This is made in the old philosophy of the Barolo Riserva. We select the part of the vineyard where we believe the grape achieved the perfect maturity and we try to do the best blend for the vintage. A little bit from Breri, a little bit from Monvigliero, Boscatto, a little Neirane and every year the plan is different. In 2010 it's mostly Monvigliero. In 2009 only 20% was Monvigliero. So every year we try to do the best blend for the vintage."

The nose is so beautiful. Very nice fruit on the nose here, showing exuberant fresh cut strawberries and raspberries. Soft, light minerals as well, offering awesome brightness. Very beautiful textural palate entry, offering nice freshness. Good acidity and nice moderate minerality. Nice dial up of intensity and acidity on the finish with a lovely raspberry jam component. Quite pretty. Nicely, instead of a wall of tannin, you get these amazingly fine grained tannins that are wonderfully integrated with the fruit. These Barolos are so singular in their beautiful approach... I just love the soft, rich, fruit filled elegance of this. Probably for more near term consumption (say, 15 years) than the Monvigliero. These are actually fairly drinkable today. A gorgeous, unique expression of Barolo. Fabio says, "You can wait, you can drink... though for 2010 you should wait two years."

  • {Visit to Burlotto} The color is slightly darker than the Classico. The nose, slightly more intense, with an unmistakable herbal and woodsy edge at first. With time, leather, spice, balsam and floral notes emerge. Finally, after 15 minutes in the glass, some sweet red fruits emerge, but they're cheeky; this needs time. With the class of tannins and acidity here, not to mention the underlying fruit, great things are in store for this wine. 14,5% abv., best 2022-2039. recommended
