Opened and poured in glass and let sit 1/2 hr. Then: A little bit of dark nose and even darker fruit taste. Finish is a bit strange, maybe a bit of olive and more intense. Tannins not an issue. No discernible cabernet taste or aroma. This is the 2nd bottle of this I had and based on notes of others, was expecting a lot more/better. The first bottle was exactly the same as this one. With each bottle, Day 2 was less pleasant and had more of an extracted taste. Rating based on Day 1.

Pop and pour. Aromas of blackberry, black currant bud, cherry, raspberry and bell pepper. Flavors of blackberry, black cherry, mocha, currant and a kiss of vanilla. Ends with a big blackberry finish of 25-30 seconds. Probably my last time having this vintage but just reaffirmed my previous notes. For those who love unabashed California cabs, this is for you.

Opaque violet with crimson tinge. Nose dark fruited with some anise. Palate brambly, some cassis, not oaky, surprisingly not too heavy. A mineral note, grapey. An herbal note with some time.

My thoughts keep varying on this one, but I quite enjoyed it this time around. Good, medium-bodied, almost sweetish, fruity California cab, with tastes of plums and pepper. Excellent to drink now. Depends on what you are in the mood for. If you are thinking opulent California blend or deep-purple thick California cabs, this will come across as too light. But if “heavy” isn’t for your palate today, but you don’t want to go to “light” either, this one might just hit the spot.

I find most Paso Robles reds to come in hot, and lacking character, so I was surprised that I enjoyed the Daou Cab as much as I did. It's ripe and jammy, sure, but the blackberry, boysenberry, oak, and spice notes are tasty (and not overdone), and a tarry/tannic bite on the medium/long finish adds depth. Good QPR.

Cabernet Sauvignon Holiday tasting (My house): Tasted blind with 5 other cabs. Did not show well compared to others. When we drank it alone later it tasted better. Wood and tannin stood out in the original taste which is weird as the Daou usually tastes grapey to many people.

85 Points USING THE CELLARTRACKER RATING SCALE: https://support.cellartracker.com/article/49-tasting-notes-and-ratings 85 is the top of "Good". Second of two bottles. This has an element of added sugar like Meoimi and other wines where the vintner is adding sugar. It was a good wine, though not anywhere as interesting and complex as their "Pessimist". It was not entirely varietally correct - blindfolded, I would not have thought it was a Cab, tasted like a Zin or Syrah. Very much a DRINK NOW and POP'N'POUR. I tasted very little oak... Wine mags really blew it on this wine. I don't see it worth the $$$.

Pop and pour. Better than I was expecting but still there is an overpowering sweet artificial sugar note. Nonetheless ripe red fruit, extracted vanilla, and game. Highly acidic on the finish almost burning on the way down. Another year might help this but the flavors seem there now.

I'd recommend decanting at least 2 hours at this point (Jan 2018). Dark berry and forest floor aroma. Not integrated yet - definitely needs time. Lots of oak. Medium tannin. Soft fruit flavors (cherry?) With some earthy undertones. A bit of cinammon. Relatively long finish. Dry. Optimal drinking window probably starts in 2020.

This has to be my favorite value cab at the minute. Aromas of plum, cherry, violets, cocoa and bell pepper. Flavors of blackberry, cherry, plum, mocha and a touch of herb. Ends with a 25-30 second finish. Definitely a classic California cab so old world fans probably won’t like it.

Lots of red fruit, blackberry, blackcurrant, soft tannins, great acidity makes for a very tasty approachable wine. Spicy oaky nose with very pretty morello and bing cherry fruit. In the mouth it's still about fruit and spice and the intensity level drops a notch, but is still balanced, pretty, and quite satisfying with just enough tannin. Alcohol a tad over 14% and not at all hot or jammy. A fine under-$20 California Cab that will please many fussy palates. 4+13+16+7

great, smooth cab. We got it for $27 a bottle and did a side-by-side tasting with the Prisoner. I liked the Prisoner better (I think it is some type of Zin blend) because of its fruit forward nose and taste. But, this DAOU is a solid cab worth the $27. Will drink again.

only $22.99. Amazing value. Easy purchase. Would repeat for sure. Easy win with dinner guests. Very plush with silky tannins. Yum. Loads of cassis, dark fruit on the nose and palate. Delicious chocolate velvet finish. There's just the right amount of sugar. Not terribly cloy /sweet like Sexual Chocolate. Lebanese boys making some wonderful wines!

