A brief taste. Quite lean shy and reticent out of the gate. Citrus, green apple and wet rocks dominate the nose after popping the cork. Quite lean yet pure, focused on the palate.
30 mins later in bordeaux glass gains significant weight, displaying more depth and richness on the palate, adding a touch of fresh pastry, roundness and generous mousse, while still showing restraint and focus.
A very pure and elegant style of wine. Give it some time in the glass, let it warm up. Based on performance, it needs more bottle age. Open in advance.

Light golden camphor colored. The nose has classic apples and fresh fruit. Some nuts, mulberry, brioche, yeast, and sweet pastries. The palate has the taste of fruit soda, malt, sweet fruit, and apple core. The wine is rich and full-bodied with good length.

Missed the disgorgement date. Think it was 2022. Perpetual of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. No dose. Racy. Apple, mulled strawberry and a good dose of wet rock with some lemony acid. I liked it but this needs to be without a chill to open it up. A transparent and clean style. Enjoyed it.

Complex apple and floral aroma. Candied red apple and citrus flavors with a red berry finish. Some oxidation character throughout - notes of banana? The barrel influence is apparent. Nice texture and weight. Unique character.
I can’t help but wonder if a touch of dosage would help tie everything up in a neat little package. Regardless, this is a “buy” for me.

pours gold with a thick mousse. settles to a very vinous glass with reticent fine bead. nose shows a lot of rubber up front which blows off and gives red apple and cranberry. unique in that there is really no yeasty component. palate is light with a fine, fuzzy feel and good high toned acidity reflecting the zero dosage. very tense. more red delicious apple flavor, kumquat, and strong mineral. very clean, very mineral finish. a good example of the brute zero style.

Pale yellow with pink at the rim, delicious, rounded, pure fruit, not overly dry, moderate effervescence, primarily pinot noir (90%). Knew I had this for at least 5 years, and Cellartracker confirmed that I purchased this bottle in December 2017. Disgorged in 2015, a blend of 2009-10-11-12. Stored in non-temperature controlled Brooklyn apartment for over 5 years, a fine example of a mature grower champagne, from a talented wine maker.

Despite the obvious lack of dosage this is really very nice. The first glass seemed a bit austere but as it got some air and warmed up it just got better and better. Intense nose apples and stones and something spicy. Green apple and lemons on the palate and some ginger notes that I doubt I would have picked out if I hadn’t seen another TN mentioning but now I can’t untaste it. D/g 2018

11/18 disgorgement. Sherry notes add complexity with a line of lemony acid to add freshness. Maybe a touch less depth than the blanc de noirs. Very nice, lacking just a touch of elegance.

Excellent showing tonight. My first time to taste this producer. It’s medium gold in the glass with quite a lot of orchard fruit. Tending toward a slightly more oxidative profile, this was impressive to me. Excellent ripeness obviates the need for dosage in this case. Cool wine and ready to drink now.

Drank over two days. I’ve been socking away Lahaye bottles for a few years but this is the first one I’ve had. Terrific right out of the gate and maybe even better on day 2. Layers of crisp acidity, baking spice, apple, lemon zest. Not the most complex but extremely well balanced. Drinking superbly well at the moment. Disgorged 11/19.

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over a couple hours -- -- 90% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay -- -- Nov. 2020 disgorgement --
NOSE: light; crisp; apple; petrichor. Clean and "fresh".
BODY: polished brass color with faint auburn hue; bead is quite active; light bodied.
TASTE: dry, but still fruity; liking drinking flavorful air --- the mouthfeel is amazingly light and airy; *not* rich, heavy, yeasty, bready, or oxidative; green pear, and a cool little hit of mid-palate cinnamon. This no dosage wine appears to be gradually fleshing-out with bottle age, as compared to a couple bottles we had about one year ago. Excellent, provided one likes the relatively austere, no dosage, grower style, which I do.

2015 base, 2018 disgorgement. Was glad of the extra ageing, which gave the richness and savour of a sherry whilst the wine retained the slightly nervy energy of a Brut Nature. Super tasty, and masterfully on the cusp of sweet/sour, but lacked stature on the midpalate, so ultimately only a good wine, not a great one.

