By the glass courtesy of BA en route LHR > TKY. Freshly opened bottle. It’s a good effort and at least no confectionery or fake. Will beat any Prosecco for sure and will make a better Aperol Spritz than anything the Italians can through in the mix. 85

Pale lemon with a copper tinge. Med(+) aromas of slightly underripe green apple, lemon, bread, Valencia orange, Asian pear, a bit of honey and red plum or even red cherry (plus what people call “minerality”). Dry, agressive mousse, med(+) acid, medium body, medium plus finish. This is probably the first time I thought fruits are underripe for a sparkling wine. Primary aromas feel just a bit underripe and there’s phenolic bitterness. Intensity is there but finish isn’t that long. Moreover, acidity doesn't feel particularly very high so this looks to me that this is not a stylistic choice but the producer struggled to attain phenolic ripeness of the grape. Maybe I’m being a little too critical, but I’d rather pay extra $10 and get a bottle of champagne from a big maison personally. Though this isn’t particularly a good value compared to Champagne, I wouldn’t say this is a bad value either. Would be better with a bit of more time. 86+
Day 2: mouthfeel and balance improved. Things are more well integrated, so some decanting would have been helpful for this bubbly.

Straw gold in the glass. Fine bubbles and a quick mousse. Nose is lemon curd, fresh bread and yeast, bright acidity.. intense aromatics.. Palate. Lemon, stone fruit with a bracing acidity and a long finish. Smooth and fresh. Finish is reminiscent of orange juice. Upon opening its almost overwhelming in its aromatics and strength on the palate.. after leaving in the glass for an hour its smoothed out and integrated.. drink now with a decant. Or buy and lay down for a bit..

Retail $60. 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Meunier. While I have tried a few English sparklers, this is the first time (I believe) that I actually opened a bottle from the British Isles. I think. A friend brought this over a whopping four years ago and I have been waiting for the two of them to come back ever since (they will be here any day, right??). Light straw in the glass with a yeasty nose, even *quite* yeasty and the theme continues on the palate. The yeasty component is upfront and present, followed by some tart fruit, accompanied by a fervent sparkle. Excellent. 91 Points.
Lemon, lychee and brioche on the nose. Dry. Crisp acidety. Medium concentration. Small bubbles. Citrus, green apples and honey on the palate. Long citruc exit. Maybe a bit on the tart side of the spectre. Quite nice! 🍾🥂

Pale lemon colour. Small and lively bubbles. Medium (-) nose with green apples, lemon, biscuit and bread. Light taste of green apples, lemon, biscuit, bread and wet stone. Medium (+) long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good English Sparkling. Drink now or over the next eight years. Goes well as an aperitif, or with shellfish.

Using the four-letter word like “fine” to describe this brut is not enough. Add a five-letter word like “extra” to emphasize how good this English sparkling really is. Sourced from Sussex and Hampshire, this blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 25% Pinot Meunier will quickly pique your interest with its fresh fruity aromas. The tiny bubbles are a sight for something great in this sparkling. Apples, melons, and honey are just a few of the notes to excite your wine palate. The acids and fizz complement each other quite well and the dry finish is the crescendo you will crave to repeat. This GOLD 2017 Texsom winner will be a blast to have in your cellar. Well done and Cheers!

My second taste of a Digby. Keep reading positive stuff like most of the notes here but it was easily the least interesting in both flavor and texture of some 40 high end champers at a party last weekend and no way would it have passed in a blind tasting. And, by the way, a Le Cadeau from Oregon DID pass.

Champagne vs The World (Maple and Ash Chicago, Illinois): My second high-end English sparkler in a matter of weeks. I had heard of this Digby previously and was keen to sample it. A seriously good wine: we drank alongside a 2008 Veuve Brut and it compared very favorably. I thought maybe even a little more nuance: some fine earthy notes along with bright acidity.

PnP. Lovely mousse, light lemony. Excellent acidity and balance. Clearly "Old world" as lacking the rounder fruit qualities of North American sparklers. Just missing some of the creaminess of true Champagne, but a very nice drink.

My first English sparkling wine was a success. All my guests who were at my house watching Victoria really liked with with pizza and a salad. Crisp, bright solid fruit and a surprising and pleasing acidity. I will buy again.

Falls somewhere between good Champagne and a really good prosecco. Toasted brioche and sour apple. Bottle made empty very quickly!
