Red raspberry, boysenberry, leather, tobacco, sage alcohol on the nose. Red fruits, herbs with a tart finish. The alcohol is quite noticeable in the mouth (16.4%) and the fruit has faded. My last bottle, definitely past its peak. Tasted alongside the 2013 Ueberroth

Opened and poured. Very dark...very jam-centric zin. Nice sweetness as the last several Turley's have been too hot and overbearing, lacking true zin characteristics. This one showing maturing blacks and dark reds - boysenberry, blackberry, dense woven textures. Nice bottle.

Blackberries, black cherries and blueberries with licorice and earthiness in the nose. This is a big alcoholic zinfandel with rich black fruits and a long finish. Deep, jammy fruit in the flavor with pepper and spice. The only downside is the 16.4% alcohol is definitely obvious in the finish and is a bit of a detraction, but still a very nice wine.

What a nose! Ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit aromas mixed with baking spice, star anise and dusty earth. Big, but bright, chewy and energetic, showing some tangerine peel, black pepper, brambly fruit and yes, heat on the finish. Other than the alcohol on the back end, this is about as good as zin gets.

PnP - be careful of light sediment. Still in reasonable shape, but showing its age. Some red fruits and earth on the nose. A medium plus bodied palate of red fruits, earth, spice, and some black pepper. The acidity was quite juicy, and overwhelmed the fruit by a bit, and the 16.4% abv was slightly noticeable on the finish -- both of which lead to a "drink soon" conclusion.

Crimson in color. 16.4% ABV. Heady nose of ripe red fruits, licorice and pepper. Full bodied with ample acidity. There is certainly some heat on the palate but it is not too distracting. Flavors of raspberry liqueur, tawny port, black cherry and pepper. Tremendous length on the finish. I can appreciate the wine in the glass buy my preference is to a Zin with slightly more elegance and restraint. Despite that we had no problem finishing the bottle. Best over the next year.

Cracked this in the depth of the polar vortex. Needed a big wine to reward my patience for staying inside with the kids for three days. 16.4% but wears it well. Initial nose very inviting dark berry profile. Wine is layered, this is a good vintage for Ueberroth. Black coloring in the glass, touch of evergreen and dried herbs, but this is really about the fruit. Better on day 1 than day 2, reco enjoy upon open to get the benefit of what the fruit is showing. Ready now.

Lots of blackberries and garrigue on the sweet nose. Layers of structured black raspberry and minerals. A slight impression of sweet oak. decent complexity on the finish. Probably will last a few more years with good storage, but don't wait too long! Make sure you decant - recommend an hour+. Also, kept the temp below 70.

On the nose, ripe dark berry jam, sweet black tea. Super soft tannins, almost non existent - a little unbalanced here. Lots of fruit, long spicy and acidic finish. Overall, we really enjoyed - easy drinking but really well made wine

Spectacular - one of my favorite Turley Zins. In a beautiful place right now, great balance of fruit and earth, light acidity, long finish. Sad that this was my last 2012...
Decanted, had some slight sediment. Give it some air - initial tight tartness really opens up after 30 minutes or so.
Completely "fills" the mouth, but not an overly sweet fruit bomb. Balance of earthy cedar tones and white pepper. Delicious.

This is the exact wine/vintage that sold me on Turley in their Paso tasting room shortly after its bottling. Please let this warm up to room temp in the glass. You will be rewarded. Black tea nose, cherries, great clean chalky smooth mouthfeel, mild astringency with white pepper, lingering and lingering with it's 60+ second firmly acidic finish. The white pepper just sits in the back of your throat going, Yeah! I wish I had held this another few years but my friend Freddy at Au Vieux Paris d'Arcole in Paris needs me to make a candle out of this bottle for him! It'll be there soon, Freddy!

Purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this wine was decanted and serially tasted over a three hour period. During this time, the serving temperature was maintained at 60-65°F. Deep ruby in color, it offers aromas of dark bramble fruits, black pepper and licorice, along with distinct raisin/prune notes. The overripe fruit dominates the palate, as does the wine's heady alcohol (listed as 16.4%). At this stage, the tannins are medium in weight and smooth-textured. Solid in the middle, it concludes with a medium-length finish that has a strong whiff of alcoholic heat. To my palate, this Zinfandel is out of balance and would have best been consumed at an earlier date. Drink now.

Right there with Parker....classic Turley zin. Brambly, red, light spice, just a fantastically clean, beautiful wine. If there were only 1 zin in my collection, this would be it, but unfortunately, I am only allocated so many bottles a year....you can't go wrong with this juice!

