Fresh and dry fennel, cranberries, thyme in a Fantastic mix on the nose. Still fresh dark fruit character . Dry tannins, but in a pleasant way, chalky Sangiovese tones in the end. Long and pleasant taste.
After 30 min in the glass the temperature picked up that increased the dryness of the tannins. Don’t decant te wine at this point and drink it a few degrees below normal. Then you will have a pleasant experience

Wonderful ripe Tignanello. Dark color, balsamic nose. Round and harmonious bouquet of cherry, coffee, vanilla, a bit chocolate accompanied by a lovely sweetness. Long and round finish. In a super spot right now. I am not sure how long the wine will last: too good to not drink it now!

Given the vintage I did not decant this wine. Ruby red in color. 13.5% ABV. 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Gorgeous nose of dried red fruits, leather, tar and flowers. Medium body with medium acidity. Refined and elegant. Cherries, anise, tobacco and graphite on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long and silky. Tremendous wine from a challenging vintage. Not the best Tignanello but so much to like here. Drink over the next 2-4 years.

Still alive and well. Interestingly, I have several 2003 Italian wines and none has shown evidence of fading despite all of the warnings. I have recently had 03 Cepparello, Sammarco and Tig. I still have a Sammaco, a Tig, and a La Pergola Torte to drink. I will keep everyone posted.

This was so perfect with homemade Osso Bucco over creamy polenta. Leathery, cigar ash nose with a hint of anise. Mid palate was herbal/rosemary. Long pretty tart cherry finish. Got better in the glass after hours and was sad to take the last sip.

(Decanted for two hours) Deep red colour with a lovely maturing nose showing sweet cherries, leather, licorice and a delicious hint of truffles. Palate feels very accessible with smoothing tannins, sweet cherries and a nice long and warm finish. This was very pleasant with a grilled T-bone steak tonight and should keep well for many years to come. Best 2018-2033.

This needed some air upon opening but came around nicely. Still some tannins with a bite. On the nose, raisiny and cumin seeds come out. Good fruit on the palate, rich and fulfilling. Drinks nicely now, and should stay here a couple more years.

Mamma Mia...our first tignanello and it was amazing! And this was a straight PnP at a restaurant...maybe waited 20 minutes in the glass before starting to consume. The length went on and on...can’t wait to delve into the 2004!

Dark red/violet color. Wonderful nose of dark fruit, earth, spice. The palate is smooth, balanced and yet good gripping tanins with plum, black cherries, not as complex as I hoped. Decent but not great finish. The acidity and depth of flavors did helped to go well with a pasta caprese with decent amount of lemon and grilled lemon chicken. Paired very well but not a great QPR.

Complex nose: dark fruit, raisin, savoury, meat , smoke, hint of balsamic, slightly burnt fruit note. On the palate, great length with dark fruit, cocoa, medium plus length. Can hold for another 5 to 10 years.

Crimson in color with a signature Tignanello nose. Body is lighter than expected with modest complexity. Drink now or hold a few more years, just hitting its stride.

2015 Family Xmas; 12/24/2015-12/25/2015 (Alicante): An extra-dry Tignanello. Any trace of the famous heat. Very Sangiovese on the nose, meaty, deeply and oaky. Palate is dry yet savoury and elegant, delicate even. Iron fist in silk glove? Close to. Roasted lamb was a good mate.
Bastante cerca. Una paletilla de cordero rompió la pana.

Brickred colour. Incipient maturity showing leather and morello cherries. Refined palate showing violets and tannines that are starting to soften Feels really good right now but should cellar well.
WSET Diploma Graduation (Fix St. James, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Rapid taste as the bottle was being whisked away and I managed to squeeze a splash into a spare Champagne flute. Aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, sweet spice. On the palate the wine lacks a bit of acidity which lends a bit of a flabbiness. The fruit carries through a still impressive amount of tannin. Balanced despite the lack of acidity. Hmm.

