Beautiful and luxurious bouquet with oak, some smoke, dark berries and vanilla. On the palate dark berries, some sweet chocolate, sweet spices, lovely and mild acidity and round and soft tannin. Great length. Lovely wine in the first half of its maturity stage.

I guess I have a different take than others. A beautiful wine, but I felt it is quite subtle because everything is in harmony. I would not describe as full, but rather so well balanced that no one facet stands out over the other. Tannins, acidity all coordinated so that none is prominent. Make sense?

Shared at a dinner party with six people. Served with lamb, which was an ideal pairing. This is a beautiful wine with wonderful flavor, subtle tannins and not overwhelmed by alcohol. It is fruit forward with lots of red fruit nuance that lingers on the palate. Nice finish. The wine drinks perfectlly now - I don't think it will get better - but it should sit nicely in a cellar for several more years.

Well I'm kinda the debbie downer here. While I did like the wine enough and feel its well made and clean, it seemed a tad too hot and oaked/spoofed for my tastes. Very purple. Purple. So purple. 100% Tinto fino should have some red fruits right? Toasted wood, BlackBerry, vanilla. Not bad just not my thing I guess.

Dark and fairly opaque ruby, intensely rich aroma of dark red fruits -- wow, this smelled spectacular on first swirl! Although I wasn't positive what I was tasting flavor wise, I got a strong, almost inky richness -- but at the same time not being pounded over the head with tannins. Balanced intensity, with some black pepper spice in the mix. Highly recommended.

Decanted and enjoyed over two evenings with sausage, mushrooms, peppers and onions. Dark ruby color, full bodied, and medium plus alcohol. Powerful with developing, and intense balance of black and red fruit; emerging complexity of primary, secondary, and tertiary aromas and flavors; all underscored with fine grained tannins and fresh acidity. Finishes long and smooth. Still early in the drinking window; this should cellar for at least another ten years. Outstanding.

Softened considerably since my last bottle. A well integrated amalgamation of plum and mixed peppers. Certainly nothing out of balance, but was a little too tame to be very interesting. Texture was great but needing some secondary aromas to reach its next peak. It did not taste particularly “modern” anymore, and if anything I prefer this bottling slightly younger when it is a little more striking.
Day 2 was helpful. Some subtle secondary development starting to show. Bumping up one point.

really solid and amazing. maybe a 96. great value. a little more fruit than other Spanish wines, but the right balance of old world and layers of earth...well-integrated tannins. strong, stalwart body with good complexity and structure.
Dark purple color; intense fruity nose, some alcoholic burn; smooth, lovely, intense and deep, slightly tannic with a dry ending, long lingering aftertaste; on the heavy side with plenty of alcohol, but really nicely tasting with good fruit

Deep ruby red. Layered nose with dark fruits and spices. Notes of blackberries, anise, dark cocoa, earth and herbs. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium bodied. Very dark palate with quite a bit of dark fruits. Layers of dark cocoa and dark berries, both red and black. Solid acidity and a touch dry in the finish. Long finish. Drink till 2027. (92+)

Very nice upon opening, big nose of rich cherries and rocks, a very pleasing fruit forward wine with softer tannins and black berry and chocolate. But on the second day it shut down and became more bitter, with a slightly astringent finish. First time I've had this happen with an RdD. Definitely would recommend otherwise.

Another well-produced Aalto. It the not heaviest Aalto and with a certain finesse. There is less concentration which is ok for me and normally I am not to complain about lack of depth but I was surprised that this wine was not deeper. The nose is a bit confused on this wine, with a medium intensity of dark, brooding fruits, slight reduction (rubber), some sappy, herbal influences and a lot of heavy, heavy oak. It seems quite muted and I suspect this might not be an ideal bottle.
The palate is dry with medium+ acidity, high alcohol, full body and medium+ quite grippy tannins. The intensity is good and the finish is a little short, medium+ and medium respectively. This wine seemed both muted and over-oaked, although I will give it another shot in a better vintage before writing off the producer.
A good quality Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, Spain.

Opaque ruby/purple turning violet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose is expressive and effervescently perfumed with saline minerals on the background of ripe dark berries, floral scents and smoke. The palate is dense, well-structured with a velvety texture. At the onset, intense flavors meet you and tell you that this wine is built for power, yet balanced by an elegant mouthfeel (when tannin eventually resolves). Flavors of blueberry, blackberry, licorice, plum and dark chocolate coat the palate on fleshy, mineral-filled tannin that require some aeration time but will come through beautifully. Finishes long with notes of smoke and dried herbs. Drink now with a 2-3 hour decant or better from 2017 to 2032.

This is definitely a 90-wine quality wise. Personally I've had wines around 85 that I have enjoyed more. Incredibly modern with dense dark fruit and expensive oak. Blackcurrants, liquorice, blackberries, cherry candy, butter, fudge, and a touch of vanilla.
Medium(-) acidity, high intensity, medium+ body with a slightly bitter, dry finish that last quite a while.
Nothing wrong at all with this wine, but it could have been made in any warmer region. I think we were everywhere. Ending up with Barossa Shiraz or Napa Cab.

Retailer tasting (Vianen): In the bouquet ripe dark fruits like blackberries and some herbs and spices. Dark red purple color; dark red fruit in the nose; lots of dark intense fruit and power, some finesse, quite young and also quite tight (a lot actually); seems promising but too young right now to really enjoy (tight and tannic)

Opaque, quite purplish colour. Nose with quite ripe blackberries, some liquorice, violets and perfume notes, and some vanilla. Medium+ body, again ripe blackberries with some berry sweetness, good concentration of fruit, fine acidity, the tannins are quite enveloped in the mid-palate fruit giving the wine a velvety character. The aftertaste shows a bit more tannic bite, as well as juciy berries and some spice. A modern-styled Ribera that is quite approachable now, but experience shows that Aalto definitely gains in complexity from cellaring. 90+ pts.

On the palate ripe dark and red forest fruits, sweet spiciness, herbs, some pleasant sweetness, good acidity and soft tannin. A very tempting wine. Already open for business and it will drink nicely until at least 2020.

Ready to drink now. Purple, medium body and lots going on. Great with filet in Munich w/R and L.

Overtly spicy, but quite nice.

90+ pts.
