Outstanding. Tried at 75 minutes (was still closed but delicious) and then again at the 3 hour mark with dinner. Beautiful dark fruit, perfect acidity. Ran a little hot and the finish wasn’t particularly interesting/complex, which prevented a higher score, but I would buy many more bottles.

Decanted for one hour (as I finally remembered to refer to my previous TNs). The color was a deep dense violet. The nose was heavy with dark fruits and some earth. The medium plus bodied palate overflowed with black currant, blackberry, black cherry, raspberry and plum, along with some spice and black tea. The acidity was very crisp and sufficient to balance all of these fruits, while there was just a touch of tannin on the finish. Decanted for 45 minutes, but better after 1 hour. This bottle was as enjoyable as our previous bottle on 4/6 and showed more blue and black fruits along with the dark red. Can definitely cellar but is highly enjoyable now -- with air up front.

Only had 15 minutes of decanter time before the start of the meal. The wine continued to open and develop in the decanter as the second glass was better than the first, and the last pouring was the best. Give this wine at least 45 minutes in the decanter and you will be rewarded. The wine darkened with more air to get to a deep dark purple. The nose was heavy with dark red fruits and a touch of earth. The medium to plus bodied palate showed lots of black cherry and raspberry, some blackberry, currant and plum, a good dose of spice and a touch of herbs. The acidity was juicy and balancing, and any tannins were integrated. This wine can definitely cellar for some additional time, but is quite enjoyable now - with air!

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cranberry and hay/straw. It tastes like blackberry, red currant, raisin, light toast and black pepper. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

Slo-oxed for 20 minutes, but it needs 45, as it darkened and integrated with more air. A medium purple in the glass. There is an initial whiff of vinegar that blows off leaving a nose of dark red fruit and earth. The medium plus bodied palate shows the dark red fruits and earth, along with some brighter red fruits, some plum, and a bit of spice, while the acidity is balancing. Pretty sure that this wine will hold for another several years, but it is certainly satisfying - with air - right now.

The night’s winner, as it often is. It’s a wine that always mesmerizes. Red fruit, spices, acidity and a mouthfeel that’s pure ballroom. It dances on the palette.

Crumbly cork though able to extract. Deep red, purple tinge. Strong alcohol on nose, some almost ripe cherry, a bit of spice. Possible whiff of cork? A bit underwhelming.

Brilliant nose of cherry, raspberry and candied apple. The entry is soft and easy but I can’t get past the candied taste that reminds me of corn syrup. There’s clove and plum and some red apple in there but the sugary taste is too distracting to savor them. I hope this 1st of three bottles is an aberration.

Vibrant fruit and spice that has balanced out over time. Three years ago I had a bottle of this and it was the wine of the night. I wouldn't call it that tonight -- it had some stiff competition from a Kosta Rosella's of the same vintage -- but it was fun to watch them go head-to-head.

What a disappointment. I am hard-pressed to pay $100 for a domestic pinot (unless made by Joe Davis at Arcadian). This was simply flat and uninteresting. Won't be buying again.

Pale ruby red with moderate legs. On the nose strawberry, cherry Indian spices, leafy aromas, black cherry and some olive. On the palate great impact up front with sour styles berries and tea, spice and cola nut. I though the finish was really suave and kind of decadent, with the slightest hint of truffle, earth and mushroom on the back end followed by black cherry, cherry and cola nut notes. One of two wines from the ‘Trapeze Artist” offering, the other being the 2013 Treehouse which I will sit on for a while.

Some age has really helped this wine. Wonderful floral nose of dark fruits and spices. Still powerful and fruity, black cherry and nutmeg and cinnamon spices. Strong mid-palate with soft tannins and a velvety mouth feel. Long finish. Very definitely a CA pinot noir.

Pw/4 hour double decant. Clear, med ruby/purple. Big nose. Maybe not long enough decant as this drank tight and fairly rough. For sure it's way too young and needs at least a few more years of rest. Med/full bodies, more on the dark fruit side, earthy, rich, extracted. Will hold off on rating. $107

Unfortunately, I could not wait to drink my last bottle. This is still on the young side with bright fruit and baking spice taking the lead. Balance is superb. Definitely take this bottle to dinner and sip with your meal. A feminine wine and I wish I had another bottle to try in about 5+ years to see if it transitions into a mature adult. IMO the best stage of a quality bottle of wine.
This had a lot of heat and acidity initially. After a few hours of decanting, that all blew off and what was left was an amazing pinot, approachable and balanced. Wait a few years before this will begin to peak.

