From a jeroboam. Cork fell into the bottle so clearly this has been badly stored. Smells oak, a bit of orange peel, Most of the fruit has gone now, replaced by an orange peel notes and then a quite pleasant persistent almond note. Quite fun to taste this but it should have been drunk by 2016.

I am a firm believer that rosé is not just a summer sipper—it should be consumed all year. Having said that, it was in the ’80’s here in Houston on February 1st and a I was in a rush to get the kids fed and off to a basketball game. Rosé sounded like the perfect antidote. Despite the obnoxious popularity of this wine, it is one of my favorites from the region. It is also proof that intentional rosés (grapes that are grown with the expressed intention that they be made into a rosé—i.e., not a saignée) do not have to be consumed immediately. Muted berry fruit, but fantastic tartness and a finish that lasts for minutes. Chapeau Sacha! thedrunkencyclist.com

If I exclude Champagne, Whispering Angel is easily the best rosé I have had this year so far. The balance between expressive aromas and flavours and beautiful light body is stunning. This wine is like tasty breeze. Wet stone freshness, refreshing sour fruit and almost dusty tannins. Beautifully structured. Serious wine.

I am coming around on this wine. It has always been a solid rosé, but the previous couple of bottles found me a bit perplexed—mostly because I was being a New World knucklehead and focused on the fruit. Well, this wine is much more than the fruit. Sure, there is fruit (strawberry and melon), but it tends to be more reserved (a word that is not in the lexicon of most Americans). But the balance. Holy schmolly, this wine has that in spades. The key here is to hold the wine in the mouth a bit longer than usual—in other words to think before you speak. I guess that is the lesson we should try to learn from our European brethren: Think more, talk less. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Retail $20. Make no mistake, this is a fabulous rosé and at around $20 it is a bargain, but this bottle was ever so slightly lacking in fruit. Yes, it was crisp, yes there was a great finish, but without that tiny burst of red berry fruit upfront, I feel a bit cheated. I normally contend that a good rosé can last well past the season of its release (I have some 2012 Chinons that are still gangbusters and a 2009 Tavel that is ridiculous). This one? Not so sure… still, Very Good. 88-90 Points. thedrunkencyclist.com

Looks like I haven't had this wine since the '10 version, which is surprising b/c I enjoyed both, especially on a hot day like today. Very light, peachy rose color to this one. Aromas and flavors of peach jolly rancher, strawberry, watermelon, lime, and minerals. Medium body, acid, and finish, with lingering minerality. Solid Provençal rosé.

A classic Provençal rosé, Château D’Esclans Whispering Angel 2014 is, as the name suggests, a convivial and charming romp, with just enough of a mineral and earth underpinning to keep it from floating away. Very nice rendition of Provencal rose. Complete, refined and structured but still elegant. Light pink color. Fairly light on the palate for a wine with this much structure.
