This is a single vineyard dry German Riesling Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) from the Nahe wine region. Beautiful medium golden color with some soft greenish notes towards the rim. Fantastic expressive nose with lots of citrus notes. On the palate ripe citrus, gooseberries, young peach, lots of green herbs and an elegant cold saltiness. Medium (+) bodied with a high acidity. Great fruit depth and an amazing overall complexity. It feels a little wild, a little stubborn in the moment. Overall balance is very good but will get even better with more time. The finish is long and savory with lots of sexy mineral notes. Already drinking beautifully although it will definitely profit from 2-3 years more in the cellar. Drink from now until 2030. (IG)

This has so much stuffing, but ouch, it’s painfully young. Knife-edge acidity and laser-like precision, a truckload of minerals, wreathed in flowers and well delineated fruit. Good length, but it needs a year or five to round out the edges. 92+

Nahe night at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): #10-17, 12% abv. Tasted next to the Halenberg, which I preferred to this. This is the racier of the two, showing a little more of a herbal quality, as well as a touch of green on the fruit on the palate. The acidity is more exposed too because the fruit doesn't have has much girth here. Nonetheless a very compelling bottle of GG that obviously needs much more time to come into its own. I would not be upset owning this over the Halenberg, even if I did prefer the Halenberg more.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): Emrich-Schönleber and Keller make the best GGs to my taste. This bottle exemplifies that. It's got a beautiful herbal tone on the nose, as well as some peachy fruity elements as well. The palate is rounded with good breadth and just the right amount of ripeness to carry the acidity and minerality. Great stuff that will only get better as it ages.

Tasted 2014 Eva Fricke Schlossberg, Grosset Hill 2018 and 2016 Schönleber Fruhlingsplätzchen GG next to one another. Sweet spicey citrusy notes, hints of petrol, gooseberry, peach. Intense and open nose. Dry withouth sweetness and rather tight. Undeveloped but very well balanced with a good finish. Should improve effortlessly.

93 poeng. For nå.

Tour VDP.GROSSE LAGE 2018 Vol.1 (Hotel Atlantic, Hamburg): This time a more herbal showing, compared with a lot of other young samples this one is quiet open, tasty fruit, would wait some 3+ years, but this a very good straight forward showing, ending tasty long, **(**), 91+potential

The German Crush Tour; 10/8/2017-10/16/2017: Elegant, lithe wine, seduces with its layers of mineral and stone fruit. More white peach than yellow. Long finish. Should age magnificently.

Große Gewächse 2016 Tasting (Winery Heilbronn): The 2016 Frühlingsplätzchen comes around in a wilder, more herbal robe than I could remember any other Frühlingsplätzchen I've tasted at this early stage. Ripe fruit is also there but covered in floral/mineral notes. The acidity is totally on point. High, vibrant, wonderful harmonious. Good power and compared to the Schäfer-Fröhlichs with more flesh to the bone. I'm very impressed by this showing and would say that this could become a real showstopper with more age. 93-95

As to be expected, more depth and concentration compared to 2016 Frühtau. Floral, herbal on the nose, good ripeness of fruit, minerality. On the palate very harmonic - fruit, acidity, minerality in near perfect balance. Very long. Excellent. 94-95+

Popped, poured, consumed over next 90 minutes. Well integrated, lots going on, reasonably fleshy, balanced with nice acids, lovely, lingering finish.

Meiningers Finest 100: International Wine Summit (Saalbau, Neustadt an der Weinstraße): A bit more withdrawn on the nose than the bottle I’ve tasted in September. The thing which stands out here is this incredible freshness paired with a elegant drive on the palate. The acidity is high but totally integrated into the wine. Wonderful showing.
