  • Started with tight, sharp cranberry notes. Opened up and softened with a leaner body of flavors of tea, cherry, some plum in the background with ongoing stemminess and grip. Tasted from decanter over 3 hours.

  • Alcohol is still noticeable. More years before desired drinking window?

  • Pnp that opened up a bit with air. Slight spritz that was off putting upon opening that blew off over 30 mins. Nose grew more expressive. Nice cherry fruit and balanced mouth feel. Nothing to elevate the spirit tho

  • This has aged significantly in the past couple of years. The meniscus was tea colored and the fruit has dried. Overall it did not have the intensity and vigor of prior bottles. Overall just a bit muted. Still a decent wine with good balance and a silky texture, but not up to the 92 point ratings I gave previously..

  • In a really nice place. Not sure where the drinking window comes from.

  • Interesting. On the nose - immediately dark red fruits, notably strawberry and cranberry. But, after letting it open up for 30 minutes it changed dramatically - smoke and meat rose to the top and it became very earthy. Faintly burnt rubber.

On the palate, it has nice structure, good acidity - soft, round and nearly silky. Mainly cranberry and cherry notes.

It's a nice wine, holds together very well but I'm not crazy about the backend of it. It's missing a little something.

  • Fruit forward. Black cherries, dark plum, good amount of forest floor and other earthy notes. Great with roast pork.

  • Very enjoyable wine that combines the lean, earthy-ness of Oregon with the ripe, dark fruits of Freedom Hill. This is very a food friendly wine with nice balance and good acidity. Has that Oregon cranberry-earth characteristic that I find attractive and unique to Oregon pinots.

  • Everything about this is light: color, aroma, weight, flavor, finish, my interest. Vague sweetness, dolcetto meets kool-aid. Not very impressive. Your money is better spent in Burgundy.

  • Never quite hit the sweet spot for me. On opening it was somewhat stemmy and tannic. After an hour or so, the stems (or was it oak?) had receded, but so did the fruits. Nice acidity, and good wine. I'll keep next bottle a year or two more to see how it develops.

  • (Notes from memory, as I forgot to scribe): we had this with Donna and Jen and me in Princeton. This was a tasty wine. We had it with grilled Atlantic salmon, sauteed mushrooms and wild rice, and it was a good pairing with the food.

  • Agree with rickspicks on the dark fruited thing. but not at all heavy. Deep, not heavy. Bright acid, no (noticeable) new oak (for once, thank god). Patricia Green's wines seem to float while still retaining complexity. Bravo. I expect no less from a native Chicagoan.

  • The Patricia Green Cellars Freedom Hill Oregon Pinot Noir was the other wine in my comparison fun. I tried it next to a 2012 Cristom Willamette Valley Pinot Noir over a three day period. The saleswoman at A Bottle or Two, my regular wine shop in the Cincinnati area, suggested that these two wines would be interesting tastes next to each other. So that's what I did...

    Day-1: 89 Pts. (3hr decant)
    - Appearance: Between deep salmon and pale ruby, it is clear with bigger legs than typical for a Pinot Noir.
    - Nose: Clean, medium intensity. I get new electric toy smell, mineral, chalk, slight meatiness and smokiness. Nice - the nose on this one actually presents itself as more masculine. I was told otherwise at the wine shop. I get strawberry too.
    - Palate: Dry, low acid, medium tannins and full body. Black fruit, slight dill, slight kirsch. More old world than I was expecting.
    - Conclusion: Finish = 18secs
This one keeps going ever so subtlety over the next several seconds after 18secs. It us a fun, complex beauty indicative of the Willamette Valley. I like this one more than the Cristom. I paid $35 for this and it's not that far off - I would feel comfortable at $27-$29.

    Day-2: 90 Pts.
I'm getting strong dusty characteristics and light intensity on the nose on day two. There is more acid than on day-1. I get meatiness and old world tones. The finish is now at 13secs.

    Day-3: 88 Pts.
Caramel and red fruit on the nose. Dry. Good after three days. I got a blast of red fruit which faded quickly to unbuttered popcorn.

  • As usual for Freedom Hill pinots, it is relatively dark-fruited, big, rich and luxurious for an Oregon pinot. Smooth, velvety mouthfeel with plenty of structure to frame all the concentrated fruit. Surprisingly open and very enjoyable already. 91-92
