Terroir-istes International - USA-Oregon-Willamette Pinot Noir (Bishopscourt): (Tasted Blind): A light-red hue with an attractive bouquet showing fragrant fruit with red cherry. Intense wine, the body is lighter and ethereal with a refreshing and delicate lift. Fresh acidity with fine porcelain tannins this is a pure pinot example. No green notes as such but a little chewy on the finish but a lovely pretty wine.

It's official, this is aging well. Had it against a Bourgogne rouge and this is just as if not more Burgundian on the nose. Granted it was a couple of years older and the development was evident and welcomed. Love the way it smells. On the palate it was definitely riper and more fruit forward but the leather, forest floor and wet stones very present. Silky smooth on a palate of medium- tannins, medium acidity and medium- body. Finish is bright and of mid length. Very enjoyable bottle. I will age my next one for 2 more years to see where it goes.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of dust, white pepper, a hint of smoke and some red cherries. Flavors of red raspberries and red cherries. Bright acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold.

Constant red notes, lean, bright, with a sweet core and smooth dry finish. Had this against a Vosne Romane and boy there are a lot of similarities. Granted this is much more fruit forward than its Burgundian counterpart but there was a 7 year difference between them so I'll have to wait to see how this develops. Next bottle in 2-3 years.

Essentially same experience as 4 months ago. Typical 2013 and why I love this Oregon vintage along with other supposed "off vintages" like '07 & '11. Energetic and yet very good concentration with a tasty red fruited, earthy profile. Semi translucent red color. This hits a chord with me. Doubt this see much new oak at all. The fruit and terroir shines through. Domestic PN for Burg lovers. Paid $26 locally, this is an excellent value. Great week night PN. I need to try some of their higher end cuvees soon. 13% alc.

On the nose- Elegant red and black cherries, plum, some forest floor, beautiful fresh vanilla, just a super open and elegant nose
On the palate- Elegant red and black cherries, plum, some forest floor mixed with beautiful fres vanilla, the moutfeel is lush and smooth with great acid, very seemless tannins and a long finish everything is in balance with great purity of fruit and a sense of place just a great wine that will age for 7-10yrs

Same btl as R&Rler and mnuncorked. Bright semi translucent red color. Really enjoyed this. Think the last time I drank some Cristom was briefly at the winery. This hits a chord with me. red fruited, spice and earth on an energetic feather weight frame. Terrific fruit purity and varietal fidelity. Doubt this see much new oak at all. The fruit and terroir shines through. Like and agree R&Rlers strawberry compete descriptor. Thanks Lauren! I liked it one better than my two table mates. I liked it so much I grabbed one to try at home soon.

Monthly Tasting Group: Blind Pinots Worldwide (Meritage, St. Paul): Light medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Nice, with light medium body, strawberry compote, earthy, and medium bodied. Called Oregon pinot. A very good base bottle, a wine I am familiar with and generally enjoy. Favored this by a bit over the '96 Roche de Bellene Clos Vougeot.

Lots of pinosity, but less fruit than a year ago. Pale color, sweet fruit that is fading somewhat, good freshness, soft attack on the palate, slightly off finish.

Little rubber and tennis ball on the nose. With a good swirl most of that diminishes. Medium bodied wine. Pretty fresh. Decent finish. Fairly round structure. I get more black fruit than red on palate - blackberry. I think it's ok but I don't love it for the money.

This is the third bottle I drink and I've noticed some bottle variation. The first bottle was best, the second somewhat muted and the third right in the middle. All within the span of a month.
With that said, this is closer to Burgundy than it is to California. Now, I mean entry level Burgundy. It is light, lean, not very complex and with some sense of place. Acidity is medium high, fruit is red and bright, tannins are mild and finish is fairly brief. I definitely enjoy this more than a new world fruit bomb.

First bottle everyone "liked" or really liked. Opened 20 minutes before guests arrived, it didn't last long as the opening to the evening. Paired well with walnuts that brought out cherries and earthy tones. Moving into dinner, the second bottle displayed a lasting finish that paired well with spinach salad, mixed au gratin, fried chicken. Best with the meal!

Somewhat shocked at the high scores because this wine lacks richness and complexity with below to average finish. This is a good workmanlike PN, pleasant but nothing special. It has adequate to good PN flavors, albeit simple, reasonable acidity, mild tannins, uninteresting but average finish. I would score it lower if there were flaws. There are none however, certainly nothing to distinguish it. It's worth buying at the Costco price, not too many bottles. Not worth rebuying. For $10 or less there are much better alternatives in PN, more so in SRhones. This is on par with a lesser Savigny at a lower price, missing the old vines. As such, worth buying but not much.
I've noted the 'score' escalation in Cellar Tracker, appears to be compressed to about 10 points in a 100 point system. Since I 'grew up' with 20 point scoring, e.g. Broadbent, I find this amusing. Parker invented the 100 point scale however, his 85-86 point wines were worth buying, and he rated many wines below 80 (check the old ratings for Pichon Lalonde, one of my favorite wines before moving to burgs). CT users, are you "using" the 100 points?! This is not a venue of tasting only top wines, dissimilar to Tanzer. This tasting note is not the forum to pose this question but I lack the interest in seeking another. Anyone reading this, please pick up the gauntlet.
Tasting at Cristom (Winery Tasting Room, Willamette): Winery tasting. Base cuvee made from 50% estate fruit. Nose is full and bright with raspberry and herbs. Palate follows suit with round fruit that has distinct herb/spice. Like the stem effect.

Beautiful fragrant pinot noir nose. Light color lets you know that this is not just another over extracted new world pinot noir. Palate packed with flavor and varietal character. Very Burgundian in style. I am a big fan of Cristom's style and I prefer this style of wine wine to the very ripe and much heralded 2012 Oregon Pinot's. Good acidity, mild, soft tannins and a long fruity finish.

3 The initial impression provides terroir galore, particularly for a winery cuvée. Strawberry leaning toward preserves, cherry, and spice lead. Light in body, the mid-palate and finish proved thin, with the flavors of the finish turning a bitter. An enjoyable wine, but falls short of what Eola-Amity can do on a great vintage. Delightful.

2013 Oregon Pinot Tasting (Sun Wah BBQ, Chicago, IL): Medium ruby. Full, generous and delicious nose -- rich black cherry with loads of Asian/baking/Vosne spice. Really love the spice component in this impressive wine.

(Mostly) 2013 Oregon Pinots (Chicago, IL): This was perhaps the most average of the wines tonight, in that there was nothing particularly striking about it. It had all the requisite elements but there was nothing that stood out in particular. Take care to note that that's not saying that this was a bad wine, just that it was a very good example of the Oregon pinot noir archetype for me: crunchy tart red berries with a touch of minerality (I always get more mineral than earth or dirt from Oregon wines). This does have a touch of astringency on the back end, though I'm not sure if that's the stems or just young tannins.
