230324: Celebrating DQ's Bday at Uovo Asador with immacutely curated menu and wines by birthday boy himself. My bottle tb which I popped 2 hrs before & bottle breathe. Nose: Blackberries, black cherries, and plums, accompanied by notes of dried fig & herbs, black pepper, with a subtle touch of smoky oak. Well-integrated tannins with concentrated flavors of ripe black fruits. Very classic Northern Syrah with showing layers of complexity with hints of licorice, spices, and a touch of earthiness

Softer, with an elegant aged leather baseball glove. Fruit is gorgeous. Really, really pretty fresh picked ripe red cherries. Definitely the most Bordeaux esque of the Rhônes I’ve ever had. For the starfuckers out there, this is a 100 pointer. @ Oiji Mi

Needs long decant(8-12 hours) to work off some rubber, and wet cardboard. Also, a touch too polished/modern out of gate but the long decant will bring out welcomed, traditional notes. Once nose cleans up, the fruit is pure and understated. Elegant and light-bodied.

50 ANNI AIS PIEMONTE (TORINO MUSEO DELL' AUTOMOBILE): Da Magnum. Verdure bollite, prugne e cuoio. Sugo di carne e mostarda. Bocca glicerica, ovattata e oleosa. Tannino perfettamente compiuto e vellutato. Finale di erbe amare e sale che amplifica e distende il sorso. Molto buono e easy

A wonderful wine; dark red; expressive nose, lots of dark red fruit, licorice; deep, dense, concentrated, expressive, a bit austere and lacking that last bit of complexity and flavours, but nevertheless very good and extraordinary

Good color. The nose is a bit more fruity, showing dark red and purple fruits, flowers, and hints of pepper. This is full bodied on the palate, with liquor like concentration and good finesse. The long finish shows riper tannins and a little less acidity. Very approachable.

Opened by Dantherhonefan. 100% Syrah from 50 year old vines. Young tasting and showing no signs of being 10 years old. My favorite red of the night. Garnet color with smokey fruit aromas. Notes of ripe currants, berries and some jamminess. I also tasted some bacon fat nuances which I attribute more to Cote Rotie. Velvety texture. Delicious now but absolutely no rush to drink this. 94-95 points.

Aromas of dark fruit, tapenade and spice that got more full and pronounced over the course of the evening all the while holding smoked meat undertones. Medium-to full-bodied with slightly austere tannins and flavors of spice, red fruit, roasted game, pepper and currants. Red fruit and spice notes on the lingering finish. Needs a few years yet; drink from 2018+. 93+ pts.

Opened by Dan at Adelle's. Cherry and red fruit notes, with some leather and bacon in there as well. There was something sweet on the finish that detracted ever so slightly for me. A real beauty - thanks Dan. 94+

In the bouquet a bit organic and barnyard impressions. The tannin is completely dissolved and smooth. Licorice root, concentrated and very pleasant acidity. Elegance and great length. Really beautiful and ready wine. After seeing what it was I was really surprised; I have tasted the 1999 of this wine and that will probably need another decade, but this wine is completely ready and so smooth.

Complex nose of hay, barnyard, delicious red fruit. Delicate mouth feel, ample balanced acidity, largely resolved tannin. Round and delicious. Just a fantastic wine, one of the best in memory.

Je pense que ce vin est entre deux eaux. Attendre au moins 5 ans à mon avis.
