Beaucoup de Beaujolais (Monarch Restaurant, Hotel Deco, Omaha, Nebraska): Popped and poured; no formal notes. This is my first time trying the 3.14 by Foillard and I was fortunate to enjoy not only one but two separate vintages poured alongside one another. For those who may not be familiar, 3.14 or “Pi” is a rare bottling of Foillard’s oldest vines from Côte du Puy; many of the vines are over 100 years old. On this occasion, both bottles were remarkably similar. The 2009 showed a bit more finesse while the 2010 showed a touch more structure. Both had remarkable depth, concentration and balance. One of those a-ha wines that show how great Beaujolais can be. Fabulously structured, both of these wines have very long lives ahead of them as they are still developing adolescents. That being said, they are enjoyable now and should continue to wow through 2040 and live well beyond.

bottle with excellent provenance purchased in Nantes. opened with the most fruit of the night and it declined immediately. theres VA and EA here, so while it might seem bright the better descriptor is shrill. on the body it is thin, as noted by others, and not in the finessed sort of way. was hoping for more concentration or power, but it is still great gamay, and very pure. not sure its worth the prices it has reached ecently

i believe this is my first time trying the 2010 vintage of 3.14. to date i have had various samplings of 2013, 2014, 2016 & 2017. i found it a bit rough around the edges but still presenting nicely and quite enjoyable. my only criticism is it feels a bit "thin" (especially in comparison to recent bottles of the 2013) but with a solid foundation still clearly recognizable in each pleasantly cloudy pour.

Impressive deep ruby color. Some animal but mostly ripe black cherry scents. Medium weight but not as sappy and suave as many Foillard wines. You really feel the soil base here. Delicious mix of earth and bitter cherry in the mouth backed by fantastic acidity and a good slug of tannin. Deep, serious, and beautifully balanced. I would not be surprised if it is still showing this well 10 to 15 years from now (in other words, following the gentle aging curve of higher priced 2010 Burgundies).

Fragrant and complex nose of red cherries and raspberries. The palate has crunchy red fruit with some strawberries and red berry notes. There's nice acidity and good structure with medium weight and a long finish. Outstanding Beaujolais!

Medium red color. Aromas of red and sour cherries, minerals and spices. Ripe fully integrated fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length. Complex and juicy on the palate. Very fresh at 10 years of age but I found the wine slightly low in acidity and only a fair value.

Opened for a Christmas party the night after the infamous Diego Maradona hangover (sooooo painful...). I think this was good, but honestly I couldn't stomach more than a few sips. Nose was lovely as always with Foillard. Obviously didn't have enough to really provide a substantive note. My one impression was that I'm not sure that this is much better than the standard Cote de Py bottling. I find that frequently across this type of Beaujolais producer. The high end cuvee is often not measurably better, and due to its cellar treatment is sometimes less pleasurable/interesting that the standard bottling (see Cuvee Lapierre).

This is in a fantastic spot right now. Layers and layers of red and dark berries, cherries, blood orange, and hickory. Lovely acidity with medium tannins and juicy flavors of red cherries, raspberries, and savory notes on the palate. Long finish. Wow, this is just gorgeous!

This bottle was OK but lacked the excitement of an incredible bottle drunk 4 years ago in Paris. Developing profile with a little dried red fruit and sous-bois, mostly savory now and with none of the characteristic candle wax / incense / spice typically found in the Cote du Py. Disappointing and seemingly on the back foot.

Bright red in colour. Clean Generous fruit. Pretty sweetness runs through the mid palate. Elegant and balanced on the palate. Light on its feet. Black cherry, some raspberry on the palate. Blends into some savoury notes as well as lavender. Love the complexity.

Sappy berry, sous bois, lavender, and Bretty saddle on the nose. Lightweight, transparent, juicy. This would be simply fun but the sous bois and sappiness give the 2010 Morgon 3.14 a fine complexity.

Somewhat mute and hard on the first day, it came alive the next, with sweet fruit, a pleasant touch of brett, and a mineral core. A little dilute, which made for easy drinking. Nice, but probably not worth the price.

2 years and many Beaujolais bottles since the last time I had this wine, tasted blind. Very fruit forward with nice raspberry character, had a noticable but very enjoyable brett funk that added some depth to the nose. Palate was clean with darker red fruit, nice acidity, mineral presance, nice spice. I went somewhere between rhone/burgundy on this but could not pin point it. Imo excellent example of Beaujolais and much more impressive than many I have tried recently, albeit not in the same price range. I think this still has time but is drinking great so why wait. 93-94

Quelle jeunesse!

Dull cloudy maroon; fresh nose, olive, sour plum, granite, dense, meaty, herbs; great mouthfeel, rich and savory, plush wall of tannin, mint, olive, red and tart purple fruit finish, slight leather; very good, if served blind I could have guessed this as Northern Rhone.
Developing nose with a medium(+) intensity. Bright red fruit, sous bois, mud, tulip stems, mushrooms, stable and slight hen run on the nose. Very earthy aroma profile.
Medium bodied with medium(+) acidity and smooth, medium, tannins. Again very earthy with flavors of bruised red berries, wet earth, decaying leaves and mushrooms. Medium(+) finish.
Very much like his standard Côte du Py. Drinking really good today but will probably keep for another 5 years.

First time having Foillard's Py. An intriguing experience. Muted nose at start, then developing barnyard with time in glass. Vibrant cherries in mouth, pepper/leather notes. I felt the wine was initially closed, but development after 1 hour decant hinted to a promising future. The tannins are there. Will try the next bottle in 2020-2022. Probably a 92-93 then

Unmistakeable Foillard perfume, with crushed raspberries, florals, and funky spice. Balanced and middleweight on the palate with light, crunchy tannins. I'm not seeing a big step up here from the other Morgon cuvées in terms of either concentration or complexity, but it is showing a bit less resolved at this stage than say the 2010 Côte du Py, so maybe re-evaluate in a couple years to see if this finds another gear.

Upon decanting, it immediately showed a nice creamy texture for about 10 minutes. Then it settled down and out cane deep, dark fruit notes and hints of funk. This was one of the most enjoyable Beaujolais of many that we have had over many years (but the first of this producer and this bottling, and we were very impressed).

A typical Wednesday evening in Sydney: Served blind. Stalky, briar, white pepper, cranberry and a light touch of barnyard. The palate has vibrancy and good grip that work well together, though the tart acidity does intrude towards the mid-palate. I appreciate the rarity and chance to taste, but it was a struggle to find much pleasure in this tonight for me and I wasn't as keen on it as the same wine from 2009.

Good bottle. Very clean and pure. Purple and transparent. Nice bouquet. Needs time in decanter to show its full potential (+2h). Wild strawberries, roses, herbs, burnt underbrush and even a bit meaty with time in the glass. Very slim and elegant Gamay. Different from the 2009. The 2009 is more burgundian due to the fruit and the spicebox. Bigger body in the 2009. The 2010 will gain with age, and if you like elegance you have to try this Côte de Py. Lovely acidity and mineral carry this wine. Nice finish. Leave good flavours in the mouth. Wild strawberries, lingonberries and blueberries. Nice effort of Jean Foillard. I am sure this wine will develop well over the next 15 years.
