Animal fur on the nose, ripe red fruit. Wonderful red-fruited palate. Again, the fruit appears ripe. Notes of leather, band aid, earth. The tannins are marked, and they are firming with air. This is really interesting, and not going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm generally a big fan of this wine and while the '04 was enjoyable, especially with food, the hard tannins and high acidity are starting to dominate the fruit and the wine is falling out of balance in my view. That said, it has a wonderful aged silky texture with strong flavors of road tar and garrique spices and works best at the table where the tannins are absorbed by the food.

First time with an older Bandol. Stood up for several days then decanted off sediment. Now 1.5h later. Wild almost feral gamey meat aromas with herbs, bark, earth and tart red cherries. The gaminess reminded me a lot of northern Rhone syrahs. The palate, though, is rather different. Unripe plums, herbs, bark, earth and still with prominent tannins on the midpalate. Not much of the gamey meats on the palate. Nice acids lend elegance to the complex wine until the tannins kick in. Not the greatest concentration but that's probably the vintage. Nice moderately long finish. After another 1.5h in bottle, flavors become more harmonious and the texture smoothed out a little more. Still with prominent tannins. I think this could still go and evolve for another 5 years but not sure how much longer than that. I worry that the fruit would dry out before the tannins completely resolve. 91+

Goodish but a little bland, so slightly disappointing. The garrigue fruit is there but there isn't enough of it. It could be a tired bottle, but I won't wait long before finishing the rest.

Would certainly continue to improve with time in the cellar. But absolutely delicious and very much approachable now. The tannins are mellow now and the wine is musky, feral on the nose. The fruit is black and has taken on a gentle stewed quality, there are provençal herbs that permeate the wine and there is some licorice showing at the back end. Delicious and very expressive of place.

Dekantert 3 t. Vid åpen nese med sedertre, solbær og menthol. Litt lær. Slank og mineralsk munnfølelse med mørke frukter. Nedslipte tanniner. Veldig old school og veldig bdx like! Litt rustikk avslutning, men perfekt til et stykke lammekjøtt og mørk sjokolade etterpå!

Purchased at the winery and cellared. Quite austere, with the tannins resolved. Enjoyable for its restraint and balance, however a bit short on the finish.

The material here is quite good and the wine is balanced and complex, there is good depth. I found the structure to be so firm right now, the tannins like a brick wall - I think it needs a lot more time before revealing its full potential. Another decade maybe.

A attendre.

Visiting Chateau Pradeaux in July, 2013 (Chateau Pradeaux, Bandol): Pradeaux is not a modern styled wine, but this 2004 which was made by Cyrille Portalis seems even more traditional. Ligther color, nose showes some evolution, but not mature. Almost Burgundy-like, with red berries and tobacco. Far from being extracted, loosely knit texture, red fruits in the taste as well. Feels having low alcohol, it's leaner, with old school styled, rustic, coarse, never resolving tannins. Rather charming than truly outstanding, if anything, this resembles to a traditional Brunello. Will live long.

At dinner, a great value find. Nice rich black fruit nose with some cedar showing early maturity. Palate was smooth with a nice balance of black fruits and acidity. Very good finish.

Opened several hours prior. Purple fruit on the nose with a nose mix of currants and red berries. Briary fruit palate with a little pepper and cedar spice. Very prominent fine tannins. Repeating purple fruit on the finish with some smoke and touch of meat. For the most part, surprisingly clean fruit throughout. Could use some time to soften.

Taste off vs Domaine Tempier. Couldn't be more different. Tempier relatively elegant, fruity though very tight at opening. Pradeaux also tight at start, not much bouquet, then opened into a funky and very nice earthy wine.

Nat cork. Concentrated but clear ruby or garnet red. A pretty, honest but bit restrained nose with hint of medicine and root drinks, became more perfumed wit time - both in intensity and elegance. The nose was fresh and lively throughout, suggesting rose and tart red fruits like cranberry. Overall a bit reminiscent of nebbiolo. Palate paid off the nose with cranberry fruit on a med-full body, as well as a floral note. Tannins provided quite a bit of structure and a bit of puckering but not so sharp as to be offputting. A very nicely balanced, well made wine with tons of promise. Very much enjoyed.

Very raw and tight right now, fruit severely masked and the tannins are hugely gripping. Never softened through the night but some cooked/burnt fruits peeked in from time to time. Wait a while on the next bottle

Dark ruby. Sour cherry, cranberry and blackberry nose with liquorice, bitter herbs, spices, earth and some blood. Full bodied with considerable grip of tannin and refreshing acidity. Florals, liquorice and red+dark fruit. Ok length. A good wine, but nothing exceptional in any way. Restaurant Gustav Wasa in Vaasa. Only a decent match with reindeer fillet (a self chosen wine - not a recommendation).

This wine seemed to show me two faces. Coarse at first, with unforgiving tannin, after throwing down some licorice, dust, and scorchy, candied stuff. Then it seemed to soften and clear up at bit, becoming a bit more delicate. It was back to its more raw personality on day two, unexpectedly. Who knows. This was decent, but not something I found terribly compelling.

nose is fresh, flowery, licorice, some bordeaux scents... on the palate its Rich, deep, tannic but green and drying at times.
bought 3 bottles....putting the other two down for 5 years. Not sure....I like this but don't love it. but there are some really interesting flavors....even got candied cherries (the kind in a shirley temple) on the finish as one point.

Tasted this towards the end of a Pradeaux line-up with Etienne Portalis (son of winemaker Cyrille). pretty serious stuff---currants, brown sugar, grassy hay otn. very intense in the mouth with a very savory component and big grip. would have loved to reevaluate after a few hours (or days) of decanting. as the quoted Wiki article says about the domaine: "The wines of Pradeaux are brooding and difficult." Put this down and forget about it for a while!

Light medium red, like the 05 very bright and clear. Not as herbal as the 05. Again red fruit nose with a bit more mineral and earth. Very tannic but the fruit is there to go for a long rest in the cellar.

Nice dark color. The stuff is till there and the bottle doesn't appear tired, but the wine is a bit simple and unidimensional for an aged Bandol.
