Nose: cherry, cranberry, red apple, forest floor, roses, violets, barnyard Taste: medium bodied, medium tannins, medium acidity, dried cranberry, cherry, wild strawberry, black tea, roses, spices, earthy, granite, fresh, elegant and balanced, very nice, should improve with time

Cherries, wet earth, blood orange, wet stones, really a lot of complexity in this. Some might consider it a touch on the lean side, and I wouldn't argue the point. I also wouldn't say it's a bad thing.

Drank a bottle over dinner at Mezza9. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red cherries, earth, and sun-baked stony minerality. Youthful. On the palate, dry, bright hight acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), smooth medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, red plum, sun-baked stones, chalk minerality, earth, and hints of smoke. Medium+ finish. Good quality. A fairly straightforward wine now. May develop a bit more complexity over the next 2-3 years, but this seems to be more for medium term drinking. Blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio.

WSET Diploma Practice Tasting - Various Combinations (Fredericks, Islington): The wine is clear and pale ruby in colour. The nose is clean with medium intensity aromas of red fruit (cherry, strawberry, red currant). floral (violet, rose). vegetal (blackcurrant leaf), hint of tertiary (leather). The wine is developing. The palate is dry with medium (+) acidity, medium (+) grippy tannins, medium (+) alcohol, medium body, medium intensity flavours of sour red cherry, strawberry, violet, leather. The finish is medium. The wine is good quality. The acid and tannin just about balance the fruit, which has some concentration. Lacks concentration and length of finish. The wine should be drunk now and is not suitable for further ageing. It lacks the concentration of fruit to allow for development of tertiary flavours.

This is a very fruit forward, candied expression, which I don't much care for. The nose is of licorice, purple candy, red jolly rancher and confectioners sugar. Palate has nice lightness of weight and great acid which is just about the only redeeming thing about this wine.

Bright red fruits and a little background chalkiness on the nose. Palate is sweet, fruit forward and flattering but totally one-dimensional. Frankly, £17 is double what I'd expect to pay for what is a simple, fruity wine with little ageing potential.

looks like a pinot in the glass; dirt earth and loam (did i say dirt?) to start; opened up over an hour then better on day 2 with just sweet red fruit, rhubarb and enough structure to be interesting. Best with food.

VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy): Dull crimson, see through; great wild strawberry on the nose, strong volcanic influence, root vegetables, cinnamon; nice focus on the palate, mineral, sour fruit; Burg-like.

Earth and red currant; good grip in a medium body. still seems as young and a bit austere as it was a year ago; better on day two
