Definitely needs 3-4 hour decant. I knew it was too young but took a chance. Very lean, austere and almost unpleasant for an hour. Opened slowly and was actually better on day 2. Very intense, great penetration of iodine, red plum, black fruit, and cassis flavors. Cigar leaf note as well. A 50 year beauty, probably not ready to drink for another 5 years., but good enough tonight with A5 and radicchio. Love the way the acidity holds its own against the beef fat and radicchio’s bitterness.

Very young. Opened and let breathe in bottle for 3 hours. Cassis , violets, pepper , smoke and lots of very interesting savory notes. Nice silky tannins. This wine oozes class.

Koehler-Ruprecht: Complete Saumagen vertical of all Spätlese and Auslese R and RR plus X (Neuhof am See, Dillingen, Germany): *** please understand this note in the context of the whole vertical tasting *** Glass: Gabriel Standard My first young LaLa. Wine decanted for unknown time (I guess a few hours). Deep purple color. Nose with lots of red fruit, but missing the sexy notes of ripe LaLa’s. Very concentrated and fruity, incredibly high tannin, spices. Silky texture. Needs a lot of time to blend in and develop sexiness. Good, but I would not open my bottles in this stage. 92-93++

95 poeng. For nå.

Guigal New Releases including 2013 LaLas: Peppery and spicy with earthy notes - quite savoury and smoky but with that great floral lift overlaid. Plenty of tannins and oak on the palate though there is good savoury fruit and a line of spice. Really needs a lot of time before it'll shine.

2017 Guigal single vineyard cote rotie release dinner (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo): "Brooding and a little closed. Quite bold and bolshy. Woof. Time in glass to open. Bold black fruits, peppery spice. Unsurprisingly this is big and bolshy on the palate with massive tannins. Unapproachable at this stage. Needs so much time. Phew. Later on somewhere meandered over with the decanter holding the last of the bottle. touches of crushed rock now to go with the massive black fruits. Oh, and there is sufficient acidity to balance this all out. Cripes. I mean. Oof. With decanting and an hour or so in glass it's still vinfanticide.

Rich, dark, opaque, closed, coffee, toffee, lots of punch, but very big, overwhelming huge tannins. Too much--needs 15-20 years. right now I'd put it at 92, with potential for 94, but I fear it may stay massive forever. With Philippe Guigal in B.H.

Light spicy aroma of pepper and some asphalt. More balanced that the 2013 La Turque. Tight but displaying copious fruit with cherries and chalky minerality. Ripe tannins show up on the dry finish.
A wine worth cellaring, it is more tannic than either the La Turque or La Mouline. This is the most structured and masculine of the trio. Needs 10-15 years. Best 2028-2043. 93% Syrah, 7% Viognier. 96-98 points.

Not sure if this was corked or not, but there was definitely something wrong here. Not much fruit, quite harsh (but no cork smell)...

Too much oak and tannins harsh, austere, missing sweetness and sexieness in this stage. 92
