Nice small-berry intensity and focus. Agree that this was very spry and young-tasting. Impressive freshness and a nice departure from the "Porty" profile that I often experience with aged shiraz.

I have always loved the Block 6 shiraz's and this one is no exception. Drinking incredibly young this wine has many great years ahead of it. Happy to have two bottles left. I would love to serve this wine blind since no one would pick this as an 11 year old aussie. For all those who think Aussie shriraz doesn't age well should try this wine. It would surely change their opinion. A wonderful effort.

(2+) Drank with Mom, Dennis & Bob. Had flank steak. Slo-oxed for about 3 hours, then decanted 1/2 hour. Not at all what I expected - a big wine but rustic - smokey and meaty. Very good pairing with the steak but much more like a Rhone wine than an Aus

Black - never would have guessed 10 years old. Deep cherry nose leading way to a very rich fruit palate, but with good acidity to balance it out. Fleeting meat armas, but really this one is all about the fruit. Very long finish echoes the deep cherry richness. This was a good and well made wine, that was balanced and not over the top at all, but ultimately too one dimentional to me.

Recently I've been drinking some of my 2000 to 2002 Aussi Shiraz and it has been a spotty tour. Some wines have lost their flavor and are dull. Some have matured and developed some more suble taromas. This is thankfully is one of the latter. This is not a big blockbuster, but is a small blockbuster, showing the lighter vintage of 2000. Almost had an oxygen nose, with vanilla from the oak. tarmacy and deep red fruit on the palate and a middling finish. Everything fresh and vibrant.

Upon opening, overwhelmed by American oak notes of dill and varnish. Re-corked and left for 24 hours. Next night, the oak had subsided and the wine had moved into a much nicer place. Still a sweet styled wine, but the lushness matched with just enough acid to avoid being totally OTT.

Wow, what a great wine. I love the Aussie Shiraz when they are young but this wine shows how great they can age too. If you have any of these in your cellar you are very lucky. They are drinking so good now it's hard to believe they are not at their peak. So glad I've got 4 of them left in my cellar.

Had only a single of this wine, so decided to fire it back with a grilled prime rib steak in preparation for this weekend's Shiraz-fest OL in Vancouver. This wine is very good. It is not better than '98 Kay's Hillside (which cost 1/2 as much). But nonetheless this is an outstanding Aussie Shiraz. From 108 year-old vines. Yielding 2.24 tonnes per acre. But more about the wine. Decanted for 2 hours (needs more). Opens with a nose of prunes and black pepper. On the palate, tightly wound and tannic, but flavours of plums and black fruit - a bit reduced. With another 2 hours open, the wine becomes more approachable. Takes on a creamy texture and shows some blueberries and acid that picks up or freshens the flavours. The wine hits a great drinking point at about 5 hours of decanting. Oh, the tannins are still there - this wine is young - but the wine is great drinking now, especially when tamed by the steak. No rush to drink this. If I had another I'd wait for 4-5 years. A wine deserving of its reputation, even in this less serious vintage.

Dena thought I had lost my mind but I wanted to open a young Block 6 as I heard the 2000 may be more accessible young than most vintages. Decanted 6 hours in advance. Extremely dark color. Nose of black pepper and blueberries - very primary fruit with maybe a hint of vanillin in the background. First taste is tannic, with much less acid than all other Syrah-based wines we had. Acid comes about 30 seconds into the finish which carries more deep blueberry, chocolate, and floral notes. Very long. Plenty of fruit, but also some balance to it. Even Fred the Shiraz-hater liked this one.

Tief purpurrot; intensives Bouquet mit Colanote, Eukalyptus, Menthol, roter Beerenfrucht, dunkler Schokolade, Speck; trotz seines vollen Körpers frischer, klarer Wein mit langem Abgang, leichter Restzucker. Feinstes Tannin, tolles, samtiges Mundgefühl. Entwickelt sich immer noch weiter!

Seattle Tasting Group does Aussie Shiraz (Bellevue, WA): Mmmm, smoked meat baby, my kind of nose!!! The vibrancy here is spectacular, although perhaps this is a little sweet.