Unmistakably Tuscan, it is starting to mature nicely, though from a hot vintage it is not evident to me. Good work with wood (as always), polished and perfectly balanced. Decanted and needed and hour to start shining. My personal thoughts on this is that the wine is well made but definitely overpriced.
Mature, well made Tignanello from an obvious hot vintage. Tobacco, licorice, gravel, cherries, blackberries and toast on the nose; medium full bodied on the palate, barely sufficient acidity, drying out on the finish. Drink well now, will continue tot do so within the next 2-4 years.

Stewed cherry, cassis, rust, tomato, graphite and smoked meat on the nose. Full bodied and smooth palatal presence with mid-level acidity and rather ripe fruit. Tobacco, chocolate, rust and graphite. Long dusty finish. Mediocre showing. Could definitely use more structure and intensity.
A lot of currant and plum up front, nice smooth texture and long finish. I don't think this wine has a lot of life - maybe 8 years max. I didn't get a lot of tannins although it was popped and poured.

While the wine was very enjoyable, it just didn't taste as characteristically Tign as I expected. Maybe i was distracted by the clown show that was Fiamma in Las Vegas. Sommelier can't even smell the wines late alone taste them. Food was meh, management was invisible.

Good showing at wine group dinner at Two Chefs, although no one guessed Italian. I thought it had a class sangiovese nose Richness and length. Approachable but still has solid tannins with much life ahead. First bottle of a half-case from this vintage -- very pleased

Not as aromatic or expressive as I would have expected for the price point/reputation. We did just have it shipped a little under a week ago so there is a chance it may have been subdued from being jostled.
Dark purple color. Light aromas with plum and a hint of oak. Medium acidity, slightly jammy but very smooth medium-plus body, predominate flavors are leather and plum with an extended finish. I thought this drank like a nice Merlot even though the blend is supposed to be Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon & Cab Franc.
It is definitely ready to drink.

Superbe!

Dazzling! Deep ruby, dense. Nose of clean earth and dark/ripe fruits, not particularly intense. Palate: excellent body, i.e., not lightish like a Sangiovese, but not heavy either like a Cab. Nicely acidic, high level of smooth yet grippy/textured tannins; loaded with earthy, umami and minerally (iodide/seaside) notes. Perfectly balanced and perfect abbinamento with dinner of polenta integrale, salsicce, e funghi porcini. Outstanding now, but certainly has several more years of bottle age before decline. Best Tignanello in my experience.

My first Tignanello. Expectations aside this was an ok bottle of wine, if not a little tired. Immediately upon opening the nose is rich and forward. Loads of black cherry, plums, tobacco and damp earth. The palate started out quite nicely with good concentration and left the impression of a seriously built wine with no signs of fatigue - on the rich side but not very complex. Didn't really scream for air but I had opened it quite a few hours before planned consumption so I let it breathe in the decanter for 4-5 hours. Big mistake! After aeration the wine seemed tired - the fruit had faded and what was left of it was bordering on over-ripe with pruny/raisiny fruit. Very soft on the tannins and only adequate acidity. Very easy to drink but unimpressive. Quite dissapointing. Drink up!

Decanted for one hour. Almost opaque ruby red with a garnet rim, some sediment and tartaric crystals. Ripe, dark fruit and cherries on the nose followed by oak, meat, smoke and spices. Full-bodied on the palate, the overall feel is somewhat dry but not harsh any more, the tannins slightly dominate towards the end. Long, pure finish. I'm not an expert on Tignanello but I doubt the longevity of this vintage, if I had more I'd drink them over the next five years. 91+

I guess I am in minority when I say that this wine is better than the 2004, which I was quite dissapointed in. I can also be that this wine has hit maturity much earlier than expected. The 2003 has a great balance of the coffee oak, tuscany cherries and great acididy and mouthfeel. No stressed 2003 tannins here! Great wine, but maybe the name Tigananllo doesn't give so many extra points these days. The value at 60 euro can be discussed.

