Less Celebrated France WIMPS #164 28th April 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): 70% Grenache & 30% Mourvèdre. A producer I have a soft spot for. Cool fruited, spicy, meaty with some lavender hints and just a little lift. Good persistence on the palate with a little aniseed and some bresaola. Powerful and deep. Might bring my mag of 2011 next year.

Less Celebrated France (WIMPS) (La Trompette, Chiswick, London): 70% Grenache (68 yo vines) and 30% Mouvedre (16 yo vines) aged in 600L demi muids for 16mos and certified organic. Strawberry fruit and quite airy on the nose. It's not quite tertiary yet and there is a lovely mouthfeel and length, elegant tannins and in fact it is still on the fruit. Lifted finish. No rush to drink these and worth seeking out. Probably my red WOTL (even though it was my bottle).

Not sure what happened to this since my last tasting. Was it an off bottle or has it deteriorated dramatically in the past three years? This bottle was quite evolved and seemed to be fading. Had a roasted quality to it that was not entirely pleasant. Hard to believe this could have changed so much in only three years. Not rated for that reason.

Possibly my favourite CdR and as said here, we all know the backstory.
Dark red, velvety mouthcoating tannins, good concentration, and nicely balanced. Not last word on complexity but very nice all the same. Enjoyed with a classic burger at 67 Pall Mall London.

This is CdR on steroids!! By any other name, a very, very good CH9dP but heck, it's a CdR. And yes, I do know the back story, that is why I buy it. The huge plumy aroma soars from the glass, the not TOO rich wine coats the palate and goes on and on. Not obtrusively tannic either. If you have some, then get stuck in. It has easily a decade of drinkability ahead of it. Not for the fainthearted, this IS one for Rhone lovers. The 2016 of this cuvee is reputed to be even better, that is truly scary.

Wonderful juicy red fruits, a massive dollop of sweetness that definitely points to southern Rhone. Balanced by a huge concentration that made it have less structure and depth than their CDP bottling, but it is fresher and effortlessly more elegant. Only thing I didn't like was that there was definitely some funk going on here and with air it became a little alcoholic and hot. Can go further but why wait?

The very best Cotes du Rhône I have ever tasted? I think so! Dark ruby, but translucent as well. Good viscosity. Gorgeous nose of dark cherry and black raspberry. Amazing in the mouth. Silky, suave mouthfeel but with a depth of fruit flavors that are so rich and fruit-filled it is hard to comprehend. This is a mere Cotes du Rhône? Amazing. 4-12-17-9: 92/100.

Lovely CDP look-alike. Barnyard funk blew off after an hour of being open. Plenty of red cherries and raspberries to go with Szechuan spices.
