Medium-deep colour, with a little browning on the edges. Superb, complex nose, with notes of spice (clove?), warm red fruit, leather and sandalwood. On the palate the tannins are noticeable but it's all in excellent balance, with a long, lovely aftertaste. Not quite fully mature yet, but it's already excellent.

Opaque and deep ruby in appearance. Very impressive color.
Evolving and pronounced nose of black fruits, balsamic notes, soya sauce and even some sweet tobacco and vanilla. Some of the aromas took coaxing and time in the glass suggesting this wine still has plenty of run way ahead of it.
Medium plus bodied with plenty of acidity and structure. The tannins are starting to soften but are still present. Very strong flavor concentration with a long and savory finish.
Overall very well done and text book stuff. No rush on this one - will last another decade++ in a cold cellar and I suspect it will develop further.

This Gaja is a fine Leather Belt. Well, actually the belt is often underrated- but actually it makes a statement and has a purpose. Not many things can do that. It wraps around you, soft, but sturdy and structured. You may smell hints from the tannery, deep and weathered. It stays with you, supports you and complements anything you put with it. Like leather, wine over time develops and changes. As you sip you realize- you are actually in the tannery but eating a dark cherry ice cream cone. The dark cherry begins to drip down off the cone- the leather, the cherry = this wine. The leather belt keeps you together, but the ice cream opens things up and lets loose. We paired this with many flavors- blue cheese, king crab, venison and romaine over the course of the night. It kept our pants up the whole time. However, like we will need to do after such decadence, you probably will want to add some extra holes to this belt to let it open a few extra notches. We have five more bottles, if it’s drinking this well now, like fine leather we expect future bottles to age with a very distinctive character and hopefully not too big of a waistline.

3rd of 6 in 2010 tasting. Such an excellent vintage. Ranking was tough, as all 6 Brunello/Chianti were all highly expressive and balanced extremely well. Each wine improved throughout the tasting, so I would suggest a couple hours of decant before digging into the 2010's at this stage.

Decanted for 2 hours, then drank over the next 2 with a burrata appetizer and some parpardelle with Italian sausage. Wonderful Brunello. Great nose as soon as it hit the glass, and lovely on the palate. Evolved through the evening with notes of cherry, tobacco and slate, with excellent structure and finish throughout. Proves that the hype over the 2010 Brunellos is well-deserved, and should continue to deliver for years to come.

Decanted, though little sediment present. Cherries and damp earth notes. Good acidity and plenty of stuffing make a balanced wine. This did not strike me as particularly modern though opinions on that vary.

Three hours in the decanter and drank with basalmic lamb chops. Big and vibrant, lively - wouldn't peg it as a 2010. Also wouldn't peg it as brunello (although the nose is suggestive). New world style, black fruit dominates.. It is like a ripe bordeaux but with the acidic structure that is all tuscan. It is remarkable that this wine is 100% Sangiovessie. Enjoyable, delicious, decent QPR for a modern style red but much more a super tuscan than a Brunello. Good wine and fun to think about.

Sehr empfehlenswert.

Incredible Brunello. Amazing that they can do this with Sangiovese. Tastes like nothing else. If you are looking for a standard, nice, brunello, this frankly isn't it. If you want a Brunello where you look at the wine and are like "how in the world did they create that??" then you are in the right place. I found it sublime. Worth the three digit cost.

First time tasting this wine, popped the cork at 7am and initially felt funky.. maybe something wrong with the bottle? Served at 8pm after a long areation, overall not convinced this was stored perfectly, as it gave off some heat on the nose and the general feeling on the nose was that the wine was quite forward, mature, evolved, but it was showing well both the nose was very plesant and the palate was very soft, delicate tannins, overall great balance, a good wine I want to try again

Same score but a different experience than May 2018. Tasted blind and guessed Toscany 2007, but was a little bit in doubt if it was sangiovese or super tuscan. Dark cherries, sweet oak, and very pleasant and balanced, but quite evolved for a 2010.

Gaja really never disappoints. Popped this open and decanted and took a big whiff, definitely not a shy nose. Leather, tar, and spring meadow filled the counter area, this was the kind of bouquet that fascinates everyone at the party, even the ones who don't care that much about wine. There was some tart fruit at first taste but that smoothed out after 30 minutes in the decanter, when the familiar Brunello flavors started to jump out of the glass. Definite buy if you can find this for south of $70.

Popped, poured, consumed over 90 minutes. This has developed quite well over the past two years. The oak has integrated and it has shed some baby fat, leaving a lovely, complex, well balanced Brunello that is drinking beautifully now and will likely improve for several years.

Flott vin! 94 poeng.

At first I thought to taste a mix of syrah and sangiovese, but it is 100% sangiovese; deep concentrated and very classic from the start to the finish. The iron fist is looking for its silk glove, and I think you have to give this wine some years to find the glove.
Sour cherry & sweet tobacco on the nose. Balanced with velvety tannins, long finish of cherry, chocolate & vanilla. RTD now, will definitely benefit from cellaring.

