Cracking the whip; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Eagan, MN): N: Watered down fruits like running sliced pineapples under the water and getting the scent of both. A very gentle note of honey, which also seems watered down.
P: Flavors of golden pineapples with its bitter skins, some dried oak and bitter minerals. Good stony character to this.

Wine-a-palooza (Jason's house): This is still nice, but it was considerably better 4 years ago from a normal bottle, and this was a magnum. Definitely oaky with butterscotch and golden fruit. If you have any, drink up.

Wine Palooza (Eagan, MN): Good but not even close to the level of Morgen Long or Tyler. Carmel, spice, pear, apple and oak. Typical Kistler wine and good but not great.

Tasted over 2 days. Definitely a fresh linen nose with notes of stone fruit. Oak and vanilla shows on palate with nectarine flavors and flint coming through from first taste thru finish. A wine showing much better than I expected, quite lovely. A bit better on the first day so I'm not thinking it will age too long. Definitely needs some aeration.

The 2013 Kistler Trenton Roadhouse features classic Sonoma Coast nose of sea spray. The palate is a little tired with age taking away some of the spark that these wines usually feature. This was probably better in a cold cellar and 2 years ago.

Deep Golden color belies the richness of this wine. Big nose of apples, pears and almonds is followed by a full bodied mouth coating combo of fruit, acid and minerals with a long nutty caramel finish. Drinking great right now but The color and flavors of this wine indicate to me that it is well into its peak time for drinking. I have found with Kistler chards, that after 7 years, you take a lot more risk of a more almond/nutty dominated wine.

Popped and poured out of a magnum. Fantastic enveloping and sophisticated nose of orchard fruit, white flowers. The palate is light golden, medium bodied and well balanced. Concentrated orchard fruit, crushed rocks and a little brioche come through. This is lighter, more restrained, but also more energetic than Kistler Chardonnay’s of earlier years. This is still quite youthful tasting and can continue to develop for another five years at least

Basically my same notes as last year: Developed nose with ripe peaches, grapefruit, cream & just a touch of nutty/buttery aromas. Palate is round (not soft or flabby) with a sharp line of acidity down the middle. Buttered croissant flakes over buttered popcorn, lemon tart, candied orange peel, flint.

Melon and pear are what I first noticed. There were no sharp edges finish was long and fig became prominent. There was a pleasant minerality throughout. Maybe because it has time to round out, I Found this to be one of the more complete Kistler’s to date.

A bright nose of California chardonnay, but the balance of the wine was noticeably Burgundian. 2nd bottle of this single-vineyard for me feels like a step down relative to other Kistlers. Not bad at all. 2 nights later very much the same.

Objectively this is a well made polished California Chardonnay that I used to love; I just find too much oak, heat and fruit in it now as my palate has changed....

Aromatic; peach with some lemon; buttery; full body.
It has no obvious flaws, but it's not too complex (e.g. compared to more refined Kistler wines), kind-of straightforward big Chardonnay. And for what it is, it's grossly overpriced.

Chardonnay Wines at Jason's: Here we go. Big wine but balanced. Oak, vanilla, spice, apple and minerals. Rich. Medium to long finish. This should drink well over the next five plus years. Love this wine. 93-95.

Tasted as the welcome drink at Trenton Roadhouse and brought a bottle back home. Great crystal clear yellow. Developed nose with ripe peaches, grapefruit, cream & just a touch of nutty/buttery aromas. Palate is round (not soft or flabby) with a sharp line of acidity down the middle. Buttered croissant flakes over buttered popcorn, lemon tart, candied orange peel, flint.

California Cabernet 2010 or older (Capital Grille): This is a fairly restrained Kistler. The spicy oak is not heavy, and there is ample acidity. There is a lot of golden fruit. This is a really nice chardonnay.

Deep straw in color. Nose of autumnal spices, tangerine, and hint of vanilla. A Burgundian styled wine. Tastes of peach, orange peel, and hint of vanilla. Nice balance. Noticeable, but complimentary oak. Lovely mouthfeel. Drink over the next 3-7. This will be interesting to watch evolve.

on one hand i very much enjoyed this - but couldnt quite figure out if there was a hint of metallic finish to it - seemed to blow off after it opened. without that odd finish, i would have ranked this higher. it had nice acidity and minerality to it.

Guys Night Out Again (Jason's House): Well, good to see that I'm consistent, another 93. For a Kistler, this is well integrated and not over the top. As good as I thought it was, I think I enjoyed it less than the rest of the group.

Guy's Night Out (Jason's, St. Paul, MN): Light golden color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. I thought this was really nice, very even handed and I'd go so far as to actually say fairly Burgundian in character. Tangerine, lemon peel, mineral, some richness, lemon oil, more mineral, tangy, hints of dried cedar box on the nose, long. The age has served this well, the oak is integrated and this comes off well balanced.

More reticent on the nose than on the palate and therefore a bit of a surprise for a CA Chardonnay. Aromas of green apple, light grapefruit, gravel. Palate has steel and smoke and lovely citrus. Not as profound as some Kistlers but very classy and enjoyable. Fully mature but it does still need time to open up— I have usually been skeptical about any CA chard having the longevity of white Burgundy but this might be able to last a few more years. However it will not get better so the drinking time is right now. And I will say again: every time I open a Kistler Chardonnay I regret not having more. Score. 92. Relative to expectations: 0

Guys Night - Bordeaux vs Napa (Jason's House): This is a fairly restrained Kistler. The spicy oak is not heavy, and there is ample acidity. There is a lot of golden fruit. This is a really nice chardonnay.
Aged High End Bordeaux Blends (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN): Light gold color. Decanted briefly; drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. This isn't really my preferred style, but I will admit that it's awfully good. More restrained than expected in terms of oak. Certainly a big style, rich and full bodied; the nose is creamy and rich with custard, vanilla, pear and a tropical fruits with a palate that follows. Nice textue and good length. 92+ to 93pts.

This wine has calmed down and rounded out in the year since I tasted it last (94 points - 4/16). A little more golden in color, still medium in body, nose of quince, green apple, and saline. Tastes of lemon and grapefruit, balanced almost equally by brioche and almond, with a finish that is far less tart - and far more appealing. 14.1% alcohol. This wine still has an intensity that suggests another year or two of aging, but this has entered a (quite enjoyable) drinking window.

Shared with friends at a restaurant. Outstanding Chard as always very robust nose and a long finish on the palette. Good acidity and ripe fruit on the palette The wine looks straw colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like peach, lychee, mango, pineapple, stoniness and light toast. The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Wow, wow, wow! Trenton Roadhouse is rockin' 'n rollin'. Vibrant, greenish-yellow. Almost sparkly. Bouquet of green apples, peach, lemon, lime and toasted almond cream. Palate ir rich, full-bodied, vanilla cream and elegant lushness. Stunning with less than 10,000 bottles produced. Pleased to have a couple more to sip over the next decade. Wow quite simply explains our feeling.

A layered and energetic Chardonnay that needs air to show its strength. Light yellow in color, medium in body, nose of pear and ocean air. Tastes of grapefruit, lemon, green apple, brioche, and almond, with a tart finish that will subside with time. 14.1% alcohol. A real pleasure to drink now, but I would wait a year or so.
