Not sure if this one was flawed but it wasn't at all a pleasurable wine. Very tart and somewhat smoky, with a short, clipped finish. If it wasn't flawed then there's some serious bottle variation with this wine.

Last bottle. Barnyard in the nose, floral undertone. Reminds me of a burgundy but more blue fruit. Drying mouth feel. Finish is sweet but a little short.
This wine is really a sleeper and just entering the drinking window. Compared to 2016 this has more concentration and more balance.

From young vines above Chaillot, this is a somewhat old school expression of Cornas. Very open with huge olive notes, medium acidity and good fruit. Meant to be drunk young and as expected, this doesn’t improve much on day 2 (though it certainly isn’t worse). A fun wine.

Really a strikingly interesting young Cornas. Very fresh for the vintage with blueberry fruit and a metric ton of pulverized granite. Really captivating and with plenty of structure but softer tannins than I typically find in the Gilles Chaillots. One to keep an eye on for future vintages.

Popped and poured but let sit in the glass for 30 minutes. So young, but so good. Oh how I pledge my love for Cornas! Smoked meats, sous bois, Worcestershire, bacon fat, roasted fennel. Nuff said. 94pts.

Quite pleased to own a few of these. It's obviously young, but there's a lot of nice syrah elements here. It's got a good amount of black fruit and richness from the vintage, but there's enough acidity here to carry the day. A slight touch of rusticity here as well.

Another new Northern Rhone producer for me, and again opening a young bottle to test taste. Decanted and poured so not much time for air. On the nose, this has a lot of dark fruit with a deep almost purple hue. Compared to the Levet Amethyste we tried the prior night, somewhat less sauvage and rustic but still very nice. Black raspberry, minerals and a slight pepperiness here on the palate - tannins are still young and tight but the structure for aging is all there. More to stock up on and try again in 10 years.

Masterpiece. This is a new wine I believe from young vines at high altitude. There's just so much in this package, from vivid stony and wild stemmy scents to roasting, searing, bloody meat and palate-staining fruit. Unreal freshness and balance, with suave tannins and rocky granite minerality on the finish. This really is the complete package and is a delight to drink with the baby fat still hanging around. Guillaume Gilles is the real deal.