A full throttle pinot noir. Delicious black cherry notes with some mint, cinnamon spice cookie, cola. This wine has very rounded edges. I am somewhat confident that the newer vintages just don't have this kind of integration yet, although I don't think I'm going to figure that out with the bottle I'm getting in a few months. Pinot power! Wish I had more than one bit of this wine, but before I could come back to it, there was no more!

July 2018 Cirq Visit (Cirq Winery In Windsor): Plush and round. There is an evenness here, a linear quality that made me stop and pause. Lightly roasted red fruit of cherry and a spicy quality, with a tangy acidity in the finish. I found this wine also showing some aged quality, to mean that the primary fruit is moving away and the wine is settling into an older wine that is showing some cool development.

After tasting the 2016 treehouse Michael Brown said "I really love the 2012 Treehouse, it's one of my favorite wines. Want to pull one to compare with the 2016?" Okay, I'll speak up. Hell yeah.
There's a mossy herbaceous note on the nose. Good earth / dust too. This wine is sweet with fruit, not sugar, and smooth with rounded tannins. Red fruit and cedar. Very flavorful. Graceful.

Dark, medium bodied and mildly restrained for a CA Pinot. Blueberry, cassis, and cranberry. Cola and ash. Pronounced notes of vanilla and caramel. Pleasantly surprised as this is generally not my wheel house.

Popped-and-poured. Opened very smooth and silky, and somewhat fruit-forward. Was absolutely delicious. Took about 2+ hours to drink, and towards the end, fruit became more tart, dried cherry. First half was much more pleasant than second half.

Ruby-garnet, mostly opaque. Moderately pronounced aroma of black cherries, some acetic notes, also charred oak. Full-bodied, concentrated flavors. Some tannins but soft. However, very hot and mouth-searing, presumably from alcohol, carrying through to a too hot finish. Maybe it will soften with a bit more time. Ric

Drank this bottle for my birthday. Had this bottle properly stored upon release and drank near cellar temp. This bottle was fabulous, balanced and elegant. If I had to compare this to any KB bottles, I would say the 2009 Sonoma Coast was a tad similar but not in the same league. I would say this has entered its drinking window and personally I would like to drink this in another 3-5 years but it will be very difficult.

Our group of friends are long time Kosta Browne drinkers. We looked forward to tasting this one as it was our first of M. Browne's Cirq. Out of the cellar at 55F. Some strong alcohol on the nose on first opening. Very dark ruby/purple color. Impressive fruit on the nose. Decanted for 1.5 hours. Big legs in the glass. Alcohol has dissipated. Surprisingly soft, elegant, and medium body. Almost perfect balance of fruit, tanin, alcohol, acid. This is truly a stellar pinot - perhaps as good as a Sonoma pinot gets. After some time an interesting caramel/cola secondary flavor emerges. Wow! Easy 94 points - perhaps better.
This lovely wine is California Pinot at its best: rich, complex, powerful, elegant, and delicious. Light purple in color, medium in body, nose of black cherry, straw, menthol, and herbs. Tastes of cranberry, raspberry, and rosemary, with an ethereal and lingering finish. 14.5% alcohol. This is a step behind the 2013 Treehouse, which had a touch more depth.
Although I've felt mixed about Kosta Browne's offerings (which can be sweet and straightforward), I'm not mixed about this: I think Cirq is one of the best producers of modern Pinot in California today. Perhaps this a fleeting thought, but I've always enjoyed high-octane CA Pinot from some of the more established producers (e.g., Peter Michael, Morlet), but I think Cirq offers an additional step of grace and balance.
A Few Wines Tasted at Cochon555 (Chicago, IL): Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry with some cherry cola, anise and allspice. Very good concentration and also good+ balance. Baking spice throughout, perhaps a hint too sweet on finish. I enjoyed this more today vs when last tasted two years ago.

