Red-fruited with a middling dollop of the dark cherry/kirschwasser aromas that S Rhone Grenache usually provides. Balanced, smooth, with just a little heat showing, it exemplifies what I like about CdP.

In a difficult year for Grenache this is really very good - in the middle of its drinking window. I do admire Charvin for his straightforward range (no super cuvees) and consistent quality.

Quick note: although still quite youthful, this is drinking wonderfully at present, with delightful notes of fresh herbs, sandalwood powder and an impression of stoney minerals on the nose. Cherry fruits on the palate are buffered by refreshing acidity and chalky tannins and the plus close. Keeps getting better with aeration, just an impressive CdP and one that is only entering the beginning stages of the ideal drinking window - should be an absolutely fabulous (if not truly epic) drinking experience in 3-5+ years while holding steady for many more to come.
edit: to think this was $40 on release... *sigh*

This really contradicts the often rather austere vintage with its lack of Grenache: this is light, elegant, very Burgundian, vibrant with plenty of red fruit Stil a young wine, many years to go here. #pensiondanmark

Understanding this was an “off” year for CDP, I knew not to expect high level Charvin here, but I was still somewhat disappointed at how very “average” this wine was. Fairly unchanged on day 2 after Vacuvin, that means it’s likely not going anywhere (up or down) for a couple years. I enjoyed my 2013 Chateau St Jean entry level bottling more, at 60% of the price. 90 points, yeah, but underwhelming.

Tasted over 3 hrs -med dark red -kirsch candied spiced plum -med acidity, med/med- weight yet with a sappy roundness, pine kirsch spice cake, finishes with noticeable heat that adds some astringency to the med+ tannins -lightweight this vintage but unfortunately doesn't gain elegance because of it, while this is decent now it was better on release, unclear what will happen to it with additional time

Liqueur-like red and black berries with notes of black pepper and earth, with light tannins and good acidity. This is elegant rather than powerful. It's a very good value at a little over $40.

Tasted over two days - much better on day 2. Intriguing wine. Open with some of the vintage's somewhat uninviting, but with air, it opens. This is certainly not a Grenache-vintage (mr. Cambie made no neuf this year - for the same reason), yet this is good, has a Northern feel. Extremely elegant and minerals, one day this will make someone guess great Burgundy. Hold.

14.5% abv. I had some congestion from allergies when I opened this so was not getting the full scent of the wine. On the palate I got pleasant sensations of dark cherries and berries. It has some grip and a lingering finish. This wine seems to be nicely poised between being easy drinking and having a bit of structure. In my estimation it doesn't need a lot of aging to be enjoyable. but I may keep my second bottle for a couple more years.

Had next to the 2014 Raymond Usseglio CDP Cuvée Impériale and they were very similar with the fig cake, garrigue and earth notes but the charvin fruit was a little more forward but not in a bad way just more lush and layered. Delicious wine that paired well with the entire meal.

From 350ml, open for business tonight. Convincing brambleberry nose, lovely acidity, clearly a notch above the average CdP from first whiff. Finishes hot without food, like anything with 14.5% from a less-than-perfect vintage, so just reach for a hunk of cheese or dark chocolate and you won't notice. 92+ potential from 750 and larger with more age.

Opens with a burst of herbs and flowers and ripe black fruit. Fairly rich but not massive, plenty of acidity for CDP and not super-concentrated, with slightly rustic tannins, with a long, black/kirsch fruit finish. With air it picks up a strong cured meat note that might be Brett that comes to forefront. Had this with a steak but this really cries out for a gamier meat, something like lamb stew.

Cierta mineralidad. Garnacha, Monastrell y Syrah.

2013 Chateauneuf: Such bright aromatically, with rich cherries, tart pomegranate, some earthy, savory aspects (mushroom, black pepper). Rich but silky and bright on the palate, with lots of earth, smoke, pepper and tar. Elegant despite the richness, so long and floral, tons of tapenade. Pure, vibrant and refreshing despite the tension and long life ahead. Gorgeous stuff, will be stunning in five or eight years.
