Delicious. Full bodied, lots of complex integrated fruit, smooth, probably big enough to drink on its own but very good with food. Nice finish. Was unimpressed with the '02 about 6 months ago so maybe I shouldn't wait that long.

Revisiting this bottle, my last, and I wish I had much more
Dark purple, full bodied Loads of dark fruit off the nose, vanilla and oak (subtle). All spice Silky smooth. Perfectly balanced. Unctuous. Sublime. So good, even better than my last bottle. More refined now. Taste follows the nose. Hints of cocoa, and tons of dark berries. Absolutely spectacular wine in its window. Case worthy. Great QPR.

A big, bruising wine. Currant, blackberry opening--not over the top. Then unsweetened chocolate bitterness. Still tons of unresolved tannin and acid. Good wine, but, maybe not commensurate with the tarriff.

Dark ruby in color. Medium to full bodied in weight Lots of remnants of black fruit, light oak, leather, cigar box Wonderfully balanced. Soft. Smooth tannin, tertiary characteristics are showing. Longish finish. Lots of subtle nuances. This has aged very nicely. An excellent wine with a matching QPR.

At PnP, this was a hot mess, with acidic red fruits, menthol and tart cherry. Calmed down after 90 min. No oak or tannins in play. Plum, red berry fruit and black cherry, some secondary earth and herbal notes starting to show up. Plenty of acid left, so no hurry to drink, but I really don’t think this gets better. My guess is that it’s in its window and will plateau there for another 5 years. YMMV

Another winner from the 2012 Vintage and wine that just “melts in your mouth.” Okay, it’s a liquid so that may be hard to imagine, but the aromas and the flavors of the wine were absolutely flawless. That Napa Valley Cab flavor of dark rich fruit and the tremendous balance of softer tannins and oak that finish with a long lasting and satisfying finish. Another great wine from an even greater producer.

In typical Lewis form, another massively fruit forward Cabernet with rich, layered blackberry fruit and secondary notes of currant, dark chocolate, mocha and vanilla. The finish just goes on and on while opening up and becoming even more expressive after an hour decant. This wine has lots of life left in it but drinking beautifully right now.

Probably one of the best cabs that my wife and I have ever drunk! Its color?.....dark and foreboding; its nose?...unbelievably sensuous & full; its initial taste?.... spectacular! Dark fruit, with a hint of cherry; perhaps a hint of tobacco, but big and sumptuous. We both looked at each other and couldn't believe how smooth and flawless it was. Nice acids, beautifully integrated with layers of complexity indicating that much had occurred for this to be such a complete bottle of wine. Its texture & tannins were smooth on our palates with a delightfully long finish! I don't feel as though I am adequately describing how much we enjoyed this wine. We have never had a Lewis cab before, but I can guarantee you, it will not be our last!

PnP with decant and follow over 2 hrs. Good on open and good all the way. Early oak faded with chalky tannins playing into a core of some red but mostly black fruit with spice box notes. Delicious and always a go to solid performer. Something in me keeps wanting to not like like this, but this is a solid choice year after year after year.

Popped and poured but I needed to look at the label a second time to make sure that this was Lewis. This 2012 was quite acidic with tart notes and somewhat flat, it clearly needed air. Gradually it came around showing a nice nose, color with fruit starting to show but still showing acidity which seems to be the case with many Cabs of 2012 that I have tasted. This wine was definitely better with food and showed considerable improvement with rack of lamb. This Cabernet went from about 90 points without food to about 92+ Points with a meal and some air, quit a transition.

Still showing a nice nose, dark rich color, nice fruit and still some acidity which seems to be fairly common in many of the 2012 Napa Cabs. Black licorice, slight tar and tannins. Very good but the 2013 is the vintage I prefer.

Not as good as bottle 1, heavy oak, wood and vanilla on the nose and palate even after 90 min decant. Good structure, but didn't last last long enough to really get a good profile. Guess that's not a bad thing.

First time I have had a Lewis in a while, and this was very impressive. Didn't get a lot of air, but was open for business. Powerful dark red fruit. Touch of cocoa. Medium + weight. Really compelling finish.
Opened alongside a 2013 Swagger and the Lewis was the preferred wine by all 3 of us. More power, better finish. Nice stuff. Did not strike me as something particularly cellar-worthy; this drinks well now.

Fragrant nose, dark purple red color, nice fruit yet showing some acidity. Black licorice, coco, slight tar and tannins. I must say that the 2013 vintage is better in my opinion and more to my liking. The 2012 showed big when I first tried it, but the 2013 vintage showing bigger and riper dark blue fruit. 2013 is a killer vintage for Napa Cabs and the 13 Lewis Napa Cab knocks it out of the park.

Decanted 2 hours, nose of blue fruit, vanilla, baking spice, floral notes, some red cherry hidden in there. Palate of subtle blue fruits and flowers, at the right temp a very light and delicate wine but it became heavier/sweeter with chalkier tannins as it warmed. I ended up putting the decanter outside to chill it down at the end.
Very nice wine, drink it between 60-65F. Also be sure to decant, lots of sediment in mine and the air helped it develop.
Final verdict, this is an awesome wine, very enjoyable and I will buy again.

Decanted 3.5 hrs. Hard to believe this was a '12. Cherries, chocolate, hint of coffee, tannins subsided, but seemed surprisingly worse as wine warmed as it sat out. Really good stuff, still has points left. Only my second '12 and we're off to a phenomenal start!

A solid, heavy hitter is the 2012 Lewis Cab! Big, brawny, and a muscular Napa Cab. Generous, black dark, ripe black fruit, licorice/ sweet anise, tobacco, cassis. Absolutely gorgeous, among the best of the 2012 Napa Valley Cabs lineup that I have tried. Man, this is good. Even better now with a little time under it. 94+ points.

Curious wine. Found it uninteresting for first glass as it lacked "it" factor. Oak and alcohol seemingly blocking a positive reaction. Kept waiting for fruit to push through or tannins to kick in. Really transformed on second glass. Finish became elongated with more mouthfeel and better texture.

Granted this is a baby, but disappointing on many fronts. Average nose but overripe, jammy, and non descript on the palate. Hints of scorched fruit and an unpleasant barbecue note on the mid palate. Little if any length. Very poor QPR on this wine. At this price point look to a Seavey or Hayfork for much better balance, taste, and differentiation. Very disappointed!

In its youth this cab is showing depth, concentration. A big Cabernet with fineness, bright, ripe fruit, dark cherry and cassis, essence of chocolate and a nice tannic balanced. A compelling example of the 2012 vintage that is ready to be enjoyed right now but time will not hurt this one. The alcohol is high, but there is a lot of good things going on with Lewis 2012 Napa Cab. For those who like big Cabernets, this could be for you (get it before it's rated).

RRV and Napa Visit; 7/7/2014-8/30/2014 (Napa and Sonoma): 15.5%, shows it’s oak quite a bit more than the Mason, which makes me wonder about the oaky barrels going into the lesser wines. starts to tread into Root Beer territory, brooding black fruit. Roasted coffee and grill marks aromas, not the sweet fruit or purple color of the Mason. Huge wine, spice, not the sweet fruit of the Mason, but more concentrate with meaty/grilling notes to the palate.
