Still no sign of decay, and given the vintage, why should there be? A good ambassador for Bordeaux that doesn't force you to choose between paying rent and drinking wine.

Fully mature, this crowd pleasing style of wine was made from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Still showing good color, the wine offers scents of licorice, smoke, black cherry, earth and tobacco. The round finish leaves with dark, red fruits and thyme. The wine was simply popped and poured.

Disappointing, compared to the (several) bottles from the same dozen that we opened 6 months ago. Decanted, but seemed closed up and "neutral". Time to drink up?

Aroma and flavour intensity is both on the minus side. At first it seemed a bit closed but it really never opened up either. There are though some cherry and blackberry aromas, and if you dig in you'll find coffee and saw dust. Tannins are very oily with some bitterness to them. Balance is not all bad and it has flavours of dried cherry, figs and vanilla. Medium finish.

This is sturdy stuff. Classic Cabernet, leaves and earth, hint of menthol, structured and fresh, perfectly integrated oak, blackcurrants and spice, not opulent at all but with adequate stuffing, balanced and together, energetic and mineral, tannic backbone, juicy acidity, clean flavours, good length. Everything as it should be. Now - 2020.

Typical freshness of Bdx, aromatic and more full bodied than usual for this cuvee, clearly benefiting from the excellent 05 vintage. Has lots to give now, no sign of fatigue, drink or hold.

Mørk lilla farge mot litt rødt. Lukt av søte kirsebær, moreller og plommer. Rundt anslag. Intens og god fylde. Sorte og noen røde bær. Balansert og behagelig i munnen. Litt tanniner, men ikke tørrende. Litt, men ikke mye syre. En meget god vin.

Solid and sturdy Médoc, masculine, blackcurrants, earth, lovage and liquorice, ripe but not very refined tannins, balanced and flavoursome, not too extracted but not exactly charming either, good grip, energy and length. May develop a nice character of beef stew, but I suggest drinking this in the next five years.

Austere and astringent on night one. Open and interesting on nights two and three: blackberry, black currant, anise, black tea, and barnyard. Balanced acidity. Can't wait to try this again in a couple of years.

A UK bottle was slightly disappointing earlier this year. This was a bottle from my Italian cellar, and all together a better impression. Straight from opening this was engaging with blackcurrants and spice nose, and a clean fruit driven palate, in fact a good integrated rounded Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois. Say 15/20 in this category. Overall WoFW 13/20

My previous notes on this wine have been glowing for a cru bourgeois, but this bottle disappointed. Good deep colour with a blue rim, but little on the nose and competent but ordinary Bordeaux taste with no development in the glass. WoFW 12/20

Better than four months ago and everything it should be. Rich, ripe Cabernet fruit, oak well integrated, excellent balance. everything in place, tannic and fleshy, good sense of place and vintage, not the most complex or beguiling of wines but a lovely drink. At the end of the day it lacks some style/refinement for 90, hence my score of 89. Good QPR. Drink now - 2020.

Paired with the Camensac 2005. A much cooler and more Cabernet-dominated wine, slightly toasty oak, clean and transparent, medium weight, tannins still a bit grippy but is starting to find its balance, good fruit, you sense the cool and clayey terroir, has opened up considerably since a year ago, juicy, good length, not as impressive as 13 months ago. Now - 2020.

Again a typical and correct Medoc nose that shows promise, without being too complex. In the mouth acidity is good and tannins are kind, but the wine would benefit from some more concentration. Ok length. Jolly decent budget Medoc, but the the prize is up a but since previous vintages and I don't think it is worth the increase. I think perhaps the 2004 was a better wine with more structure.