Vintage Tignanello Tasting (Louise's House): This wine shows a clear opaque core with a bright ruby rim. The nose is very expressive with lots of pencil lead, black pepper, anise, thyme and earthy notes wrapped up in a blanket of fresh black fruits. Dry palate with an abundance of sweet black fruits that attack the tongue. This wine is still pulling itself together, It is evident in the very structured tannins that show their youth awkwardly while the acidity seems a bit light and out of step at this stage. The long tannic finish is lovely and exhibits cedar, Nicaraguan tobacco, current and black pepper. Honestly this is very tasty but there is so much more life ahead. Drink from 2018. Outstanding Quality. 91 pts.

It is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Deep purple, with brown edges. Sweet jammy nose. Full bodied, with melted tannins and flavors of home made cherry liqueur, overriped red fruits, cedar, nuts, licorice, sweet spices and luxury oak. The finish lasts about 20 sec.

After a disappointing encounter with the '98 Tig last week, I decided to try another 'weak' vintage I have in my cellar. This time I was more lucky:-)
Popped and poured. Deep ruby color. Full aromas of bramble, cassis and some leather and lead pencil, slight hints of mint and roses. Full bodied with mouth coating, silky-smooth, tannins and ripe fruit. A long finish that echoes the initial aromas and remains fresh throughout. Very balanced and smooth, still quite some structure left. Drink now - 2014.
This is much more the Tignanello that I've come used to from the '99 and '01 vintages. Only a bit less explosive an fresh. But nicely complex and refined.

I have not yet drunk this and I already am enjoying it. How? We are in Bellagio, on Lake Como, and bought it in an enoteca near the hotel. When we told the salesman we were drinking it tonight in the hotel he gave us a box with two glasses and a decanter, all fine quality comparable to my near best at home, and said we should decant for 30 minutes at least. He asked us just to bring back the glasses and decanter before we leave.
When has this happened to you in the US? Me? never... ever. We are already loving this wine and this country and this town.......The wine was delicious, and kept improving as long as we drank it, highly recommended.
ciao, buon giorno.

Straight from bottle this was slightly disjointed with some rather raw oak dominating. After 48 hours air in the remaining half bottle this was much more coherent, with a medium-bodied but curiously chewy toasty licorice character. Strong cabernet presence in this Tig. Smooth and silky palate gets a little roughed up on the finish by some grippy tannins. A little baked this one - very nice wine by most standards but not a great bottle of Tig. Now-2015?

Nice dark cherries on the nose. Taste is a nice medium body with dark berries and a touch of smoke. Wine is extremely smooth with very smooth tannins. In the beginning the wine appears surprisingly smooth, but after a while i personally find that it turns out a bit too "jammy", and I am missing a bit more edge on the finish. Good wine, but too pricey. I have tasted other super Tuscans half price of this wine.

Damn this is why I don’t buy one of anything anymore. Clearly WON at our New Years Eve Italian Fest. I love the “We’ll call it Super Tuscan because I don’t want to make my wines from just Sangiovese”. Decanted for five hours. Not young or old the 03 had that earthy, dusty nose that you would expect from a Sangiovese but then that something extra from the cab. This wine is heaven in a glass. My wife’s wine of the year. Paired with Boar’s Head prosciutto Veal Saltimbocca and an insane reduction sauce of pan juices deglazed with pinot grigio, butter and capers.

Aah, oozes class already when I'm decanting. Spicy Sangiovese flavours, dark, sweet cherries, pipe tobacco, a little herbal twist and a touch of cinnamon and ginger. With food - filet de boeuf, chanterelles, potato gratinée and a madeira reduction with fresh sage in it - it's brilliant. So full, but yet delicate and elegant. The dark cherries are lovely, the acidity is right, tannins are melted but not all the way down, the pipe tobacco and spiciness get enrichened by a little mushroomy feeling. Lovely, and I'm a bit surprised that a 2003 was so elegant.