Cranberry red with good clarity and bright edges and slow legs with tight, even spacing. Smells like a hedonistic candy bomb with cognac macerated berries and cherries. Serving at 62* there's a nice cascading acid streak that widens to a plush mouth coating cherry and roasted red peppers kinda thing. The nose brings campfire roasted marshmallows and spicy blackberry after a big sip. Notes of menthol and licorice come around with a few minutes in the wild. The well-masked 16.4% hits with some power pretty quickly. This will go well with dinner if there's any left.

some are passionate about this bottling and i don't begrudge them... but it's not my thing. so much big, round, fruit. fruit is in balance with the alcohol (over 16) but for me, not enough structure or interest behind/around the oversize berry fruit. kind of an exaggeration of zinfandel. i'm not sure if i want more of "something else" (tannin/spice/acid) to balance it out, or I just want less fruit... probably the latter.
Fun to try this but I've scratched the itch.

Exuberant nose of spices, tropical red fruits, caramel, spice, even some cocoa. Rich and high in alcohol but it manages to remain balanced, gracefully gliding down the palate.

Just as good as the bottle we had over a year ago. Candied red fruits, herbs and pepper. A bit on the sweet side. Long satisfying finish. Great as a last bottle or possibly during the dessert course. Love it for what it is.

Please see notes on 2013 Ueberroth. Also, about the third bottle of this wine for me and I strongly disagree wit others who have said no fruit or no remarkable fruit. Again guys, the trick with Turley zinfandel (of which I have drank more than my share over the last decade) is to drink this cuvee slightly chilled; i.e., 57 t0 60 degrees at the start.
Spicy and racy. Could use another year to calm down a bit. But the bursting red raspberry, strawberry, spice, and acidity make it enjoyable now. Not for the tame of heart.

Poured just a little out of bottle and slow-oxed for three hours. Took to a fantastic party. This was a Zinfandel? Penetrating dark fruit on the nose with nuances of burnt raspberry jam. (I know-strange wording for a smell-but the best I could come up with) Taste: Rich, dark balanced fruit supported by perfect acidity. Mouth coating-impressive. I think the extended period it was open helped as it was about hour four or five people started tasting it. Simply a wonderful wine. Dave

Two hour decant. Fantastic wine. Dark color. The nose is great. Bright and fruity, balanced for a big wine, and a mouth full. Dark fruit flavors. Slightly tannic but very fine and well integrated. Can be consumed now with a little air. Would score in the 93-95 range.

Enjoyed at the winery along with Pesenti. We enjoyed Ueberroth a little better than Pesenti. Has more of a sweetness to it than the Pesenti but still shows structure and tannins. Excellent Zin and our favorite Turley so far!

A bit better than my last bottle. Deep purple, with plums, pepper and spiced berries. The alcohol is well buffered by the sap and rich pulpy fruit, yet this doesn't cross into the sweet and syrupy side of things. Lingering finish with good energy and lift. Great pizza wine.

I served this in my wine course. Darker, lower pitched nose than the Rattlesnake. Blackberry compote with a very slight touch of spice. Similar mouth feel as the Rattlesnake, but loads more acidity. This seems like it has several years left to it, but is very enjoyable right now.
P.S. Came back to this and raised the score another point. As much as I like the Rattlesnake, this is even better!

This was a pop and pour, and perhaps this needed a bit of air. There is quality fruit here, but for me, the alcohol is too elevated. A glycerin-like texture in the mouth with noticeable heat on the finish. I will revisit tomorrow. Thankfully this came into balance on day 2, with the alcohol receding and fruit becoming a bit more fleshy. With lots of air, this became a very nice foil to a pizza dinner.

(Tasted at the Turley Pickup Party and tied with the 2012 Pesenti as wine of the tasting) What the '12 Pesenti has in sheer juicy exuberance the Ueberroth has in elegance. A profound offering that invites you to lean back and reflect. Dark, dark red in the glass with wonderfully proportioned legs. A harmonious blend of blackberry, apricot, cedar, rosemary and lavender flavors that are not showy in the least. The enjoyment is in this wine's restraint. The longer you reflect on this beauty in the glass, the more she reveals of her charms. A great wine that enchants with her seamless quality. How do you get Zinfandel grapes to behave this well?

Right there with Parker....classic Turley zin. Brambly, red, light spice, just a fantastically clean, beautiful wine. If there were only 1 zin in my collection, this would be it, but unfortunately, I am only allocated so many bottles a year....you can't go wrong with this juice!

Always a favorite and this bottle didn't disappoint. Same as previous notes with a little more secondary flavors coming forward compared to its youthful fruitiness.

a perfectly fine wine... but nothing special, bright red fruits, somewhat thin, never really developed additional depth or spice over 4 hours consumed , poor qpr

Fantastic expression of old vines. Ripe fruit with excellent acidity maintaining balance. Cranberry, raspberry, plum and crushed stone.

A well contained wine that is surprisingly nimble given its alcohol. A quiet, cranberry nose gives way to the full (but not jammy) fruit.

Showing bright fruit on the nose with a note of spice. The fruit on the palate is racy and lush with ceader notes. The finish is amazing at this time.
