Northern Rhone Night (Song Ling Building): This was absolutely lovely. The nose was almost like a stemmy Burgundy - think Leroy or Dujac - with drifts of Chinese herbs and wood spice wafting about sweet notes of black cherries and dark berries, earth and a fragrance of floral rose water. Beautiful. The palate was where it really shone though. Beautifully measured and balanced, perhaps more advanced than I thought a 2014 should be, but oh so soft and integrated, with velvety tannins and wonderfully judged acidity draped over beautifully pure, fleshy flavours of blackberries, sweet cherries and plums, all tumbling across mouth in a deliciously juicy mouthful. Lovely finish too - with blushes of spice and herbs and more roses unfolding beautifully on the back palate. An absolutely lovely wine, drinking very well even now.
Nose: From the get-go, this is firing as it envelops the glass with olive tapenade, crushed rocks, violets, black cherries, tobacco, fresh leather, brine notes, licorice, raspberries, and spice notes. This continues to open up with air and add in more layering to it all.
Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The tannins are a bit sneaky as they are there, but show themselves more on the end. The feel is so balanced and refined with olive tapenade, crushed rocks, violets, black cherries, raspberries, tobacco, fresh leather, and spice notes.
Overall: This is a thing of beauty. It is drinking quite well right now as the primary tones have melded together in beautiful harmony. There is still further for this to go, but that comes down to drinker preference. I am routinely happy with these wines and this certainly accomplished that in a big way. It just doesn’t get more Cote-Rotie than this.

Soirée à l'aveugle Belle pureté au nez, une syrah rhodanienne pour sûr, très fraiche (végétale), style nature, car elle claque, l'aromatique est nette et dansante : olive, aubergine, poivre, violette, mûre. En bouche, belle tension qui étire la trame, on perd en moelleux mais nul doute que le vin se détendra avec le temps, probablement lentement. L'acidité et la tension fondent cet espoir d'un vin plus complexe et plus fruité mais toujours frais. je crois de plus en plus que les vins natures, bien encavés au frais, sont faits pour durer. 92/93

Nez très changeant : fruits rouges frais (cerise, groseille), léger vinaigre de framboise par moment, pointe de végétal avec la groseille, et de magnifiques notes florales. C'est franchement superbe et à part une phase légèrement sur la réduction, d'une pureté sans faille. Belle matière en attaque, on ressent immédiatement un vin qui joue dans un registre léger et dynamique. Petit bémol sur le milieu de bouche qui finit par manquer de densité à mon goût avec des tanins moins soyeux (ça reste un Côte Rôtie 2014). Finale intense, fraîche et légère sur la complexité aromatique du nez.
Ouf, j'ai retrouvé tel quel ce que j'avais tant apprécié à Ampuis. J'aime beaucoup, avec un supplément de puissance et de matière on aurait été au top.

Sunday BBQ (Chicago, IL): I like the palate of this far more than the nose, which shows a bit of an unpleasant natty and mousy quality. The palate is much more clean, but seems to veer a little too far towards high acid, to the detriment of having a bigger body, so despite the pleasant sweet fruit elements here, there's quite a bit of acidity that feels unbalanced.

Bu à l'aveugle, on a clairement les caractéristiques de la syrah. Poivre, olives, un peu de tomates. C'est très jeune c'est frais. Ce n'est pas mon style et c'est très particulier mais pour quelqu'un qui aime ça peut être extraordinaire. Le nez est assez spécial. Sens presque le moisie

C'est sans équivoque un vin du Rhône septentrional , Olive noires , Poivre et violettes
Beauoup aimé le vin se boit a vitesse grand V seul petit bémol je ne suis pas convaincu de sa longévité car le lendemain le vin était plat et sans intérêt
Coteaux de Tupin : Les pentes atteignent 50% sur cette partie. Jean Michel est un puriste, pas de chimie, ni en viticulture, ni en vinification, donc zéro soufre
Cuvée 100% Sérine (variété de Syrah autochtone et non clonée) Rendement: 15 hl/ha. Vinification: macération carbonique, élevage 24 mois en fûts.
J'achète = non mais j'en boit volontiers

Voici mon offrande au groupe, bien qu'un peu jeune, le vin s'exprime déjà bien et est très typé (olives noires, poivres, etc) seul le coté viande n'est pas present. En général, j'ai bien aimé cependant le petit côté nature m'interesse moins.

Vin très spécial et nature... À l'aveugle ca me rappelait les vins de Chapoutier ; moisissure, armoire de bois, peu de tannins, olives noires et poivres. C'est un super beau vin, mais ce n'est mon style de syrah.