Cracked this one in honour of young Alistair Wright, our newest CT'er. Congrats and best wishes to Wrighty and all the family. So on with the TN...
Deep colour but wonderfully vibrant in the glass, very fine legs. Plenty of licquorice, plum and toasted oak on the nose with just a dash of sea salt. Very ripe. Medium bodied with plenty of acidity. Tannins while quite fine, are very evident, plus a touch of heat. May indicate early harvest in this very hot year? A little closed but lots of creamy fruit sitting just beneath the solid structure waiting to spring to the fore. Real dry sangiovese tang, some sage and a hint of tobacco on the loooong finish. Needs to open up a little but really very good.

I would agree with the public AVG on this wine; following a 1-2 hour decant. Dark and radiant crimson red. Ruby on the edge. Barnyard and herb on the nose upon open, but this opened up in two hours to some nice cherry, herb, menthol, and oak. The flavors paired well with a sweet red sause and meatball pasta dish. My interpretation was a serious Chianti on Steroids at first, but this mellowed into a really nice glass. I am not sure it's my cup of tea, but a different red wine experience. My taste is more to Barolo and Barberesca.

Caroline Wine Shop - Italy-Tuscany (Carolines Wine Shop): The aromatic profile is captivating with rich, piquant notes of black cherry and blackberry preserve beautifully intertwined with saddle leather, caramel and prune juice. A warm, sweet and fresh entry this is an intense classy wine with depth and refinement. Seamlessly integrated with tannins and a long, complex finish, it exhibits fabulous acidity that runs through the wine, contributing to its excellent concentration and long length. A blend of mainly 85% Sangiovese, 10% CS and 5% CF.

As with most of Europe, 2003 was an extremely hot vintage throughout the country. While the heat was severe in Tuscany, it caused fewer problems with Sangiovese and Montepulciano than Nebbiolo. Harvesting results were good in August, with production quantities were slightly lower due to lack of water (no irrigation is allowed). Tuscan wines from this vintage will provide very good early to medium term drinking.
Tasted in Singapore. 13.5%. Blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to full-bodied. Layered tobacco, blackberry and blackcurrant + jam. Mouth-filling silky tannins with a deliquescent sensation and some sweetness to round off a rounded tannic and persistent finish. Would be enjoyable in another few more years. Drink between 2010 and 2016. For the rest of my write-up, tasting notes and wine photography, please visit www.winekakis.com.

Excepcional. 93+

Bottle did not seem to have any defect but wow this wine was dull. Typical cab fruit profile which was weird because i think the sangiovese makes up more of the blend. Very smooth but a big lack of complexity. I want to try another bottle to see if it will be better.

Shared this wine with my wife and 2 close friends and fellow wine affecionados. Decanted for 18 hrs. Not enough time! This is a big Super Tuscan. After decanting, just started to get Sangoivese Grosso. Wonderful hints of tart cherry and worn, supple leather. Cab Sauv and Cab Franc were still overshadowed. Very tight on the palate. Sangiovese was predominiate and starting to come into its own. This is a true keeper and I look very forward to having this in a couple more years. I would say that 2007 is too early for this wine.

Not sure when this was released. A friend brought this over for dinner. We threw it into the decanter for about 45 minutes. Initially very tight. It opened up nicely to present dark berry, graphite and some sort of subtle spice that I can't pick out. Very good though a step down from some of the other Tig vintages.

