Loire & Friends Chenin Dinner (Table du Marché): On opening, SO reductive, not just struck match but a whole bucket of brimstone. Gave it a bit of a shake and some time in the glass and...well it settled down, but never completely. Someone said Tarte Tatin - i could see that, but there was also a somewhat bitter finish. Suspect this wasn't the best bottle, although perhaps also a pointer to drinking these wines younger.

Bit of reduction but far from excessive. Lovely creaminess on the nose - yum! I'm guessing this is the influence of the 11% Semillon. Tarte tatin - a definitely baked apple and yeasty flavour. Oven-baked aromas. A bit hot, maybe high in alcohol, and a tad unbalanced. OK but unexciting. Disappointingly simple for a Chenin with 10 years on it. I wouldn't bother ageing further.

Just wow. This has evolved into the most beautiful expression of chenin with the semillon adding honey notes but still retaining fruit and acidity. Oh that all white wines could age so gracefully. Still lots of life though sadly my final bottle.

You can feel the quality here, with every element seamlessly integrated. Smoky, slightly lactic nose (goat's cheese?!), with hints of exotic spices. Also not much trace of fruit on the palate, which reminded me of bitter caramel, creme fraiche and lemon juice mixed with soda water. Drinking beautifully but, as I said in my June 2019 note - is it actually delicious?
2014 vintage Wine and food pairing (Chef's table): Chenin blanc 6 different locations plus 11% Semillon from La Colline. Cement eggs, clay pots, foudres, old barrels, the wine is kept on lees for 12 months, then rested in tank on lees for 6 months. The wine shows medium intensity, ripe citrus and stone fruit, seems a bit tight, fresh "cold" fruit. In the palate, the wine shows tensity, high acidity, minerality, fresh stone and tropical fruit, electrifying acidity, medium body and long lime flavoured finish. Outstanding quality, in a perfect state to drink now

Very good. Reminds me why I love Chenin so much. This is all stone fruits and petrichor, ethereal stuff. Aromatics are off the charts. Incredible attack and mid palate, some astringency on the finish but not enough to take away from how fun this wine is. Plenty of life left. Highly recommended.

Lemon and lime upfront with good freshness. Nice full honeyed mouthfeel. Second wave flavours include peach, melon and vanilla, also a creaminess from lees ageing. Some complexity, long finish. As to when to drink, this wine is showing the trade-off between complexity from ageing but is losing the attack of youth. So take your pick but will last a few more years for sure.

My third or fourth bottle of this famous wine, and just as good as previous ones. Seemingly no signs of the passing years, though the style is a bit oxidative (that’s true for all Alheit wines, at least in my experience) so arguably it’s more difficult to tell. I would prefer more freshness actually but how could I deny the quality here.
This is a big, bold, hedonist type of white wine. Loaded with leesy notes, toffee and all sorts of golden yellow dried fruits, it’s full-bodied, mouthfilling and generous. Creamy and lush in texture but crisp, integrated acidity keeps it in balance. Top shelf complexity. More about power than finesse, but feels honest and natural, offers a lot of enjoyment.

A: Medium gold N: Ripe apple, lemon, cheese, peach, peach stone, vanilla, butter, hazelnut. Medium (+) intensity. Developing P: Dry, medium (+) acid, alcohol felt high but was medium (+) 13.5%, full body, medium (+) intensity and long finish C: This is a chenin blanc, semillon blend. I thought it was BLI and a real treat. I would hold this another couple of years until the creme brûlée flavors of aged semillon contribute to the mix. Very good quality wine here.
GUESSES: I thought it was old world owing to some stone. I thought the climate was warm and thought maybe the Cote Chalonnaise but it really wasn't comfortable with my chardonnay guess.
MISTAKES: Well, there was no honey detected here which did not assist in the grape call. Peach pit and wet stone are different and lead me to the wrong conclusion perhaps. Agh!

Rich, golden hue. Melon, stone fruit, and a little spice on the nose. Concentrated on the palate. This is a rich wine that won’t be for everyone given the oak but it’s well made and well balanced.

Upon opening, I thought this wine was beautiful and sensuous, but with elegance and grace. The only exception was the finish, which seemed a tad bitter and abrupt.
Upon pairing this with some red snapper, served with a sauce of this wine, tomatoes, garlic and spinach made in the same pan as the fish the finish issue disappeared.
Instead the pairing became one of those great pairings, where the wine and food don’t just pair well, but rather elevate each other. A good diner made great, enjoyed simply with great conversation.

Lecker!

This met the high expectations and is currently drinking very well with the nose opening up nicely after 20 minutes. This is full bodied with richness and good concentration though these are well balanced by the acidity. This is one of the best SA Chenin Blanc blends I have had the pleasure of drinking.