Disgorgement 12/20. The wine has aged beautifully to a smooth and soft cloud of delicious Bouzy terroir. So light, just dancing on the palate, yet so tasteful and refreshing. So ripe almost sweet but never over the top, impeccable balance, masterful focus, clean and pure and full of life and energy. Amazing as always. Biodynamic, handmade, almost no sulfur, very rare and truly fantastic Champagne. Benoit Lahaye is truly a master winemaker.

No disgorgement date listed, but I bought this bottle in October 2013, so it's not a spring chicken.
medium gold color, with quite an energetic bead. On the nose, the fruit aromas are of bruised apple and pear, perhaps revealing the time in bottle. But there's also something more tropical—guava, maybe, or perhaps a whiff of pineapple? Then there is some almond and cinnamon/nutmeg baking spice. With some air, the bouquet is actually quite luscious and sweet, which is interesting for a Champagne with no dosage that I expect to be bone dry and very acidic.
On the palate, it is indeed a bit of a different story, with the fruit shifting to a more citrus profile of lemon and lime and maybe even a bit of grapefruit. But there's still some of the pineapple richness too, as well as some nuttiness—though less of the spice. It does also have an element of greenness, with a stemmy or leafy note adding a sort of earthy side to the finish. But it doesn't come off as being underripe or punishing. And in fact, the acid doesn't really jump out at me any more than with a regular Brut. The lack of dosage just changes it into a more athletic, angular wine. But it's still well balanced, and was clearly expertly made with excellent fruit.
I probably waited too long to open this, but it's still drinking very well. I wouldn't say it's truly worth the high price, but Champagne is what it is, so you either pay or you don't drink any.

NOSE: red apple; medium-light intensity; not a whole lot going on.
BODY: very light salmon color; light bodied.
TASTE: incredibly dry; light red berries mixed with apple; no dosage, and it shows --- very austere, even a bit much for me, although I do nonetheless like it. Ash likes it, too, and would pay about what I did for it. Hoping to see some development with age.

Pale lemon colour. Medium nose with yellow apples, lemon, toast, bread, biscuit and wet stone with hints of leather. Medium taste of yellow apples, lemon, toast, bread, biscuit, walnuts and wet stone. Small and lively bubbles. High acidity. Medium body. A very good Brut Nature that still has some body. Needed 15 min in the glass to open. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well as an aperitif, or with fish or shellfish.

Disgorged in April 2019, which I think means that the base wines are from 16 and 17. This was absolutely top quality wine over two nights. Spicy gingery ripe yellow plum and red currant fruit on night 1, a fine bead and silky texture, and a saline chalky finish. Night two is more harmonious, and the chalk and salt permeate everything in the wine. This isn't one of those super-intense champagnes, it's a suave and gentle expression, but with great density of flavor and aroma. Consistently one of the best Brut Nature blanc de noirs wines that I know.

A really nice "basic" Champagne from a well-regarded grower-producer. Impressive for an entry bottling made of mostly Grand Cru Pinot. I am impressed by its depth, which is almost certainly a result of the inclusion of a decent amount of reserve wine. There is a nuttiness, yeastiness, a chewiness, and for lack of a better word, a darkness, that I don't usually associate with young NV Champagnes, and especially Brut Natures. It's an interesting question whether this bottling is what it should be; the NV Brut Nature label would lead one to expect a bright, light, acidic bubbly that is bursting with energy. I got something a bit more reserved (pun intended), thoughtful, rich. I enjoy this style more, actually, so I'm not complaining. Not cheap at $60, but worth it.

Disgorged July 2019. Great salinity, medium density/vinousness, a core of salty stones, chalk, and tart/unripe/green berries, in a good way. Super-versatile Champer, one I could imagine serving with bigger dishes. (N.b.: The acidity's fantastic, but it's unlikely I'd call this for Brut Nature.)

New disgorgement 12/20. Right after opening the wine was dull and almost with no esprit. Which changed after some time in the glass. Second half of the bottle was literally fantastic - lively, smooth, impeccably balanced, long, juicy and so delicious! Great!

