Blind...too cold at first. Muted the nose a bit. With air- you get the CSJ wild side- slight reduction, dark fruit, a very strong pepper note comes on and lingers. Finesse. Cool minerality. young. Needs time.

This was the most elegent vintage for this wine I have ever had, probably the cool vintage but impressive. It was more a burgundy than BDX as other on hot vintage.

Deep ruby in colour. Medium nose intensity with notes of black and red fruits, blueberry, red currant, violet. Medium+ acidity with medium tannin. Tannin is round and smooth on palate. More to full bodied and medium+ finish with medium+ flavour intensity. Will benefit with ageing. Did not decant. Already entering its drinking window.

Medium red colour. Red fruit, mineral and oak on nose. Initially tight but opens up after an hour with medium bodied red fruit, iron and definite but well-integrated oak (more integrated than a bottle tasted 1 year ago). Not the greatest CSJ but has the pedigree. Medium finish.

First bottle of Esmonin CSJ and it was really quite nice. It paired well with a roasted rack of lamb. The nose was lovely with dark ripe fruits, some meaty/savory hints, a bit of spice notes likely from wood, and some violet. The palate had good concentration and density with lovely fruit and savory/earthy notes. Still fairly structured, but the concentration of the fruit hides most of it while drinking with food. A very good effort for the vintage.

(from memory) Deep ruby, nose of animal, black plum, pomegranate, spice and wet stone, slightly stewed plum fruit on the attack followed mineral-driven but lush berry fruit, spice, earth, plump acidity, and medium tannins, finishes slightly rustic with more animal, black fruit, earth, Asian spice and lingering juicy acidity

Riper, richer and more opulent than what I expected for a 2013 Clos St. Jacques. Lots of ripe cherries, plum, spices and meaty flavours. Wonderful concentration of flavours and well balanced.

On the nose, it is most incredibly perfumed. Cherries, prunes, woodsmoke, freshly tanned leather, earth, spices, roasted nuts. Richly woven tapestry of aromas, very complex.
On the mouth, it is low acidity and low tannin, with a voluptuous body of soft cashmere. Seductive, yet it feels like the mouth lags behind the nose. Baked fruit, aniseed, spices, smoke.

Blind Wine Industry Guys (Eric's House, Hong Kong): Served blind. Translucent ruby purple-tinged black in colour. Nose is young and quite reticent... still furled. Red earth. Palate is surprisingly fresh high acidity and great minerality but touches of old vines depth on the tongue and in the mouth. Tannic youthfulness. Margaret River? 2012? Too much oak shielding what lies behind. Is 2013 Gevrey Chambertin. Needs 10 years. Was definitely overshadowed by the Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin Villages 2012.

Social distancing Dinner: Bottle breathe for 45 min (I think it should be 2 hours+). Classy and elegant nose. The palate is complex with balanced fruit, earthy note. Very decant Clos St Jacques which supersedes a lot of Grand Cru
I will give benefit of doubt by trying this again with longer breathe time

Pale ruby, almost shading to garnet. Beautiful gevrey nose - solid mix of red and black fruits backed by a touch of vanilla, hot spices, green notes and an enticing funk. Strong attack although doesn't quite reach the crescendo you'd expect - but lovely long finish. Super today, likely outstanding in another 5-15 years.

The nose alone is 95 points. I could smell this all day long. Consistent with Sylvie wine making style with a brooding style, wild game, oyster shell, and a whiff of barnyard. I love the fruit concentration. Much richer than the Village offering. The finish is still youthful with some green stem. This will warrant a higher score with 5 more years in the cellar.

A classy and stylish wine, with perfectly ripe berry and cherry fruits and loads of spice. It has good flesh and appears creamy at first. With air, Gevrey flexes its muscle and the back-end has sinew and grip. It has excellent minerality and poise.

Grand cru quality CSJ. There is some caramelly brown-sugar oak fighting with the fruit at first, but it's an even fight and the wine ought to turn out just fine. The texture is refined and velvety, very luxe. No sign of the stems. And very minimal CO2 as well.

Dark ruby. Nose of cherry, earthy scents and some cluster notes initially which gave way to some chocolate and oak after an hour in the glass. The greenness is not overbearing but also not the ripest sample I have seen. The complexity is there though. The palate is a touch too acidic for the fruit it carries. Young for sure but I don't think this will turn into a great but CSJ will make a decent Gevrey Premier Cru. Solid still, to be fair, the price point of this is also on the bottom end for a CSJ (5x less than Rousseau/Fourrier). Young, wait till 2020. 92+

Quite deep and dark in the glass. At first there's plenty of reduction but breathes to show ripe cherry fruit and spice. It is earthy in the mouth and velverty of texture. There's good weight and depth and length is impressive. Needs time to develop complexity.

Visit to Domaine Sylvie Esmonin in June 2014 (Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy): From 1.6 ha, the second-largest holding in the Clos, on the northern end that borders Cazetiers. Deep red colour. A step up in intensity of the fruit and animale aromas of the previous wine, but with aromatic complexity, spiciness and an impressive structure. Pungent and a little reduced. Silky smooth entry to the palate. Real depth, power and structure. Excellent tannins and good acidity, all in balance. This is a lovely wine that will develop nicely over the next ten years.

I didn't score it.... but I did like it. It's a rich, big boned wine. In keeping with the house style, I think.

Still young, nice concentrated fruit. But muted nose at this stage. Needs more time but approachable enough