P: Med, poss MF, body; ALMOST swtish frt (suspect threshold R.S.) with acidity attempting to balance it out; Long, very slightly tangy finish. Fairly standard low-level non-Napa Cali Cabernet: loads of vanilla, super ripe fruit with little varietal character. A little heavy and jammy, but not particularly sweet. I was Ok drinking a couple of glasses of this while watching the Superbowl with standard football fare of chips and dips and cheese and such, but didn't find it particularly enjoyable.

Interesting wine with lots of varied flavors, good fruit with adequate tannins, glycerin coats the glass, dark color, slightly unbalanced but it comes together as you drink it, good value, drank with steak, not a Napa cab but if you like a reasonably priced cab, you can't beat this wine, 14.1% alcohol.

I don't know how to rate this wine. It has a good fruity nose. In the mouth, it's intense with a lot of red and black fruits. It has a lot of menthol and acidity and a rather funky style. Acidity and cedar on the finish. It seems to have a lot of qualities but now I find it unbalanced and not so pleasant to drink. I will wait at least a year before opening another bottle.

Fruity by turn tannic by turn balanced, great bouquet, dark color, needs some time but vg now, evolved as we drank it, different style than many Napa cabs but we enjoyed with pork chops, will drink again, a very good value.

Big brooding wine. Deep purple in the glass. Quite viscous. Nose and palate are a bit one dimensional and hedonistic with boysenberry jam, cassis, blueberries, velvety milk chocolate, vanilla, bell pepper and hot wet earth. Full bodied with a medium finish that could've been helped out with some acidity. A pleasant weekday wine to be sure if you like this style.

P: MF body; Ripe, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an astringent pucker as it evolves into a fairly LONG, very, VERY slightly astringent finish. Over extracted for my palate, though some would love it, I'd drink now & over the next several yrs. Guess: '14 CA C.S. 90 pts Dunnuck, + 3 scores on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg. Deep-to-opaque ruby in color, this wine is intensely aromatic with black currants, bramble fruits, dark chocolate and baking spices. Full-bodied, round, seamlessly alcoholic (14.1%) and with plentiful silky tannins, it is packed with black fruit flavors and has excellent mid-palate density. Finishing with impressive length, this is even better than its 2014 predecessor. It will no doubt have broad appeal. Drink now-2023.

Decent dark fruit and savory spice nose and similar, but disjointed, palate that filled out after an hour+. Medium-short finish to start that lengthened as the night went on. Firm tannins that held strong throughout the night. This wine has nice potential with some time.

Aromas of bell pepper, blackberry, currant, and flowers. Nose has a lot going on. Flavors of blackberry, currant, chocolate, herb and hoisin sauce. Ends with a 25+ blackberry infused finish. This is easy drinks and actually has a great acidity. For the price I love it.

A nose of dark fruits and some spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Cab, with blackberry, cassis, cocoa, and spices on finish, a solid Cab. www.winelx.com

great, smooth cab. We got it for $27 a bottle and did a side-by-side tasting with the Prisoner. I liked the Prisoner better (I think it is some type of Zin blend) because of its fruit forward nose and taste. But, this DAOU is a solid cab worth the $27. Will drink again.

Ripe red fruits to it, full on the palate but still some acidity. Strikes a bit of a one tone fruit note to me on the palate.

only $22.99.

Not as good as the 14, but the nose is the same and it's not too bad for the price.

N: Berries, jam, notes of choc? Seems deep

P: Med body; NICE fruit with EXCEPTIONAL balance & decent length. While possibly not a keeper*, this shows wonderful elegance for the price, a $16.95 tasting "special"? 90-92 pts from WA a couple of months back. *This is sooooooooo OBVIOUSLY "young" with its fruit that I truly don't know WHAT to predict re its ageability.

Decent dark fruit and savory spice nose and similar, but disjointed, palate that filled out after an hour+. Medium-short finish to start that lengthened as the night went on. Firm tannins that held strong throughout the night. This wine has nice potential with some time.