Had at BICE (new restaurant at the brand new Camino Real hotel in Monterrey) with Paty and Chuck.
Service is awful at this venture. Waiters are clumsy, unknowledgeable and ineffective, despite the fact there were only 4 tables in the whole place. Their wine list is very limited (they think it's great), has no vintages shown and lists wines they don't have a single bottle of despite the fact the restaurant opned less than a week ago. Finally, they don't allow to BYOB despite the very obvious limitations and flaws in their wine list. I could teach the wine director at this place a thing or two. Food, on the other hand is acceptable. My pasta dish with foie gras and black truffles was good. The overall dining experience is dissapointing, and i won't be going back any time soon if I have a choice.
Onto the wine. I was dying to taste this wine based on several recommendations and despite a lackluster rating by The Wine Advocate. Deep ruby color that hints to the heat-laden vintage it is a product of. The nose is riper and fruitier that previous vintages, and is also different with respect to the fruit profile. In the previous vintage of Tignanello that I have had (1997 included), a red fruit (raspberry and red cherry) profile was predominant despite the small cabernet sauvignon component. The 2003's nose profile is primarily black fruits. It also offers earhty and cedary notes that bring you to Europe. This is medium to full bodied, riper and thicker than other Tignanellos I've had before, but it's still pretty good. I believe this wine will develop very interesting aromatics with 8-10 more years of age.

Friend brought over this young big boy and I was surprised by its elegance. We popped and poured into a decanter - the bottle was cellar temperature when my friend arrived. Initially we got a nose of tobacco and black cherry, but the palate was elegantly filled with plum and currant. We had the bottle open and in the decanter for a couple hours... towards the end of the night it showed some floral notes on the nose (rose) and the finish had closed down a little. In general, this was a very smooth wine with sweet tannins and delicious black fruit.

Very pleasant wine which was deep red, almost purple. More fruit forward than other Tignanello wines I have had, and still fairly tannic--young. Wonderful finish that exhibited a bit of creme brulee. Give this some time. Great potential. Had alongside a 2001 Tenute Silvio Nardi, Vigneto Manachiara, Brunello di Montalcino. Slightly preferred the Tignanello.

Tasted August 5, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served in a Reidel Restaurant Magnum glass. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of minerals, white pepper, fresh flowers and blackberries. Flavors of black berries, black licorice and black cherries. Medium acidity with medium to firm tannins. Medium bodied. Let this one age for another year or two before trying again. Should have more to offer at that time.

This was so perfect with homemade Osso Bucco over creamy polenta. Leathery, cigar ash nose with a hint of anise. Mid palate was herbal/rosemary. Long pretty tart cherry finish. Got better in the glass after hours and was sad to take the last sip.

Deep red colour with a lovely maturing nose showing sweet cherries, leather, licorice and a delicious hint of truffles. Palate feels very accessible with smoothing tannins, sweet cherries and a nice long and warm finish.
This was very pleasant with a grilled T-bone steak tonight and should keep well for many years to come.
Best 2018-2033.

Drink up!

Full-bodied on the palate, the overall feel is somewhat dry but not harsh any more, the tannins slightly dominate towards the end. Long, pure finish. I'm not an expert on Tignanello but I doubt the longevity of this vintage, if I had more I'd drink them over the next five years. 91+

He asked us just to bring back the glasses and decanter before we leave.

Now-2015?

With food - filet de boeuf, chanterelles, potato gratinée and a madeira reduction with fresh sage in it - it's brilliant. So full, but yet delicate and elegant. The dark cherries are lovely, the acidity is right, tannins are melted but not all the way down, the pipe tobacco and spiciness get enrichened by a little mushroomy feeling. Lovely, and I'm a bit surprised that a 2003 was so elegant.

Longo. Bom potencial de evolução, mas já agradável. 92+pts. E/E.

No formal note. Drank on honeymoon in Montalcino. Conentrated, Faint smoke and violets, currants, tar and leather. Fair amount of acid. Obviously young. On day two vanilla and leather were developing. On this showing have ordered some more.

A lot of tannines left, needs a couple of more years of cellaring to mature and open up more.

Mighty Mike Pours some wines: Those are some big tannins on this one... Not really time to enjoy, but seems very nice, although not spectactular. High 80's?

Consumed after a bottle of 1992 Bryant Pritchard Hill - not a bad encore, but certainly not a good. Still, this wine was an excellent compliment to our dinner.

Not decanted .Nice fullbodied wine with a lot of red fruit in the nose. A bit of Bdx in the mouth (of course), thanks to the Cabernet blend. This will last for many years, but good to drink now.
