Has moved wonderfully into secondary, with ripe black plums, black licorice, iodine, soy sauce and nori notes throughout. Still has the precision of its youth. Didn’t require a decant. Drink now to 2026. Outstanding.

Rich nose, of ripe fruit, hint of green roasted peppers, vanilla baking spices. Ripe fruit full bodied, structure is excellent and balanced. Vanilla, roasted fruit, cedar finish. This wine was decanted an hour.

Wow, essence of syrah! Midnight purple with pungent aromatics of blackberries, boysenberries, Indian spices, and a bit of toasty oak. This wine rocked it on the palate with an opulent mouthful of juicy dark fruit, licorice and spice. Long teeth-staining finish. Thoroughly hedonistic and in the zone. Not sure if there is further upside from here given the tannins seem to have been fully subsumed into the fruit.

Drank from a magnum that was decanted 3 hours then poured back into the bottle. Overall ready to go but maybe another year until peak. Slightly funky on the nose with a seafood/ocean note that lingered. No issue with the palate which was dense and opulent (dark fruited with milk chocolate). A little less extracted/full than more recent years of this.

really intense aromatics and big/dense fruit on the palate which is kind of expected. Really aggressive upfront but massive long finish.
Definitely a muscled styled type of wine if you seek it, probably not for the faint of heart or those who crave acidity. Good for my tastes though since there is a time and place for styles.

Big wine. Had it 4 days later and it was still fruit forward and intense. I sense the bit of iodine in the finish. I do enjoy these Syrah's and find them almost port like. I wish I had an idea of how long they lasted, but the 2013 was just a baby. I did not find any secondary characteristics but lots of grape, black raspberry, tobacco, and some tar. I believe this is made in the style of sin qua non, although I've never had that wine.

Into a decanter for 10 hours then consumed over the next 4. Major extraction here but done with precision. Flavors are deep but do not overwhelm. Rather than syrupy or cloying, there is a sense of elegance to this beast, perhaps due to a soft tannic structure but exacting acidity. If one enjoys this style, this wine should be experienced. Impressive.

Braxton Cellars Cellar Raid (Libertyville, IL): Much more smokey and savory than the 2014. Gray peppercorns, purple plummy fruit. Big big bold wine. Tasty and rich but still some nice acid and lift on the finish. This will age for a couples decades with ease I'd imagine.

Good Wine with a Boring Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Social walk-around tasting, brief note. Massively unctuous and ultra concentrated with so much fruit that I find it a little too sweet and slightly off balance. A few sips are enjoyable, but I couldn't enjoy much more.

Our first wine of the New Year, and what a treat. This bottle was more generous and open for business than other TNs have described. Bacon fat and beef blood in the bouquet, followed by gobs of black fruits — blackberries, plums, currants. Crazy weaving of Asian spices throughout, especially sandlewood. A long lusty finish, touched with flecks of cedar. A big Syrah, but never out of balance. Drink now to 2025. Outstanding!

Extremely concentrated black fruit with tertiary notes of spices, but still maintains balance and manages to show no hint of its high ABV. Not subtle, but not a fruit bomb, either. Kind of sexy. Silky on the palate, not heavy as I might have expected. Better on night 2. Will be interesting to see where this goes over the next 5+ years.

Decanted for 3-4 hours. Still not enough and needed more time. Ripe and rich, you can sense the alcohol was there. Some spice and a lot of chocolate. Complexity wasn’t as high as I was hoping I guess - worth the list price but I don’t think $200+.

Blind Syrahs at Chevalier (Chicago, IL): Served blind. Inky black color. Gorgeous nose of sexy black fruit with asian spice and brown sugar. A hedonistic mouthful of rich, decadent fruit with good balancing acids. Dark chocolate accents to the spicy fruit. Somehow retains a bright, even elegant, quality. Was guessing SQN all the way. Apparently made by a former SQN assistant winemaker, hence the resemblance. SQN lovers would probably score this 3-5 points higher.

I gave this a 98 because I have to give it score room to move up to over time. Full plus bodied wine with black fruits, chocolate, spice, and graphite. The tannins were soft even for a wine with 15% alcohol which you cannot sense. It was delicious with lamb chops showing a two minute finish. Thankfully, I have one more bottle.

Opened by LostVerse. 85% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre and 4% Viognier. Aged for 23 months in 62% new French oak barrels. Decanted for 12 hours. Another big wine at this dinner. Purple black color. Notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and blackberry syrup. A little heat on the finish but i did not think this detracted from the wine at all. This wine will last decades. 94+ points.

Decanted for 5 hours. Really spectacular stuff that needs a few more years to mellow. The nose is hot at first but packed with herbaceousness, fresh berries, and plenty of violets. Enjoyable at about hour 4 but obviously better in 5 plus years.

Bevan, Andremily, and Jaffurs (Watching the NCAA Final Four) (Home): I knew I would be drinking this over two nights, so I opened one just to check it out. Wow. Purple in color. The nose is open and gorgeous. Black raspberries, grilled meats, roasted meats, white pepper and minerals. Lovely. On the palate, lush big texture. It also has the lightness of being Saxum wines sometimes have. Powerful yet deft. Black raspberries, grilled meats and peppery. Great balance. Long finish. I had to had the bottle from my wife so we could each have a glass on day 2. It actually had shut down just a bit. Some vigorous swirling revived it. So easy to drink. Just an amazing wine. My guess is in 5 years this scores 100 points from me.

2013 Andremily Syrah Decanting I'm getting a wave of scents, violet, than tart cherry, than asphalt. Its all I can do to walk away and not start drinking, such will power. Need a diversion, play some vinyl, sound track from "Lucky Man", feel lucky today. Get in my car and go to the car wash, can't believe it, feels like spring, and not a single speed trap. Its time, into the big glass it goes. Nose has settled on cherries and pepper. First sip, push through the hint of pine straw, than its attack of the berries. As expected for one so young, she is a bit hot tempered, but the sweet fruit makes the heat worth it. Long finish, leaves a trace of tannins behind fighting with the fruit for supremacy. Big wine, no defects, its power is addicting.
