Right in the zone. Drank early in a long night of great wines, so I don’t have specific notes but it delivered on every sip, getting more expansive. In a stellar lineup one of our group called it his 2nd favorite WOTN, and another said this is in its peak window. I agree and and would be pulling corks before you miss out on the greatness

A 2005 Ramonet that isn't premox'd. Winner winner already. Nose had lovely fruit notes of apple, peach, and some honeycomb. Palate showed quite a bit of oak initially, mellowing out with air. I also got some honey and nuttiness on the back end of the palate. Acidity is present but doesn't dominate. With air though, the wine just flourishes and expresses beautiful fruit for days. Priviledged to have tried this.

A small gathering with COVID safety measures at Bryan's (Undisclosed location in McLean, VA): Expressive extremely youthful nose displaying incredibly concentrated yellow and white fruit, white peach, a hint of pineapple, fresh lemon juice, beeswax, spicy spices, white flowers and crushed rock. Unbelievable concentration, layers upon layers of perfectly ripe sweet yellow fruit, rich and dense, an incredible amount of extract, medium acidity, strong limestone mineral and a long concentrated slightly coiled yellow fruit driven finish with beeswax and limestone at the end. There is a hint of alcohol at the end. This clearly expresses the 05 ripeness. This is a powerful concentrated wine, a bit closer to Batard than Chavalier.

From 75cl. Ramonet’s 2005s have taken their time to get going with even the Ruchottes still in need of more time. Hence i was expecting this to be on the backward side. I wasn’t disappointed. Decanted and then served 2-24 hours later.
On opening, a light green/ gold colour. The nose was pretty mute and the palate every tight but immense.
After two hours, citrus, white flowers, mint and chiffon cake on the nose. The palate opened up nicely but still maintained a tight core of stone and minerals. A huge mouthful.
A day later, this is singing. The acidity, minerality and litheness associated with younger Ramonets has receded to reveal a beautifully spherical core of yellow and white fruits, jasmine and honeysuckle. An extraordinary bottle and one for the ages.

PR 1969 Extravaganza: Lemon, smoke, orange, laundry powder and oyster shells. Sweet fruit with lots of density but equal control - lots of acid keeping it in check. Clearly excellent but not a showstopper tonight.

Lemons and lemon peel. Linear and precise. Really fresh, clean nose and palate. Good persistence. I really like this but, again, its in a flight with 05 Leflaive Monty and 05 DRC Monty and its clearly the third of the three. I really liked this and would love to try it again on its own.

Some people thought this was slightly farther advanced than it should have been, and while it was not on the same level as the ‘05 DRC and Leflaive Montrachets in the flight, it was still pretty excellent with beautiful Ramonet mint mixed into the soft spice. Ripe yellow fruited palate with good richness. Probably a little more open knit than a perfect bottle.

Montrachet and Musigny: Distinctive mint with lemon, pine needles, orange peel and graphite, with licorice in the background - intoxicating nose that kept delivering with time in the glass, slowly revealing more each time I went back to it. The richness of the fruit on the palate combines well with an oily texture and good acidity. Intensely flavoured across the length of the wine. In a good spot to start drinking now, though plenty of time is left for good bottles. Truly great wine, amazingly though the lesser of the 3 vintages we tried tonight, probably suffering for the extra dimension and energy that the younger vintages showed.

La Paulée Chevalier Fête (Saison - San Francisco CA): First bottle was drinkable, but much more advanced vs previous bottles of this wine. Revisited an hour later and even more advanced. Well stored since release.

Slow oxed for 6 hours. Initially the wine is ripe and lush with low acidity. Stepping into the 8th hour. The acidity grows with the ramonet spearmint, tropical fruit, gentle oak and minerals. The wine suddenly turned into a very tight, highly acidic and backward white. Wow a phenomenal transformation. It is like drinking two different wine. It becomes a slender and precise montrachet towards the end. Ramonet Montrachet needs a lot a lot of time. Give this 8-10 more years. 96-97

This wine has some serious chew, it’s almost built like red wine. It has complex aromatics of ripe peach, aniseed, spearmint and flint. It has great intensity and density yet remains light on its feet. Length is very impressive and it is still a very youthful wine but delicious none the less.

From magnum served blind. Pleasant but rounder and less structured than the '04, this struck me as disappointing relative to what I'd expect from this producer and vineyard. But hey it's still Ramonet Montrachet, and it is delicious - just wouldn't pay the tariff myself for this particular vintage.

A 40th Birthday Celebration, Dinner Edition (Atlas Bistro - Scottsdale AZ): Magnum. Served single blind alongside the 2004. Opulent and extroverted with lush, sweet apple and enticing spice throughout. Superb concentration and the structural gravitas to retain excellent balance. Probably one slight notch above the wonderful 2004.

Great Wine Dinner with Friends (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Served single blind alongside the 2005 Batard, this was tougher to identify than I expected. I was able to identify this correctly based on its greater length and power on finish. Lots of yellow and green apple with lemon peel and lemon curd. Superb length. Open, decanted ~1 hour before serving. Great when poured, but really stunning when finished 3 hours later.

Burgundy dinner at Grace (Grace Chicago): Decanted and drank over 3 hours. A brilliant nose citrus, honey, some oak but no mint or herbal note which I was expecting. Powerful and rich in the mouth, but with a perfect elegance. Superb balance and I just loved the viscosity. Very long lingering finish.

Great Burgundy Dinner (Grace - Chicago IL): Served single blind in flight. This was everybody's favorite 2005 Montrachet tonight. i didn't really find the telltale Ramonet "minty" notes but did see the intense, honeyed character that comes across from their wine in the best vintages. Powerful and classically Montrachet in its length, density and understated elegance. Very fresh. My WOTN. Got better and better 3+ hours in glass, I think this isn't even in its peak drinking window yet.

At first it was a little cheesy and leesy but soon in booted the smoky minerals and pure white peach aromas and flavours. It was sweet of fruit and dense but beautifully countered by the mineral elements and a wine of great poise.

Sinfully young and clamped tight like a tortoise in a shell. The nose has a healthy display of prevalent oak on the nose which is further confirmed on the palate. Past this the mouth is saturated with a massiveness of sheer power and weight. Don't be as curiously ignorant as me and give this the 20 year nap it needs.

Oaky and flabby upon first pour. With several hours of air, shed the baby fat and started showing some of the minerality and elegance one would expect from Ramonet. However, the oak was too prominent and really begs for time to integrate. The '05 Leflaive Chevalier is showing much better than this today. I'd not recommend opening a bottle of this for a decade.
