At restaurant in Singapore, BYOB. More than serviceable but has lost the zing of a young BdB made in a tight and energetic style as Agrapart's. There was a distinct honeyed and nutty upfront note giving way to a rather compact and muted palate. I bought this at auction and cannot positively conclude this is natural evolution for this wine or rather a consequence of suboptimal storage. I will revisit and benchmark with a 13 of different provenance as I am very curious to find out if Agraparts can be long term agers. Eclipsed on the night by a '15 disgorgment Egly VP.

Dinner at Iki Ramen vol.II (Iki Ramen, Los Angeles CA): This is lovely, balanced, and poised with rounded tones of red apples, minerals, spiced pears, yellow florals, quince, baking spices, vanilla, and some dough notes. There is good depth with a refined sense to the nose as well. The Medium bodied feel is deft and balanced with crisp, high acidity. The acidity is showing off excellent integration right now as it is there but more in a supporting role. This feels like it is right in its zone. There is still good freshness to the citrus tones, though they are much more rounded and more in the yellow spectrum.

A year ago I had a sub-par bottle of this and wondered if the wine was fading. Then I had a pristine bottle a few months after that. This time again the wine was subpar, it showed nothing like what it's does at its best, none of the energy and bright acidity and chalkiness. It was flat and heavy and just not right. I served it blind next to the 08 Avizoise to some experienced tasters and they reacted exactly as you'd expect to a wine that wasn't right. I went through 6 bottles of this wine and 2 were off, not flawed, just sub-par, so those aren't great odds...

Gorgeous - my previous bottle was off in some way. This one was glowing with vibrant lemon cream, ginger, and vanilla aromas, rich and layered and entirely focused. Saline and chalky, especially on the finish. There’s a textural presence and a depth to this wine that is just all class.

Not at the level of previous bottles. Does Champagne go through a dumb phase? In any case, this wine was perfectly fine, but not much better. And I've had it at least three times in the past and been blown away each time. On this occasion the wine never fully opened although open for 10 hours. Delicate aromas of citrus fruit, toast, some vanillin. Inarticulate though, without detail or pungency. The wine feels focused and has energy, but seems like it's middle section was removed. My take is that I caught it in an in-between phase in it's life, or that this bottle was imperfect. Who knows...
I loved this, and might have caught it at its apogee. There’s great synergy of creaminess and crispness, sweet pastry and sour citrus, hazelnut and minerals, tension and polish. Gorgeous nose, palate, and finish. There’s nothing more to say, but Cheers! I can’t wait to try the Venus and Avizoise lost somewhere in the cellar.

Sunday afternoon wines (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Quite thin and lean on the palate, to the point I asked, is this Laval? It's odd that from my last experience with this wine I thought it was pretty great. To be sure, it's not really an acid bomb, but it is a lot leaner than what my last note seems to imply (I'm pretty inconsistent with my prior history today, it seems).

Firm, chalky, dry, pronounced acidity. There's quite a stong umami smell with spices, also toasted bread. Develops a very interesting finish of tasty, ripe gooseberries. Classy wine.

Trimbach etc. at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): Lot Mai 2009, disgorged September 2014. This is a really rounded edition of this wine, and I really like that aspect of it. On top of that, this still has all that great acidity that you want, so this really does tick all of the boxes here. This is emphatically not one of those acid bombs: the fruit leaves a slight hint of sweetness that really helps on that front.

Very closed and seems to have barely budged in 10 years. This is an incredibly backward 2008 and nowhere near as tasty as the '07 at the same stage of development. Strong hold.

Disgorged February 2015. All Chardonnay from Avize and Cramant. One of my favourite Growers. 2008 is a top vintage for Agrapart. However, it's not a house style for everyone, you have to like the racy, mineral, low dosage style (here the 5 glrs dosage seems lower). Pear, lemon zest, green apple and wet limestone aromas. Also a little grapefruit and leesy autolysis. In the mouth, it's bone dry, almost like a sparkling Chablis. Ripping acidity but fully ripe, rich fruit. Mineral and citric with crisp apple, tinned pears and wet river boulder. Also, suggestions of a little honey and baking spice on the finish. Ideally, I'd still give it another 2-3+ years to further mature.

Absolutely gorgeous. Best version I've had of this cuvee, by quite a ways. Vibrant and energetic, with fruit that feels ripe and lush and also entirely focused and balanced with acidity. Complexity, depth, a resonant chalky finish - this is simply excellent, joyous, fascinating, wonderful wine.

Agrapart Mineral BdB Extra Brut 2008 (600kr), 12%. Flasket mai 2009, degosjert september 2014
50/50 blend av 40 år gamle vinstokker fra Avize og Cramant. Full malo. Over 5 år på bunnfallet. Dosage 6g/L.
Litt bredere over skuldrene og mer fremtredende autolyse i munn.

2008 Champagnes: Disgorged in March 2013. Dosage is 4 grams per litre. Almost as deep in colour as the Bouchard. I’d had the Agrapart before but in the context of the other three Champagnes was surprised it was so oxidative. The best bouquet of the four wines, lovely and expressive with citrus, chalk, oyster shell and clotted cream. Lots of candied fruit and orange peel on palate, but not the focus I expected, compared with the Bouchard. Bigger and broader than the Bouchard. Rated 3=/4. From my previous tasting my expectations were high, so I was mildly disappointed with this showing. Perhaps it needs a few more years (it looks to have the stuffing to cellar)? Hold for 3-5+ years.

From the list at Ripple. Super-tasty bottle of Champagne. Labeled Extra Brut, but it doesn't taste like it - the fruit is so much more luscious and luminous than those typical screechy extra bruts. It has a very pure blanc de blancs profile, I dunno if I'm getting much of the "Mineral" from underneath that, but the primary character is enough to make this a real joy of a bottle.