Not rated because I wasn't a big fan of this wine but mostly because of the style. Not bad, but a bit young. I'd give it some time in the cellar. This is pretty full and rich in style. If you like California Chardonnay, this may interest you.

blinds (kie-gol-lanee, chicago IL): Nose: The nose is aromatic and balanced with tones of dried linen, lanolin, red apples, minerals, yellow fruits, and some bits of herbs.
Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity. The feel has some good weight to it with dried linen, lanolin, red apples, pears, peaches, and a slight tough of heat. The acidity is balanced and refreshing while providing a good spine.
Overall: This is a very good Chenin Blanc from South Africa. It shows off the grape while showing some riper fruits. There is a slight alcohol sting towards the end, but that is the only real detractor.

Great, beguiling, dense and "creamy" nose. It smells of boiled sauerkraut, very delicate grapefruit and pineapple. Rather freshly spiced tangerine than lemon. In addition, wet pebbles. Overall, it has an unexpected coolness and elegance. In the palate there is immediate presence and a nice length. Wood and acid are phenomenally involved. In addition to stone / minerality, there is a little bit of fruity sweetness and a breath of brioche, which can not be defined for me. The wine makes great joy. However, it remains an easy-drinking wine (with a lot of fun), which can not keep up with the class of other greats, so that I do not deserve a top rating. All in all the best chenin I ever drunk!

Gyllen sitrongul. Meget bra vin.

yes this is good. maybe not quite what I expected after reading these notes, but ruuul good. served around 60 degrees. aromatics could be more intense for my tastes but the length and mouthfeel are impeccable. kept getting better but all gone in 2 hours. reminds me favorably of the aged Kalin chardonnays.

Lovely stuff! The nose is quite intense, full of aromatic, yellow, old and wrinkled apples.
My immediate thought was that I had jumped into the barrel of apples on the Hispaniola, just as Jim Hawkins in Treasure Island.
On the palate, the mouthfeel is quite full bodied, although not fat and hazelnut-oily like a rhone wine or leesy or overly alcoholic. Has energy. Mid palate, a spicy attack full of unripe gooseberries, moth balls and fresh herbs.
The finish is majestic, Riesling like in its perfect balance of sweet and sour, carried by the great freshness, ending up in a complex zesty citrus symphony. Yeah, Cyrus, I can dig this. Any day.

Simple lemony aromas. A little tighter than previous bottles. There is the same creamy stone fruits but it’s a little more reserved than before. Opens up with time in the glass and that really long creamy, nutty caramel finish that I loved the last time.

Exceptional wine in its 4th edition at all! Beautiful golden colour. The nose is just wonderful. Complex mixture of stone fruit, melon, wet stones, liquid honey and fresh toast. On the palate, the wine shows an enormous transparency, focussing more on more towards the finish. Balanced acitiy, well-integrated wood in the background, minerality, dry fruit, a bit of honey and spices. Great smooth mouthfeeling. Long finish, showing some citric notes and again this wet stone character from the nose. (Aeration recommended!)

South African Chenin Blanc tasting (Oinoscent): Ripe citrus fruit, succulent, lime, lemon, ripe pear, lemon leaves, almost tropical nuances with mango chutney and ripe apple. In the palate, the wine shows clean fruit, minerality, mango and pineapple, almost sweet nuances, so welcoming, med+ to high acidity, high intensity, long finish. Outstanding quality, drink now or hold

Trial balloon: Very enjoyable now, but should improve with further bottle age (will try another in 2 years). Agree with Rossi. 89% Chenin Blanc, 11% Semillon. Develops nicely in the glass for 2 hours. Astonishing value. 94+ If drinking now - let it breath 30-60min in the glass (or decant).

Ripe and generous on the nose - notes of peaches, pear, melon, hints of beeswax. On the palate round and again generous, very smooth with subtle notes of lemon and minerality. Vibrant and very long. Very polished and impressive. Drinking very well, but likely to improve. 92-93+

I really enjoyed the blend, however i will say the Semillon portion for the blend left a bit unnecessary sweetness for my taste. That being said it was well crafted with a long finish. Really decent QPR.

Wow! This white blend gets quite a snap. Good price point for the quality of the wine. Worth seeking out.

In the palate, the wine shows clean fruit,
minerality, mango and pineapple, almost sweet nuances, so welcoming, med+ to high acidity, high intensity, long finish.
Outstanding quality, drink now or hold

A stellar example from South Africa. Medium light gold. Unusual and somewhat ethereal herbal aromas. Caressing texture. Languid at first, then acid and fruit kick in. Unique.

Trial balloon: Very enjoyable now, but should improve with further bottle age (will try another in 2 years). Agree with Rossi.
89% Chenin Blanc, 11% Semillon.
Develops nicely in the glass for 2 hours. Astonishing value. 94+
If drinking now - let it breath 30-60min in the glass (or decant).

Ripe and generous on the nose - notes of peaches, pear, melon, hints of beeswax. On the palate round and again generous, very smooth with subtle notes of lemon and minerality. Vibrant and very long. Very polished and impressive. Drinking very well, but likely to improve. 92-93+
