Dark purple colour. Loads of dark fruits and earth taste. Opened up nicely in the glass after an hour. Smooth tannin. Drank right after 1997 Leoville Poyferre with lamb and beef main courses. I certainly like this better than the Leoville Poyferre.

Fairly shy nose, on the palate sweet toned black currant, hints of licorice, a bit creamy, mouldy earth but clean and pure expression, just lovely orange peel flauvors, the lowish acidity is in harmony with the subtle fruit and the combination makes this nicely fresh, tannins are still there but do not override fruit. This is light and not as extracted as stronger vintages but the basic quality of GPL is so good that even a lesser vintage such as this can be very enjoyable. Glad to have one more bottle.

Digging into my Bordeaux Collection, Aroma: Cedar, figs, tobacco Palate; herbaceous, mint, green pepper, oak, Finish: Medium, after being opened the tannins are bigger, slight bitterness, baking spices Overall: delivered more than I expected. Drinking at Peak, Matched nicely with Passover brisket.

Not a deep red on the pour, aromas of blackberries. faint smoke, and cherries. Light on entering but held a solid flavor through the mid and back of the palate. Enjoyed more for its style than power.

Mid garnet. Slightly cloudy. Light body. Notes of cocoa and coffee. Has some tertiary notes. Lacks the concentration one might expect from a GPL in a warmer vintage.

I agree with Mary K. Enjoyed this last night with Prime Sirloin steaks, sauted onions & mushrooms and asparagus on the side. Very balanced with leather & pencil notes. A star of the evening for sure!

My incredibly positive impression is a dissent from the norm here. Light, almost burgundy like, but less “watery” than etheral. The fruit was still very much alive, as was the Paulliac pencil-lead thing. The nose was gorgeous, and the flavors are lingering now, an hour later, in my memory and — somewhere — on the palette. Special wine.

Interesting nose of red fruit, band aid and spice. A bit too much Brett in this. Palate shows nice fruit and some brett. Very nice. Still young. Acker auction, Marea.

Decanted for an hour and drank over two evenings. Starting to brown at the edges, but still holding up nicely. Still very much alive and tannic. Graphite, wood, tobacco, leather and spice. Tart cherry aftertasted. Less fruit than a recent vintage, but this thing is still kicking. Not a long tail, but satisfying nonetheless.

Fairly straight forward. Lacks some complexity. A bit muted and the nose seemed quite commercial. Until some lamb chops were added to the mix. It all changed then. All the fruit popped out. Some dark, some red. Slight tannic grip rounded by the fat from the lamb and the finish was brief by lively.

Decanted 30-60 minutes, which made a difference. Somewhat brownish colour, ripe fruit on the nose and smooth on the palate but also rather rustic. Medium to full body. Probably should have decanted longer.

Bordeaux at Basil's (Basil's in Minneapolis): Nose: Lots of pencil lead, and scorched earth with more fruit showing with aeration. Palate: Very nice muted red fruits with a little bacon and earth. Not a great Pauillac, but nice.

1995 / 19956 Bordeaux Offline (Alba, London): Quite smooth and rounded. Glycerin. Very very short but smoth and al there whilst in the mouth. Fab food wine. Might be blsnd but not offensive. A great wine suited to food.

Delicious sweet nose, with red berries, milk chocolate and mocca.Medium bodied with sweet fruit, nicely integrated tannins. Chocolate, sweet tobacco. This '97 has now reached its plateau and shows that this year could indeed produce delicious, albeit not great, wine.

Drinking very nicely now. Tobacco and graphite aroma, with maybe just an ever so slight vegetal note. Elegant on the palate, great mouthfeel. The berry flavors might be a touch dilute, lacking in concentration, but overall this was a very pleasant wine. Matched with rare prime rib.

Clear lightish brown red color. Nice light oaky Bordeaux nose.
Burnt rubber, woody, burnt oak. Toasty tannins, stone cherry. Lightish with some barnyard. Not very concentrated, not fruity. Some herbs behind. dominated by black, tarry dark, butter. Lightish but not tannic. Not seeing a big future for this. C+ aspiring to B--

Medium/deep ruby core, medium garnet rim. Medium intense, slightly closed blackcurrant nose, with vanilla and earthy hints. A medium bodied wine with moderate tannins and medium/medium+ acidity. This is balanced by quite intense cassis fruit, with vanilla notes persisting on a good length finish. This is good/very good and has the concentration to improve over the medium term.

Nose filled with oriental spices and herbs. Very nice wine and underrated by WA (87) and WS (81) in my opinion. Tart cherry notes. Intricate flavor profile with a long finish. The surprise of the tasting. 91-92 points.

Vanilla, red currants, cherries and mulled cider nose. Med-full with good flavour replays but it has the typical hollow mid palate of the 1997's. Structured tannins; good length. Short to mid-term ageing.