This wine is fantastic. Great cut and definition, yet the depth and complexity is outstanding. Aromas of red currant, lemon peel, white cherry, seashell, chalk, and hazelnut greet your nose. The plate is linear but supple, with a great layered texture. Insane balance for zero dosage, it’s not bracing & the fruit feels plump. This is just excellent. A blend of ‘15 ‘16 & ‘17. 80% Pinot Noir from Bouzy and 20% Chardonnay from Ambonnay aged 30 months on the lees with no filtration or sulfur. Disgorged 4/20 so I gave it a ton of air and drank from wide glasses. Lahaye is one of our favorites.

Served blind, and of note next to the 2013 Vilmart GCdO. I offer that comparison only to tell the story about the color. Disgorged April 2019 (same as bottle last month). The Benoit Lahaye is darker in the glass, and has lightly oxidative note in the aroma too, as compared to the Vilmart. Citrusy style, and the snappy cherry impression is very consistent with the bottle we had a few weeks ago (non-blind). Bright, steely yet expressive and done very well in a non-dose style, too. The lack of dosage fooled the table to an extent as I don't think they were expecting a Nature style given the way the wine showed. Finishes with some pink grapefruit. Terrific.

The Grand Cru Champagne Brut Nature by Benoit Lahaye is blended from 3 harvests with 40% reserve wine, mostly Pinot Noir (90%) and a small percentage of Chardonnay (10%), exclusively from Grand Cru Bouzy and Ambonnay. No dosage during degorgement.
Bright pale golden color. Expressive red apple, apricot, chalky, some nuttiness and caramel. Sharp acidity, creamy bubbles, fine and focused palate. A harmony between its fresh, minerally, fruity and aged characters. Utterly delicious.

90% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay. 80% of the grapes come from Bouzy, and 20% from Ambonnay. This Brut Nature always includes a high percentage of reserve wines (sometimes as much as 50 percent). Aged 10months in 205L oak barrel and then for an average of 30 months on the lees. No SO2 added, unfiltered.
It tastes with hint of mature oxidative and nutty notes with plenty of ripe red dates, juicy ripe apple, pastry flavours. Minerally, toasty, lively and vibrant. It is the immense focus and lingering finish that draw your attention.

Opened this yesterday. This is my first experience with Benoit Lahaye, too. I own the Rose Maceration but have yet to open any of those but decided last night to get something perhaps more crisp and focused in my glass. This hits the spot. 90% Pinot, 10% Chard, I believe most of the fruit coming from Bouzy, plus Ambonnay. Also, there is no dosage, no sulfur, farmed biodynamic, too. Disgorged April 2019, don't have any idea of the vintages/base of the wine. This is stern when cold but it expands and fills in really well as it warms up. Lemon rind and salinity at the cooler temp, then some apple, plus a good dollop of cherry appears with the warmer temp. The salinity sticks around throughout the temperatures, giving the wine a refreshing finish. This is a cool wine, as if the cherry and saline is being pulled through the palate and into the finish, washed over some wet stone. Look, I know some people think these wines are trendy to be low dosage. So what. What about those of us who like this style, who find the energy to be a pleasure in the glass, the energy that comes through many of these wines. This is delicious, but please allow the wine to warm and just with the lightest off chill, enjoy it as I did.

Disgorgement 1/20. The quality standards of Benoit Lahaye are steady as a rock. Purity and restrained power are trademarks of his wines. Salty on the nose, wet stones, beautiful yeasty freshness. To pair some meat dishes we need a much dryer Champagne, choose this one, no dosage, disgorged 05/2018, 90% PN, 10% Chard, way to young right after pnp, ultrafresh and biting acidic, needs a bigger glass and slow ox, after two+ hours more balanced, still zesty, green apples, yellow fruit like mango, very savoury, lightbodied and convincing ultraclean, great mineralic long finish, clarity rules this bottle, with a decent decant and food great from now on, but more balance in 5(+) years, **(*-****), 91,92(+) potential

Disgorged 3/18. Reserve perpetuelle. The quality level of this wine is pretty constant. The differences begin with the bottle age after disgorging. This one is still very youthful, laser blade acidity and austere fruit, this is quite strict yet very refreshing and really tasty. Baked almond biscuits and apples, apple skin, fresh dough, beautiful clean yeast, feels very natural with no funk at all. Purity is a trademark of Benoit and this is no exception. Fantastic natural Champagne, handmade, very authentic. Love it!