Previous notes apply from 6 months and a year ago. An initial wave of very nice brambly purple and red fruit, and some hints of mulch, earth, brush, and river rock. The acid seemed low; the frame came off a little fuzzy, especially after some air. As mentioned before, once this monkey sat out in the glass for a couple of hours, it displayed a flat mid and finish. PnP and the first sips were very nice, and then seemingly between the air and coming more to room temp, it became a fainting damsel in distress.
As mentioned, PnP was "good;" somewhat interesting, somewhat enticing, somewhat nuanced, somewhat complex, somewhat...
I think I like this wine the way I like the idea of a first date with a mysterious, beautiful woman, but someone I probably know will bore the crap out of me in the first fifteen minutes. This wine would "fail the car ride" - after a few minutes driving to dinner, you'd just want to turn around a go home to your pizza, dog, and Family Guy.
So, (here it comes...) if this wine was $50, it would be a no-brainer, but it's twice that much off the mailing list - 3x that much on the secondary market! What are we doing?? If you're gonna be the best domestic Pinot in the world, then do it. But do it now please, because being "somewhat" anything is pretty darn inexcusable for this QPR. Don't get me wrong...you could serve this to folks and it will be "fine"...but that's what it will be.
93? points when looking through the most objective lens I can when evaluating this wine. I rant a bit because I care about this wine being something, and frustrated that the divorce just seems inevitable. Maybe the 2013s will show better.
Pretty, but tight pinot out of the bottle. Relaxed a bit at about an hour, but needed to re-chill half way through the bottle to bring back into balance. Saved some for the second day - showed similar issues to CSIMM1161's note below. Hard to know, but this one may have trouble aging. Michael Browne is an very accomplished wine maker and a nice guy in my limited interaction with him, but no more CIRQ for me at this QPR. Scored for first day.

A very good US pinot Cirq Treehouse 2012 made by Kosta Browne's winemaker, poured from coravin. Enticing nose with coffee beans, raspberries, mixed berries and velet. Palate as balanced ripe blue and red fruit with soaring acidity. The depth of this wine is quite impressive. However, I wouldnt pay 150usd for this. Bad qpr.

So a little bit of a different experience with this wine from 5 months ago. PnP started out with vibrant high-toned red berry fruit. Good flavors and a lot of energy. An hour decant at 54 degrees was perfect, releasing some of the purple berry, brush, and earth notes. At this stage, it was a 94 point wine.
After about 3+ hours of air, this thing fell almost completely flat. Like dead cranberry juice. It had made its way to room temperature in the glass, and by the end of the meal, it tasted like some watery 2 Buck Chuck. Very concerning.
So I'll simply say, don't over decant. From PnP through the first hour was fine, but after that, it was a rapid decline. Very confusing and disappointing.
94 points at its peak. Kinda blows since I'm sitting on an order of 2013s...QPR is insulting.
Loved the berries and floral bouquet. Mid-palette was a bit flat for me and finish was missing some structure. I definitely did not get the kind of satisfaction as the other reviewers but then again, my palette also leans towards the classic burgundies with a well structured finish. Going to let it breath for longer next time as it only decanted for about an hour before we drank it
This is an exceptional RRV Pinot. Rich with fruit, a bit of minerality to keep it from going over the top. WS rated this at 91 points... I am starting to lose my faith in their CA Pinot ratings as a result. Count me as grateful for having it in my cellar. It will likely get better over the next few years but don't be afraid to have some now.
this blew me away. its young but hauntingly delicious. so much perfume and great acidity and tension countering the layers of fruit. crushed this bottle in barely 30 minutes among three of us. outstanding.
Much more elevated and complex compared to tasting this a year ago. After about two hours in the decanter, this was pumping out very enthralling flavors of red and purple berry fruit, deep black cherry, black raspberry, red and purple plum, wild blueberry, and wonderful underbrush and evergreen notes that beuatifully cut the core fruit. Also, bits of cedar, wet slate, earth, and cola (like a cross between RC cola and Boylan black cherry soda). The slightest touch of caraway seed as well.
A unique and special wine. Actually a wine I was a little reluctant to like, as I was almost hoping this would fall short and convince me not to go for my 2013 allocation coming up soon. However, this wine did not disappoint, and now my wallet is going to be a little mad at me this summer! The 2013 is going to be offered at $125 a pop. Almost insulting really, but I'll likely bite after having this 2012. Grrrrrr.
It is indeed one of the most unique Pinots I have tried recently. Nothing like a KB Pinot (thankfully), as the Cirq is in a class way above any KB Pinot. Recommended for sure.
95+ points. I will try to wait 6-12 months until the next round. If opening now, I recommend decanting for a few hours.

One of the better bottles of Pinot Noir I have had in a while. Bursting with cherry and raspberry fruit. The finish was elegant, and leaves more than a hint of baking spice on the back palate. I found this to open pretty quickly for me, though a decant would have been worthwhile.
One hour decant. Big and concentrated, but still in balance. Ripe red cherries, cola notes, some loamy spiciness, and a bit of sweetness peeking through on the finish. 5-8 years more to go. Well built and drinking great now.

