Slow-oxed 2-1/2hrs in Burg glasses & btl prior to dinner. Semi translucent ruby red. All the class, balance & perfectly ripe fruit we were promised w/ this lauded vintage. Tonight this showed finesse, an elegant mix of red & dark fruit, minerality and tertiary mushroom & forest floor. 13.5% alc. Killer at age 18 & still some upside. Wish I had a couple more. Paid $40 on release.

I can do no more than entirely confirm MC's preceding detailed note. This is in a most agreeable place at the moment. After 30 mins decanting, a lovely expressive nose, and a delicious mouthful - well balanced, resolved fruit, still a bit of sweet raspberry but gentle vegetal notes that linger with pleasure. A good £18 worth en primeur.

I concur with the other two recent notes that this is drinking very well at the moment. My bottle was opened about 4.5 hours before drinking, and I felt the air did it many favors (as I usually do). Initial opening was somewhat generic pinot fruit, but with air it unfolded the earthiness and red fruits of this vineyard very nicely. The palate is squarely medium bodied, with crunchy fruits and good fruit density while also showing some early bottle sweetness. There's still a good swath of tannins left on the back end, so I would say that this is still in its early window of maturity. Very nice.

PnP into Burg glass & let breath for 75 minutes prior to dinner. PnP & drink might have been fine too. Might have slightly closed over time. Semi translucent ruby red. Such a big improvement over my btl from 3-1/2 years ago! The oak has integrated and this is now showing all the class, balance and perfectly ripe fruit we were promised when the 05 vintage was l released. Many 05s are still pretty stubborn but not this "lesser" Beaune climate. Tonight this was all finesse, elegant mix of red and dark fruit, & minerally tertiary mushroom & forest floor. Now I wish I had at least 3 more but one is better than none! 13.5% alc. Could drink the next today but I'll try to wait at least a couple more years and see if this has even more upside. Near release a lot of the Bouchard reds start out a little plump, rich and oaky. Better to sit on them a while! This is pretty killer at near age 15. 93pt+

Gave this 45 minutes. Dark fruit, good concentration, and overall I continue to like this wine but this bottle was slightly off the better bottles I have had, and there has been some bottle variation even in the same case. But overall it was a very good buy for the price and is now in its window and drinking well. Should hold for a while. A-

This is my last of 3 bottles and the wine is drinking well. Pop and pour to a fair shot of tannin but also quite a nice earthy mix of tart/sour cherry and currant. In the background forest floor, spiciness and nice minerality. Balanced acidity. All-in-all a nice Pinot that will compliment our dinner of grill-baked king salmon. I would not be afraid to hold these to follow further development although they are very enjoyable today.

PnP into Burg glass & let breath for 45 minutes prior to dinner before drinking. Medium dark ruby with color perhaps influenced by the oak treatment. For me this is more CA RRV like PN than Burgundy, at this point. Still has some definite oak notes to meld. As one would expect from an 05 it has very nice material and still needs at least 3 more years to show what we really love about Burgundy which is more finesse, mushroom and forest floor. A nice wine at this point but blind I'd likely pick it as CA PN from the RRV. Only reason I might guess Burgundy blind would be its relative acid via a pure CA PN blind. Showing a decent amount of cola tonight too which I rarely come across in Burgundy. This is a Premier Cru btl I picked up 2nd hand via TCWC for $40. I still have two other btls purchased on realease for $32 from Sherry Lehman back in the day. Drinking fine but nowhere near a rockstar yet. Alc listed as 11-14% Might as well not listed the Alc. Don't touch my next btl before 2020. I'm not in the habit of decanting Burgundy but it may help with this particular wine as others who raved about it, also decanted it. If I was to open another one soon, I'd definitely try that. Not for the tannins which are fine but to get it to open up more and hopefully integrate the oak better.

Still deep ruby color, some lightening at the rim. The aromas are nicely delineated here, with cherry, cranberry, and a distinct violet note. The palate shows substantial fruit density still, with medium acidity to keep things fresh, and a solid coating of firm tannins remaining. The finish is impressively long, and shows the structural elements and fruit in fine balance. This is drinking quite well now, although it still needs another 3-5 years for the tannins to continue to integrate. All in all, though, this is somewhat anonymous in its expression.

As others have noted, this is in a really good place right now. Surprisingly secondary showing a lot of savory notes - olives, bacon to go with the dark cherry fruit. Bottle disappeared really quickly - will try to spend more time with my next bottle.
Drinking very well. One hour decant and consumed over two days. Pretty nose of spice and earth and some flowers. Bright palate with savory notes, dark fruit. Clean and long on the finish. Tannins resolved. Just entering a drinking window, and likely to improve.

At a wonderful stage of drinking window. It has both all the fruits and the secondary elements a surfacing. Stunning texture, lush and yet not heavy, deep yet flowery, peppery yet refined. It wraps your palate with a wonderful balance, and pleasure. Beaune 1er cru at its best.

We are getting there...popped and poured after warming to room temperature. This is starting to open up a bit. Still dark fruits and some forest floor on the nose, but the palate is starting to show some fruit and the oak and structure backing off a bit. A lot of fruit, good complexity beginning to appear on the nose, but the wood remains dominant. Will the oak resolve to something interesting with the great fruit? Not clear; wine could get much better with time if the wood integrates, or worse if not.

Medium deep ruby. Nose at time 0-oak. Nose at 3 hours-bacony, smoky oak. Subsequently, toned down oak and (finally) simple red fruit and a nice cinnamon note. Middle weight but more solid than the weight would suggest. Plenty of fruit, moderate acidity, but again, the finish is dominated by slightly astringent wood tannins. Some potential here given its stuffing, but I am skeptical about the wood fully receding and allowing the wine to fully show itself. This is becoming a depressingly familiar scenario with later vintage Bouchards.

Lots of wood on the nose, but some black fruit as well. A lot of material here, but young. Seems like it will be very nice with a few years of age. B+/A- Came back to this 3 and 4 days later - amazing how it held up and showed its stuff - with oak integrated (but noticeable) and lots of rich, sweet, sappy fruit. Makes me want to buy more as this should be a very good wine and hold for some time. B+/A-

On opening this wine showed a little reduction which quickly blew to reveal a little bit of a disjointed mess with the alcohol and wood sticking out quite a bit. An hour later this wine had come together nicely showing dark sweet fruits like plum and black cherry and nice length with the good structure buried by the fruit. Give this wine 5-7 years and try again.

Some very pretty fruit currently peaking out behind a lot of wood. Drnk exceedingly well at the end of the bottle, so well that it went down too fast!! Muted nose, deep red, very full palate with cherry, plum and earthy notes, soft tannins, too much oak at present but hopefully it will integrate with time.

This is closing down and should probably be put away for a few years. Previous bottles all showed great fruit, but that is harder to find right now. B/A-

Stinky nose with lots of toasted oak, this is a powerful Beune, reminds me of a Nuits St Georges. Surprised by the oak but there is so much fruit balance to support it
