Dinner at Jims - An open that bottle night (Jim's): Totally wonderful, was a hit at the dinner. There is something about a Cabernet aged and in its prime where the fruit and complexity are there and the structure is pure velvet. Timing was right to open.

Highly enjoyable and at a great maturity plateau. Young and vibrant with juicy cassis, but with tertiary notes emerging. Soft and reasonably restrained.

Very happy the bottle survived a period of non-temperature control. Was afraid the bottle was lost, but it wasn't. Now it is hard for me to compare with other bottles as this was my one and only bottle and I haven't had it before, but it was great. Decant for 1.5 hours. After 2 - 2.5 hours when it was drunk it got too much air fast. So take that into account. Wine was really nicely ages. Slight haze med intensity. Med+ nose aged aroma. Some fruits still present, but nice leather and tobacco taking over. Some earth and french oak. Beautiful! As said, can't say if this is its prime, but if I had more, I'd drink now!

I expected more from this one. It was 'typical' as a Cabernet, but just not boat rocking. Black cassis driven nose and mouth with cola, black cherry and black raspberry. What was missing was depth and sense of presence. Alongside a 2006 Realm Farella, this lacked structure, class and breed. Don't get me wrong, I did not throw it out of bed, but I also did not stare admiringly at it as it left the bed.
Expectations can be problematic.

Smoldering black fruits with a long finish. It has been a couple of years since I have tasted and it is in prime drinking condition. The tannins have softened, but the fruit remains strong. Good stuff.

Celebrated fiancee's birthday at Viognier in San Mateo. While it breathed, we began the first of a five-course meal and sipped on a nice German Riesling (Spatlese). The first sniff of the Mondavi evoked memories of tastings in Rutherford (right next door to Oakville). A nose to die for and a beautiful taste (blackberry and cherry) that lasted for 20 seconds. We drank this over two hours. Would be nice to find another bottle of this!

A beautiful wine. Black fruit and earth. Well balanced with soft tannins.

Wow, gobs of black fruits and cassis. Definite oak on the finish but not an oak monster...more like vanilla creme. At a great spot now to be enjoying.