From 0.375 bottle. PnP. Darker garnet color. Tasted next to the Conti Costanti Brunello di Montacino 2010, this is darker in aromatics with dark cherries, dark plum, cool menthol, tobacco, cedar wood, graphite/tar and some sweet spices. It' full-bodied, dense and powerful, with highh tannin and high acidty adding structure to the big wine. There is also a very beautiful sense of balance between all the components. Great length too. A super impressive 2010 Brunello that combines a massive structure with beautiful aromatics.

Medium-dark cardinal color. The pretty, elegant, Burgundian-style nose is densely packed with aromas of crushed rocks, flowers, and strawberries, with a lingering woody nuance. This has a very linear palate, starting with a burst of juicy fruit flavors before turning sharply mineralic at midpalate. This finishes in the grip of tight acidity, with a slightly rustic woody note that lingers at the back of the mouth. Built for decades of maturation, this shows incredible potential. Very pleased with this today; in 20 years it will be a classic.

Drank over 2 days. Dark garnet color. Aromas of macerated red fruits with a touch of chestnuts and wood. Succulent, extracted red fruits on the entry provide nice acidity and texture, followed by strawberry compote and a touch of bitter tannins in the finish. More compelling on the second day, with lavender aromatics giving an early peak of this wine's evolution. In the mouth, the wine firmed up a bit, becoming more concentrated and focused. Taste evokes a juicy young barolo -- carnation and tar aromatics are followed by a hint of an orange zest oils. The finish is still a touch short, but should flesh out with time. A well made wine with a nod to its maker's Piedmont heritage.

A very well made wine with obvious quality, heft, and lots of structure. The wine has an exotic underlying tone of spices that are somewhat unique to its peers, along with a very evident heap of vanilla from oak (tot much for me, but if you like that, you will love this). Very dry and elegant, should improve significantly over the next 3 to 5 years...This one is built to age.

Some wines for WVIZ - Public Television; 7/27/2015-7/28/2015 (WVIZ Studios): Probably my favorite in the flight. Very young and needs to sleep for 5 to 10 minimum. The nose has cherries, cedar, spice and tea leaves. Even a hint of mint. On the palate, this is a wall of tannins. Spice, cherries and forest floor. Nice acidity makes it drinkable now, but it is very tight. Very modern take and very pretty as well.

Pnp. medium, garnet color, quite dark for sangiovese. Clean, pronounced nose with red berries, cherries, cranberries, oak, cedar wood and a floral, rose petal note, the palate is silky with medium(+) acidity and high but smooth tannins. With time it shows dried orange peel, barnyard and chocolate on the nose.
This is a young, full bodied Brunello that due to its smooth tannins is very drinkable now.

Very dark red color. Tasting pour x 2. This had a really intriguing, complex nose with a distinctive nuttiness, caramel, cherry cognac despite the impressive of not giving up everything at this point. The palate has a nice texture, red fruits, nice structure, power, but still pretty elegant. 92-93pts.

Tanninene er faste, og biter seg tungt i den lange avslutningen som viser godt med fattoner. Dette er en herlig vin, og må være en av de store Bdm´ene i 2010. Flott vin! 94 poeng.

Well integrated, great balance and a real charmer too. I had to order a few more after trying this twice over the past week.

Drinking beautifully after 30 minute decant. Great balance between fruit and tannins.

Second Sunday Group: Montalcino (Leon's): Double blind. Notes of dark fruit and herbs, perhaps some tobacco too, with red fruit qualities more apparent as it opens in the glass. High-toned red fruit and acid, cherry flavors as well. Chewy tannins.

This was wild! An amazing aroma with very big fruit. Not your everyday Brunello. I see this aging well. I almost get more of a feel like a Super Tuscan than a BdM. I'm not touching these babies again until 2020+

From 37.5cl. Plenty of new French oak aroma and flavour, but well integrated with bright red fruits, earth, pepper, black tea. Good acidity, concentration and length overall. Better in 5-10 years.

Gaja Dinner 25/11, made to be more accessible young according to Sara, 14.5%, fresh ripe cherries nose, floral, quite a masculine big Brunello, double decanted for 2 hours, an appealing Brunello, left a bit to sit in my glass and it was tobacco and smoke

Needs to be decanted for 45-60+ minutes, OR else cellared for another 1-2 years.

Decanted for 2 hours, amazing softening of tannins during that time, typical Brunello but still too young. Will try again in 5 years

Pop and pour, consumed over next 60 minutes. This is clearly a well crafted wine and I was happy to drink it, but a little New World and Oaky/Chocolatey for my taste right now. I'd be curious to try this in 10 years, but no need to wait as it is already very drinkable and enjoyable.

24 months oak. This showed very well against a whole lineup of Gaja, which is saying quite a bit. Great vintage from a great producer.

My first 2010. Decanted 3 hours. Great, powerful nose. Plum, black cherry, cinnamon. Persistent. A bit heavy on the tannin right now but it's young, obviously.

Pnp. medium, garnet color, quite dark for sangiovese.

92-93pts.

Much cleaner and cooler than the two Cupano tasted before. Fine, ripe fruit, linear and precise without being simple, round, fresh, spicy, great balance and length. Good grip, slightly drying. Excellent with good aging potential. 92-93+
