Showing some oxidative notes, but nice depth and power. Not quite as energetic as a few years ago. Perhaps missing that next level of complexity I would expect. Good now.

Only slight hints of maturity tonight, and tasting right after the Selosse, this of course comes out a lot fresher with citrus and minerals up front, The fruit is fresh, vibrant, notes of stonefruit here as well. Drinking very well. #Ib

Possibly flawed since there was a distinct acetone note which detracted. Light gold, average mousse, good acidity. The mid palate has low to medium concentration of aged ripe yellow fruit but not enough to offset the acetone.

Lots of fallen apples here, great depth and fullness, almost vin nature like in style; crisp and a wee bit sweet, very gratifying. #IB#Palmer1961-night

My, my - this is delicious! Pear, lemon, narcissus nose leading to an intense brioche, Chantilly crème palate and something slightly savory (button mushroom?). Really gorgeous and probably sitting towards the early-middle phase of its window.

(Disgorged in December 2015, 100% Chardonnay from three aged parcels in Les Chétillons in Le Mesnil sur Oger, dosage 5,5 gr/l) Still showing a light yellow colour with a lovely greenish hue after so many years. And the nose, filled with layers of cream, minerals and butterscotch at first and opens up with more maturity of dark chocolate and acacia honey as well. Smoothing citrus acidity on the palate also showing chocolate and acacia honey sweetness before a beautiful lime zest bitterness on the lengthy finish makes for perfection as the smooth butterscotch notes takes over on the tongue. This is already filled with power and intensity and at the same time it feels as if it will last for ever.. I feel no rush to open my next bottle, that is for sure! (Best 2017-2042)

Disgorged 5 years later than the original release. Expressive straight away: green apple, citrus, an orange peel element, rich light pastry, and a sweet edge, almost white-chocolatey. Bold with some mature elements showing, but very fresh at the same time. Seems at the front end of a 5-10 year peak maturity *****

Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction (Formento's - Chicago IL): Truly great Champagne. Mostly ripe orchard fruit throughout with faint evolution. Good weight, but truly great length and a sense of power without so much weight, resulting in a bright, attention grabbing finish.

Zachys auction at Formento's (Chicago, IL): The nose to me is a little more alluring here, showing a fair bit of yeastiness. Very minerally and bright, with a lovely chalky texture on the palate. While there's definitely the lighter texture on the palate (I've never found the Chetillons to be a particularly weighty wine), the ripeness of the vintage I think helps flesh out this wine quite a bit. A fairly convincing bottle, but given the tariff here, it wouldn't be the first choice for my cellar.

We decided to host a Les Mesnil semi blind tasting, with champagnes from Salon (1996), Selosse (Carelles), Pierre Peters (2002 Les Chetillons Oenotheque) and Doquet (unfortunately it turned out the Doquet we had is not his Les mesnil, but the 100% blanc de Blancs from Coligny, 10mins south of Les Mesnil). Interestingly, during the semi blind tasting, four of us were all quite certain which glass was Selosse, while the other three were rather confusing and created divergence in opinions
For Selosse Carelles (disgorged in 2015), it just really stood out for the chalkiness and smokiness on the palate yet intriguing with that oxidative touch, acidity was at higher tone (precise but not overwhelming); fruits and minerals were also very generous, it really got that Selosse uniqueness that everyone immediately guessed the glass. Love the wine The other three bottles were rather confusing and our guesses were all over the place, which was a bit surprising to us - as big champagne lovers, we thought we can easily guess the Salon. It turned out Salon 1996 that night was probably slightly off, with some funkiness on the nose initially and much more mature than I would expect for a 96 salon. The funk did blow off with time, and got good weight and acidity on the palate, but certainly not the Salon I was expecting for, a disappointing bottle. Pierre Peters 2002 Les Chetillons Oenotheque was very fresh and seemed still young (I actually guessed this was Salon initially), with white flowers, light honey, raw almond, and steely minerality on both nose and palate; this wine can certainly still age a few more years before enjoying, a nice bottle. Doquet has been on my purchase radar for a while and so far the experience has been great, for all the bottles i consumed past four years they all delivered very well, very expressive, structured and mineral with power and grace at the same time, acidity was slightly high-tone but was quite my style.

The great outing (Aalborg, Denmark): A rarity - and extremely good; deep, decadent, yet vibrant with acidity and minerality galore. Very long, very complete and concentrated. Grand Vin.

Decadent. Medium yellow. Fine mousse. To the peak of balance. Fully ripe fruit. Harmonic. Ethereal. Zesty. Crisp. Full. Long. Fantastic.
