Youthful color. Light body. Limited fruit, high acidity. Hopefully this comes into better balance over time. On day 2 there was significantly improved balance, which gives me hope.

Cherries and spices on the nose. On the palate it is a complex bouquet of dark cherries, baking spices, black tea, strawberries... The depth is incredible. A very complete wine, which will further improve with additional cellaring. Superb now, bright future ahead.

Nice flavorful dark red fruits with solid lift and good baking spices. While delicious and drinking well this has the real potential to blossom further.

Late night "casual" at Maison Dakota. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of greenish forest floor, integrating expensive oak, dark red cherries. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, fine medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, ripe strawberries, integrating expensive oak, spice, forest floor sous bois. Long finish. Very very good quality. Elegance, with a certain serious charm to it. Lovely red fruits supported by great acidity. I was guessing some serious Chambolle 1er Fuees 2013. Drinking in the zone now.

During a 2013 vintage tasting. The conclusion was that 1er Crus are in an early drinking window, while the Grand Crus need a good 5 more years. The vintage has elevated acidity but the tannins were more polished than in 2014 which we had a few weeks back. Also the wines have compact fruit. All this makes them well suited for further cellaring. TN: Very young still but potential clearly visible with excellent balance, well judged oak management. Beautiful red fruit, Vosne spices, cured meat. I would drink this at age 15, 2028.

Nose has some spice initially, then opens up with time to very fresh and ripe strawberry. On the palate there is nice complexity with more strawberry and just a touch of barnyard. Light to medium body. Good finish. Lovely.

I haven’t had a memorable clos de vougeot yet. Still haven’t unfortunately as I thought this Hudellot might do the trick but it didn’t. The nose on this wine is much better than the palate. I thought I was in for a treat on the aroma alone but the taste is a real let down. Initially it was quite tannic, in the furry sense, then the palate was so lean it became almost bitter. The wine is so damn lean! Have to say it doesn’t do it for me. Grand cru? Not even close but such is the minefield of Burgundy I’m not deterred as it just goes with the territory. For all the disappointments the great ones every once in a while make up for it. That’s the game in this region of France if you want consistency there’s plenty of Bordeaux to be had. It did soften a bit as it sat in the glass but this wine reminds me more of an okay village wine than a Grand cru of around $200.
Perhaps a bit redder fruited than some of the other CdV wines. Sweet and luscious with floral spice infused red berries. It has good volume and mineral tang driving home the finish.

Nose of wild red berries, earth, wet stone, farmyard, pepper, noticeable toasty oak and sweet spices, some leather and tar. On palate mid weight with concentrated, broad and layered flavour of ripe red fruits, prominent stony minerality, leather and licorice. It's gained some signature Noellat fragrance and transparency compared with my last tasting which I like it better now! 2nd bottle out of 6.

Vinetasters: Clos Vougeot (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Fairly complex nose, with lovely red fruit, earth, and just a hint of spice. Clearly on the younger side as well. Slightly confectionary on the palate, with some tart strawberries and candied tart cherries. Quite pleasant but not too complex, perhaps owing to the very young age. My 5th, group's 4th.

Light in its feet, airy, hawthorn flower, ripe red fruits, black tea, pungent white pepper, hint of savoury and smokiness. Young of course but wel structured and potential for short to mid term.

Coravined over a few days and then opened the remained during a dinner where Clos de Tart 2002 was served. TN: Initially closed and opened up more and more. Last showing was the best. The struggle of a cooler vintage is visible, just like when I with the DRC arrivage 2013, tannins are a bit more pronounced, not drying but punchy. Aromas and freshness fantastic in 2013, great terroir transparency. Here the strength of Hudelot Noellat's Clos Vougeot comes in. Fantastic aromas of earth, whole cluster with an animalic touch, great complexity. Wait till 2020 and you will have a jewel in your hands.

Clos Vougeot horizontal: 33 wines from the 2013 vintage (Fine+Rare Wine London): Suave and rich, this wine conveys pleasure. There is nothing too hard or too intense. Honest to the vintage. A charmer but with more than expected weight. Lovely. Among the very best from this tasting – and no surprise. Perhaps the best. This domain, which I visited a few years ago, generally makes polished wines, with elegance and grace, balancing oak (up to 60% for grands crus like this one) and freshness. Oh yes, the plots of vines belonging to this producer are located near the top of the slope. I would be a buyer, but this will probably be a triple digit wine…

Hudelot-Noellat have really nailed this wine. Year in, year out this is one of the bottles that stops me in my tracks. It has a beautiful ruby colour and whilst the nose is closed at the moment on the palate it is simply fabulous with its rich, concentrated, complex flavours and fine tannins. Clos Vougeot doesn't have the greatest reputation among the Grand Crus, but with the likes of Noellat and Grivot strutting their stuff this kicks any prejudice firmly into touch. Wonderful stuff. Estimated maturity: From 2023

Delicate, linear, "correct" acidity for the vintage, but a depth that says 1er or grand cru. Delicious and moving.

Clear WoTN. Very red fruited, vosne spice, fime tannins. Minerality and a hauntingly beautiful finish. Grand cru Red Burg indeed.
