  • Monthly Tasting Group HWS; Condrieu (By AH): Beautiful bouquet with white fruits, litchi, honey and apricots. Same on the palate, some licorice, anise, full bodied, beautiful acidity, elegant, complex and mouth spreading. Beautiful wine.

  • All wine, no poker (Lincoln, Mass.): Served with puff-pastry tarts with goat cheese, rhubarb, honey and thyme: The first of three bottles purchased at auction. A complex mineral wine, with a flavor of cooked apricots, but with low acidity that makes the wine seem a little underpowered. Unctuous, with hints of petrol, and some nuttiness. I can't tell if this is a quiet adolescent or a well-behaved senior citizen, but I am inclined to guess that it is declining rather than maturing and that the remaining bottles should be consumed sooner rather than later.

  • Very much a 2015 and very much the style of this cuvée - spicy, rich with fine acidity, build to last, sound fruit and great harmony. Even better and actually more fresh and vibrant on day 2, promises well for this one.

  • There are bigger Condrieu, but to me this wine this wine is the absolute textbook example of a Condrieu. A gorgeous nose. On the palate, bright stone fruit and pear flavors with perfect acidity. The wine manages to be rich and weightless at the same time. Everything is in the right place. I don't even notice the high alcohol. This was served with a 2016 Vernay Chaillees de l'Enfer, which was terrific, but the Perret was even better. Tasted again the next night, it had not missed a beat. Phenomenal.

  • The nose provides Viognier’s youthful exuberance at its finest while managing to be supremely elegant with its apricot-driven fruits, some floral notes, moderate oak and slight smokiness. Immensely attractive and all class. On the palate wonderfully rich, just very opulent but still in no way over the top despite 15% ABV. An unbelievable combination of decadence and freshness. Some warmth and spiciness that fit in well. Probably would age like a champion but who cares when it offers such a pleasure right now.

  • Fermented and aged for 12 months in barriques (approximately 25% new). 15% alcohol.

Quite pale yellow-green color. Slightly restrained but also ridiculously complex and attractive nose with layered aromas of ripe quince, overripe apples, some exotic spice, a little bit of stony minerality, light buttery tones, sweet hints of pear, cantaloupe and canned pineapple and a floral touch of apple blossom. The alcohol shows a little bit through as well. The wine is rich, concentrated and quite oily on the palate with full body and intense, complex flavors of exotic spices, stony minerality, some ripe pear, a little bit of apple jam, light buttery tones, a hint of juicy grapey fruit and a touch of apricot. The wine feels lush and quite voluptuous, but at the same time remarkably high in acidity for its size, lending great sense of freshness to the wine. The rich and oily finish is slightly warm with the high alcohol. Long, complex and rather sweet-toned aftertaste of pear jam, some lifted minty herbal notes, a little bit of apple jam, light stony mineral tones, a hint of creaminess and a touch of apricot.

This is undeniably an outstanding Condrieu that doesn't try to hide what it is. The wine shows all the typical qualities of a Viognier: viscous, oily body, high alcohol and voluptuous apricot-driven fruit. However, the wine manages to combine remarkably high acidity with exceptional concentration of fruit into one, seamless whole, making it pull the magical stunt and come across as remarkably balanced for its size. Truly a seductive wine. Even the high alcohol doesn't bother much. Most likely can and will develop for years more, but is drinking beautifully right now. Easily among some of the greatest Viogniers I've tasted.

  • Pale yellow. Nose is mineral and somewhat floral with notes of peaches, apricots, nutmeg and violets. Mouthfeel is full bodied, mineral, elegant, spicy and very fresh, with moderate acidity and notes of apricots, peaches, violets and a touch of nutmeg. Perhaps not as flamboyant as Chéry, but with more spicyness, and just as elegant. Beautiful Condrieu a little off the general path, and a beautiful piece of wine!

  • Odd that I am first to rate this. Probably one of the best Condrieu producers and so by implication one of the best white wines. This man has deftness of touch creating something with depth, wonderful range. I’m not going to try and force fit a bunch of fruits to this. Just get a one!