A blend of Pinot Noir (90%) and Chardonnay (10%). Served blind.
Medium-deep lemon yellow color. Ripe, nuanced and rather dark-toned nose with aromas of sweet red apples, yeasty Franch bread, some brooding Pinosity, a little bit of toasty smoke and a subtle hint of creaminess. The wine is dry, very mineral-driven and somewhat neutral - even a bit austere - on the palate with flavors of steely minerality, crisp green apple, some MLF yoghurt notes, a little bit of wet stone and a hint of chalky bitterness. The mousse is rich, soft and moutfilling with very persistent bubbles. The finish is lively and sharp but quite neutral with lengthy flavors of autolytic crème à la vanille, piercing steely minerality, some chalky bitterness and a hint of yeasty leesiness.
A very mineral and restrained expression of Grand Cru Champagne. It is quite hard to see at this point whether the wine is just too painfully young, or if its style is just excessively neutral - even austere. The wine shows great focus and purity, that's for sure, but it really doesn't do anything to stand above the crowd: the rather one-dimensional, powerful minerality dominates but ultimately gives the wine very little depth or character. I want to believe that this wine is still just a baby and will open up into something more impressive after some years in a cellar, because now it fails to leave a lasting impression.

So generous and still delicate! Revisiting after 9 months I tasted it right after disgorgement on October 2016. The wine has definitely settled a bit, but not getting any softer - still very youthful, radiant, refreshing. Bone dry. Beautiful saline and rocky nose, broad and clean on the palate with apples and citrus bitter, light spice (ginger). Very creamy mousse, long finish. This is going to be a great one.

New disgorgement - October 2016, so this wine is still a little bit primal, but beside the young kicking energy everything else is as good as it gets. Light old pink to brownish colour. Beautiful gentle mousse. Incredibly juicy and ripe, lifted acidity, long, structured, balanced, round. Apple pie / baked apples, cooked corn aroma, sweet spices. This will definitely benefit from some aging, but even now this is very drinkable and great with food.

I grow more and more in love with wines from Benoit Lahaye. Especially his Brut Nature is so rich, juicy and long, that the wine appears almost sweet on the palate. Lot 33110213--last year's release. Leaner; dill, stainless steel, plain yogurt on nose; biting and incisive. Palate feels somehow monastic and ungenerous. A little raw egg and apple cider-y, Windex-y (ammonia) and geranium/pyrazine. I suspect this bottle's provenance may be the issue here. With air it just became far worse. Such a disappointment as previous bottles have been fantastic.

An advertisement for Champagne without dosage. The fruit ripe enough so that this comes across as a complete wine, and not as a !NONDOSAGE! Champagne. The fruit is ripe and nuanced in its expression, the texture is ample, there is great acidity and focus, and the wine feels perfectly balanced. On day two the flavors take on a lovely gingerly note. Excellent stuff.

Very developed, all secondary and toasty autolytic flavors with virtually no fruit. Utterly seamless. When approached afresh the nose is exquisite - matsutake and cultured butter. A fine, well-made Champagne for the style, but it doesn't excite me; perhaps a touch of fruit would help. I wonder if I'd have rationalized this differently if the label on the bottle said Selosse.

Little bit more fruity and some strawberry scents compared to the Larmandier-Bernier. Biodynamic Champagne does seem to make sense. Also low dosage avoids any sweetness, but there is enough sweetness from the fruit flavours. Much more easy to drink than Larmandier and probably more of an everybody´s darling Champagne closer to the taste of a Rose due to high percentage of red grapes. It is just a matter of taste, as both Champagnes are on the same, very high level and I prefer them to more famous bottlings.

Benoit Lahaye is truly a master winemaker.

medium gold color, with quite an energetic bead.
