  • AP0215, Screwcap, 8% alc. Pale lemon colour.

Sulphur, passionfuit, green minty herbs and spices, green apple, and browned pear. Requires some coaxing to open up.

Soft, pillowy texture, with good acid bite appropriate to the Prädikat. Delicate sweetness; not really noticeable, just a foil for the acid. A gentle kerosene note begins to emerge with air. Good length.

Opinion: Nice Kabinett from a less-regarded vintage. Buy again.

  • Cellarhand 20th Anniversary Tour 2019 V2 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): sulphur (a theme on these off dry wines), and, oddly, a little kerosene. Not much else on the nose. Palate has cream, ripe apple and far less kerosene. Hmm

  • What a name for a wine! Subdued nose of radish (like a GV) and pepper. Palate is tight, but refreshing. Kabinett I would guess, no green acid, good balance. Delicious wine, just finishes a bit short. 17.5/20

  • Acid haus (Stanley Street Gallery, Sydney): slight kerosene over custard apple with slaty spice. Off dry. Fruit sweetness is well integrated to the juicy acidity though it's a little short...this bottle might be a little forward, perhaps?

  • Rizza and Bangers (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Slight sulphur, apple, slight cream, peach. A little spritz, apple fruit, slight spice - ginger and cinnamon - fresh, acidity, long, nice, fruity

  • Pale green color. Sweet-toned and slightly green nose with aromas of apple jam, lemon marmalade, some candied grapefruit zest, a little bit of sappy herbal spice and a hint of stony minerality. The wine is light-bodied, steely and remarkably weightless on the palate with vibrant and slightly lean flavors of golden apples, some beeswax, a little bit of aromatic herbal spice, light floral tones, a hint of spicy minerality and a hint of beeswax. There's a little bit of sugary sweetness, lending a little bit of oiliness to the mouthfeel, but the high acidity nicely offsets most of the sweetness while getting rounded nicely by the sweetness at the same time. The finish is crisp, quite long and pretty mineral with focused flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, some apple juice, a little bit of perfumed floral character, light marmaladey sweetness and a hint of steely minerality.

A very balanced, classically built and delicious Kabinett with lots of poise and finesse, coming across as leaner and precise than rich and exotic. Feels still very youthful in style, showing good potential for future development, but starting to be very drinkable already. Most likely will reach its peak at around 10 years of age or even longer after. Lovely stuff, priced according to its quality at 18,90€.

  • Stelvin closure. The nose is crisp, salty and quite reductive. Very restrained with green fruits and some floral notes. On the palate medium-bodied, highly acidic and extremely minerally. Tightly coiled with plenty of green (apple, lime) fruit. One of the driest tasting Kabinett Rieslings I've had in a long time, this is not a hedonistic wine but a solid aperitif and conversation wine.