After my last experience, I knew that this needed to be opened for some time before drinking. I opened it at 8 am thinking that it would be great for New Years eve. The last 3-4 hours were in a decanter and we tried it at 7 pm. It was flat and thin with no fruit, no nose, and only some bell pepper. There was a smooth texture, but no flavor. We all thought we missed a drinking window. We tried it again just before midnight and the fruit structure just started to show - again the bright red (ripe) cherries were there again. I will keep my remaining bottles cellared for longer or if one wants to try this I would open for at lest 24 hours prior.
As a Burg drinker I am biased. So for a CA Pinot this surprised me. Great fruit, upfront. Not a lot of rusticity but well made and balanced. Delicious juice.

Birthday Dinner; 8/29/2015-8/30/2015: Not going to rate this because I never allowed it to do its thing. I opened this wine 4 hours prior to serving. I removed a glass to help with a better slow - ox. I am sure that decanting would have helped. It is young, but not "hot" and high in alcohol. You can tell that this will be special in a few years.
Day 2 - This bottle had opened and showed beautifully. It was smooth, soft, full of cherries, and had a long finish. Amazing wine worth the wait

2 hour decant. Moderate depth of flavor, moderate tannins. Slight heat. I like the flavor profile, but it's not quite at the $100 level at this point. Perhaps more aging. I'm surprised how different it is from KB Sonoma and also that there's a lot of clarity at the edges for being so young.

Tasting, brief note. This was a tough wine to assess. Clearly lots of powerful, ripe and concentrated fruit, as well as good spice. While I certainly understand why others really like this style of wine, the balance didn't thrill me here, finding it slightly too ripe with some hints of sweetness. But I think this might integrate and soften in another year or three.

3/21: Tasted this wine at the Cirq wine pickup party. Great event but the wine was a little disappointing for the price. The wine is more feminine than most KB wines and gravitates toward a Burgundian style. I gravitate toward the Burg style wines with age but this wine had little weight, bright fruit and nothing special screaming out for the future. We'll see...

Initial pour there was some smoke and a little red fruit. After some swirling and some time the fruit began to emerge and the thin watery start turned to a singing beauty of ripe red fruits, creamy oak hint, and a touch of earthiness. The acid and tannins were much in line with each other after an hour or two. Long life ahead

Pop n pour with Little Ceasar's crazy bread on a Thursday nite. Notes are from last glass the next day after vacuvin overnight...Striking color clear ruby with flashes of deep garnet throughout and violet along the edge. Perfectly clear with no hint of cloudiness. Ethereal nose of dried rose petals, a little funk, leather, pencil shavings, red fruit, vanilla and elderflower. Inky plum, gooseberry and blueberry on the front palate with just the right amount of alcohol to register as spice. Subtle green stem tannins brush the mid-palate but pleasantly so, like a gentle loofa scrub in the shower from a lover. Finish is sublime and integrates tannins back into juicy fruit and leather for a lingering finish I timed at 45 seconds. Stunning. Will benefit from 5-10 years of aging I suspect.

Tasted at the Cirq pickup event. Nose was somewhat muted, with unique mineral, wet slate and berry aromas. On the palate, a cool inward profile of purple and red fruit; plum, black cherry, dark red cherry, and blueberry. Earth and wet stone notes cloak the fruit a bit. More of a low-toned pinot profile (no high-pitched bing cherry or strawberry flavors here). Chalky tannins and a tight minerality take the lead over the fruit at this stage, almost like a tight cool-climate Syrah in need of extended cellaring. It hints at having more to offer in the future, but it is difficult to assess at this point for me. Hopefully time will fatten it out a little bit more and allow the fruit to stretch out. 93+ at this stage. Will wait a year to crack the first cork on my allocation.

The night’s winner, as it often is. It’s a wine that always mesmerizes. Red fruit, spices, acidity and a mouthfeel that’s pure ballroom. It dances on the palette.

Nose is vanilla, spice, strawberries, lavender, earl grey.
Bing cherries, earl gray, vanilla spice on palate.
Fruit is taking a back seat to to 2ndary aromas.

Definitely take this bottle to dinner and sip with your meal. A feminine wine and I wish I had another bottle to try in about 5+ years to see if it transitions into a mature adult. IMO the best stage of a quality bottle of wine.

This is an exceptional RRV Pinot. Rich with fruit, a bit of minerality to keep it from going over the top. WS rated this at 91 points...

We all thought we missed a drinking window. We tried it again just before midnight and the fruit structure just started to show - again the bright red (ripe) cherries were there again. I will keep my remaining bottles cellared for longer or if one wants to try this I would open for at lest 24 hours prior.
